Chapter 40 Promotion and Wealth
Ji Yuanping curled up on the ground in pain, his arms tightly protecting his bleeding head.
The forehead that was hit by the heel was bleeding all over the floor, and the spurting blood splashed onto the wall, but Rebecca showed no sign of stopping.
The warden saw that if the situation continued, someone would die, so he had to muster up his courage and grab Rebecca.
"Madam, madam, if you keep fighting, someone will die. Please, for my sake, calm down. Haha, calm down."
The warden persuaded Rebecca while taking the high heels from Rebecca's hand and hiding them behind his back.
After the long journey from Repulse Bay to the prison, Rebecca was tired.
After beating up Amei and Ji Yuanping, her anger subsided a little, and she was helped up by the bodyguard to sit on a single sofa nearby.
"Sorry, I was a little excited just now. Let's sit down and talk."
Rebecca didn't look like a lady at this moment. The hem of her velvet skirt was torn in several places during the fight, revealing the black crinoline. The lace collar was mostly torn open by Amei, and the jewel necklace around her neck flew away. The pearly white silk cuffs were stained with blood.
He crossed his legs, not caring about his image at all, and sat barefoot on the sofa, looking at the two people howling with cold eyes.
"They're all lying on the ground in a mess. Quickly drag them to the east corner."
The warden took the opportunity to ask the prison guards to carry Amei and Ji Yuanping away so that Rebecca would not be upset. If someone really died, they would just walk away and he would be the one who suffered the consequences.
The bodyguard picked up the bag on the ground. Rebecca took out a tissue from it to wipe the sweat off her face. She remembered that when Ah Mei came in, she was dressed neatly and cleanly. It seemed that she was living a comfortable life in prison.
He asked the warden dissatisfiedly, "Sir, look at this lady's appearance. Is this prison a hotel? Does she look like a prisoner?"
As she spoke, Rebecca became angry again. Is Amei here to go to jail? Who goes to jail with braids?
"Yes, yes, madam, you have a keen eye. I'm just asking what's going on down there."
The warden thought that there was something wrong with the way A-Mei came in. How could there be a prisoner with braids, a rosy complexion and white hands? He called the prison guard who was in charge of A-Mei to ask what was going on.
The prison guard stood there hesitantly and explained the matter of the correctional officer's corruption and bribery.
"Her mother gave money to the administrator of our District 2, so the management of District 2 is usually a little lax."
This kind of thing is very common. It is tacitly accepted that family members give some money to the prison guards to ask for favors.
Amei's mother spent almost all the money she got from Uncle Gui during the divorce on taking care of Amei. Since she was given more money, she naturally took more care of Amei's daily life.
"What kind of logic is that? You can just spend money to get away with it! How much money did she give you? I'll give it to you too! Keep them locked up until they die!"
Rebecca's anger, which had just subsided, was ignited again. She picked up the high heels on the ground and threw them at the prison guard who was in charge of Amei.
The prison guard didn't dare to say anything even after being hit. He was indeed in the wrong.
Rebecca knew the British Hong Kong government was combating corruption, but she hadn't imagined it had reached such a level that murderers could spend a small fortune and use the prison as a hotel. So what was Elizabeth doing on the throne? Was there any justice?
"Madam, this was a case of negligence on our part. Don't worry, I will personally supervise and manage these two people from now on and ensure they are reformed."
The warden was so anxious that sweat was pouring down his forehead. He didn't even know how to count the bribes his subordinates were accepting. Look at that woman, she doesn't look like a prisoner at all.
Rebecca knew that government corruption was beyond her control, so she put pressure on the warden and was happy enough to ensure that these two people were actually punished.
"Sir, it's not that I'm unreasonable. These two have gone too far. I know you're having a hard time. I just want them to receive the punishment they deserve. Is this not a problem for the warden?"
"Yes, it should be. Madam is right. This time it was our fault for failing to supervise properly."
