Chapter 576 Extra
Chen Guilan never dreamed that she would live the life she has today.
They live in a big villa with spacious rooms upstairs and downstairs, as well as two large yards in front and back. They grow flowers and fish in the front yard, and grow vegetables and melons in the back yard.
Every time she woke up, she suspected that she was dreaming. She lived on the third floor. Lu Jingyou said that climbing stairs every day was very tiring, so he took the initiative to install an indoor elevator for her to make it easier for her to go up and down the stairs.
The aunts and nannies at home all said that she was lucky, her daughter and son-in-law were filial, her grandchildren were well-behaved, and she had no worries about food and clothing and lived a carefree life.
Only Chen Guilan knew how difficult it had been for her and her daughter to get to where they were today. She did not feel complacent about the good life she had today. Instead, she was as frugal as before and was still reluctant to spend money.
My daughter and son-in-law’s money didn’t come from a sudden burst of wind. They need to live a steady life.
Chen Guilan never shies away from her background and divorce, and often talks about village affairs with her aunt.
In the middle of the night, she often dreamed that she returned to Wutong Village and to that small farmyard. Although she dreamed about it, she didn't want to go back.
The two aunts were both in their forties and fifties. They both had experience living in the countryside, and since they were about the same age as Chen Guilan, the three of them had a lot in common. They often chatted while doing housework, and could chat for the whole day.
Since Lu Chengyi was weaned, Su Jiaojiao was rarely at home during the day. Once she went out, she would be away for the whole day. Lu Chengyi grew up day by day, and Song Na could take care of him alone. When she was free, Song Na would also join their chat group.
Song Na is the youngest among them and is also the most hardworking. When Lu Chengyi falls asleep, she quickly washes clothes and puts away toys, and sometimes helps with cleaning.
The two aunts were both from the suburbs of Beijing. Su Jiaojiao had specially picked them from the workshop. When they heard that they would be working at the boss's house to cook and clean, and that the salary was higher than in the workshop, and that they would also have the same benefits as in the factory, they were both very happy.
One of them, Aunt Li, used to own a restaurant, and Su Jiaojiao was very satisfied when she heard about it. The other one, Aunt Wang, was chosen because she was Aunt Li's neighbor and they could take care of each other if there was anything at home.
As soon as the two arrived, they automatically divided the work. Aunt Li was the chef, and Aunt Wang was a part-time cleaner. Cleaning the upstairs and downstairs was a big project.
Chen Guilan was a person who couldn't sit still. After so many years, she had experience in dealing with strangers and quickly became familiar with them.
They asked each other about their ages. Chen Guilan was four or five years older than Aunt Li and Aunt Wang. The two aunts called her Sister Chen, and Chen Guilan called them Xiao Li, Xiao Wang, and Xiao Song.
Chen Guilan was not a mean person. She understood that they had to take care of their families while working, so she let them take turns taking leave to go home and visit their elderly and children.
The three were very grateful and said they had found a good employer, and their home was often filled with laughter.
When Lu Chengyi was three and a half years old, he went to kindergarten. The kindergarten was located in the community, only a five-minute walk away.
Chen Guilan feels as sweet as honey when she picks up and drops off her grandson from school every day.
When Su Jiaojiao was young, there was no kindergarten in the village, so she went directly to elementary school. She carried her own schoolbag to school and she was never picked up or dropped off.
Now that she has become a grandmother, whenever she walks to and from school holding her grandson's hand, she will think of Su Jiaojiao's childhood schooling. The more she thinks about it, the more she feels she has failed in her duty. Even when it was windy or rainy, she never went to pick up her daughter. Su Jiaojiao always ran back with her schoolbag on her head.
During their casual chat, Chen Guilan couldn't help but bring up these things with Su Jiaojiao: "You said I was confused at that time, and I didn't even bother to pick you up when it rained. Do you still remember these things?"
"Mom, I forgot about it a long time ago. Don't think too much about it." Su Jiaojiao said with a smile, "Back then you still had to work in the fields and were busy at home. How could you have been so thoughtful? All the children in the village grew up like this. Don't think too much about it."
When she was little, her family didn't even have an umbrella.
When it rained, she would run out wearing a fertilizer bag. Even when Chen Guilan went to pick her up, she would hold a fertilizer bag.
At that time, if it rained after school, they would run home in the rain with no one to pick them up.
"That's what I said, but I always feel like I've treated you unfairly." Chen Guilan still felt bad. Su Jiaojiao laughed again, "Mom, it's the same now that you pick up Chengyi. I wouldn't feel at ease without you in this family!"
"You just know how to make me happy." Chen Guilan also laughed, "As long as I can help you, I'll do anything."
"I need my mother's help all my life." Su Jiaojiao snuggled up to Chen Guilan like a spoiled child. "Without my mother's help, I can't do anything."
"Okay, let's not talk about this anymore." Chen Guilan patted Su Jiaojiao's shoulder. "Ever since Chengyi started kindergarten, Xiao Song felt like she had nothing to do, so she said she wanted to go home and rest for a few days. But I know she's embarrassed to stay here any longer. I heard she's been looking for a job recently."
"How could she think that?" Su Jiaojiao heard this and said hurriedly, "I didn't say that I didn't need her. She will be needed to take care of the children during weekends, summer vacations, and winter vacations. It's my fault for not telling her this in advance."
"Don't talk about you. I just found out too." Chen Guilan thought for a moment and then said to Su Jiaojiao, "Call her quickly and ask her to come back so she doesn't have to look for a job everywhere."
"Okay, I'll call her right away." Su Jiaojiao immediately called Song Na and asked her when she would be back to work. "Come back soon. My mom and the others miss you. Cheng Yi misses you too. You can go with my mom to pick him up from now on."
"Then I'll go back tomorrow." Song Na agreed readily.
"Now that Chengyi is in kindergarten and doesn't cling to you anymore, isn't it time for you to consider having a second child?" Chen Guilan has been talking to Su Jiaojiao about this lately. "You've always wanted a daughter, haven't you? Have one while you're still young, don't wait until you're thirty."
"Let's talk about it when I'm not busy." Su Jiaojiao wanted a daughter, but when she thought about the hardships of pregnancy and childbirth, she felt a little worried.
"I see you're always busy." Chen Guilan, who knew the clothing industry well, continued to persuade her, "If you've decided not to have the baby, then don't. I'm just worried about you. It'll be even harder to get pregnant when you're older."
"Mom, I'm only 28 years old now, not yet 30!" Su Jiaojiao wanted it, but it was not something that could be achieved just by wishing for it.
"Having a son or a daughter is inherently unpredictable. Even if it's a boy, we'll be happy." Chen Guilan knew her daughter's thoughts. "While I'm still young, I can still help you raise the child. If you delay for a few more years, I won't be able to do anything."
"Okay, I'll discuss it with Lu Jingyou." Su Jiaojiao had an idea.