The warden admitted his mistake in a good manner, and Rebecca didn't mind giving him some sweet treats. Only when he had hope would he work hard.
"I think you're a capable man, but being a prison warden is a waste of your talent. I'll talk to Mali when I get back and see if there's any suitable position for you in the Hong Kong government."
When the warden heard that Rebecca was going to introduce him to Governor MacLean, his eyes lit up with joy and the corners of his mouth were almost grinning to his ears.
He never expected that his chance to get promoted and make a fortune would come so soon. He quickly stood up and assured Rebecca, "Thank you very much, Madam, for your kindness. Madam, please rest assured that I will supervise the transformation of these two people and make sure they are properly reformed."
Rebecca gave him a look that said "you'd better be smart", waved her hand to let the prison guard take the two men back, and then handed the warden a check for 100 million Hong Kong dollars.
It was the first time in his life that the warden had seen so much money. He wanted it but didn't dare to take it. Normally he would accept ten or twenty thousand yuan, but this time it was 100 million yuan. He hadn't lived enough and didn't want to be shot.
Heartbroken, he pushed it back to Rebecca, saying insincerely, "Madam, what are you doing? How can I take your money? It's really embarrassing for me."
"Sir, you can't say that. This money is my personal donation to the prison. Repair the walls, improve the food, etc. You can arrange it. Everything is for the development of Hong Kong."
Rebecca said that the money was a free donation, so the warden had a reason to accept the money openly, and he would have the final say on how much money would go into his pocket.
"Haha, yes, ma'am, you are so kind-hearted. We are all working for the development of Hong Kong. I won't be polite then."
The days that followed were very hard for Ah Mei. Before, her mother had taken care of everything for her, but after she was imprisoned, her life was no different from that in the outside world except that she had no freedom.
But since being supervised by the warden himself, he no longer lived in a single room, but was transferred to an ordinary 6-person room. He had endless work to do every day, didn't have enough food to eat, and his clothes got rotten. When he returned to the room, the big sister would set rules for him. No one treated the injuries from Rebecca, leaving him with many scars.
In just a few months, her skin was no longer smooth and fair, her hair became dry and frizzy, and she looked much older, just like Ji Yuanping. Soon, she really went crazy.
Ji Yuanping is fine. He has been living this kind of life since he was imprisoned. Now there are just more people watching him, and he has to continue to endure the long years to atone for his sins.
Ye Lin was sitting in the living room, anxiously waiting for Rebecca to come home, waiting for the moment he saw Rebecca enter the living room.
Ye Lin swore that in his memory and the eighteen years they had spent together, he had never seen Aunt Rebecca in such a miserable state.
The golden hair that had been styled in the morning was now scattered in a mess on her shoulders. One of her earrings was missing, and the jewel necklace around her neck was nowhere to be found. Half of the tulle outside her dark blue dress was torn off and was dragging on the ground. The dress was full of wrinkles and dust, and there were a lot of bloodstains on the cuffs. She was shoeless, and her delicate feet were covered in dirt.
Standing by the glass door, holding onto the door frame, the beautiful woman looked at him quietly with a pair of bloodshot eyes filled with tears.
"Zia, what's wrong with you? Xiaoyue, go get a pair of slippers."
"Oh, okay." Xiaoyue put down the rag and ran quickly to the shoe and hat room to look for slippers.
Ye Lin went forward to check on Aunt Rebecca's condition, but before he could squat down, he was dragged into Aunt Rebecca's arms.
Tears as big as beans rushed out from her bloodshot eyes. "Wuuuuu, Mistaifacendoarrabbiare, ragazzo! Ziaeraspaventataamortedate (You are going to piss me off to death! Your aunt is almost scared to death.)"
Rebecca cried and hugged Ye Lin tightly, sobbing inconsolably. She almost lost this child.
"Zia, it's all over. I'm fine." Ye Lin patted Rebecca's back, held her in his arms, and coaxed her gently.
