Chapter 03 Endorsement
It was Wen Eryu who looked away first. At this moment, she wished she could bury her head in the Chinese textbook.
Although the air conditioner was on in the office, Wen Eryu's face was extremely hot and her back felt like it was being roasted on fire, as if she would burn up in the next second.
Her mind was blank now, and she had long forgotten where she had just recited.
Yao Weimin turned around and asked, "Have you memorized it yet?"
Wen Eryu came back to his senses and blinked guiltily: "No, no."
Yao Weimin frowned and looked down at his watch: "It's break time now, I have to go to a meeting, so how about this, you recite the text to Shen Jize later."
"Ah?" Wen Eryu immediately shook his head and refused, "Forget it, teacher, I won't waste classmate Shen's time."
But the next second, Shen Jize nodded in response: "It's okay, no delay."
Wen Eryu: “…”
Seeing that Shen Jize agreed, Yao Weimin picked up his notebook and walked out of the office with other teachers.
At this time, only Wen Eryu and Shen Jize were left in the office.
An awkward atmosphere spread instantly. The cool wind from the air conditioner blew up the ends of Wen Eryu's hair, but still did not lower her temperature.
Shen Jize sat at a table piled with textbooks, found a test paper and started writing.
The golden sunlight passed over Wen Eryu and shone on Shen Jize, casting irregular light and shadows on his face.
The boy was wearing a clean and tidy school uniform, and his bony hands were casually sliding across the draft paper. He frowned slightly, as if he was thinking seriously about the problem. If you got closer, you could smell the faint scent of laundry detergent on him.
Wen Eryu looked at him quietly, and inadvertently, she saw the pile of homework books that Shen Jize brought over on the table.
The first one is about Class 2 (1) of Senior High School.
Fortunately, Wen Eryu is in Class 9 of Senior 2. Although there is a huge gap between the two classes, it is actually just a matter of going up and down the stairs.
Suddenly, Shen Jize stopped writing and looked up at Wen Eryu.
"Have you memorized it yet?"
Wen Eryu took a deep breath and nodded timidly: "Well, it should be about the same."
Shen Jize stood up and walked towards her, then asked calmly: "You seem to be afraid of me?"
Wen Eryu turned his head away. How could he not be afraid? Who could understand the despair of living again and still encountering him?
"Who, who is scared?" she said hypocritically.
"Then why can't you look me in the eyes?"
Wen Eryu: “…”
Shen Jize's eyes darkened: "Go ahead and carry it on your back."
Wen Eryu obediently closed the Chinese textbook, stared at the ground, and began to recite in a low voice.
But before she could finish reciting, the bell rang and Yao Weimin had just returned to the office after a meeting.
Shen Jize spoke first: "Teacher, she has finished reciting."
"Ah?" Wen Eryu looked at him in confusion.
And Shen Jize glanced at her expressionlessly.
"Okay, then you guys go back and prepare for class." Yao Weimin sat down in his seat and began to correct homework.
When Wen Eryu returned to the classroom, Lin Cheng came up to her and asked, "Why did you take so long?"
"I was left there to endorse it." Wen Eryu sighed, "I didn't expect he would still help me."
"Who helped you with what?" Lin Cheng was confused.
Wen Eryu put the textbook into the drawer: "No one, you heard it wrong."
"Is this true?" Lin Cheng looked at her suspiciously.
Fortunately, the math teacher came in at this time, and Lin Cheng didn't ask any more questions.
*
After school in the afternoon, it was Wen Eryu's turn to clean the house this week.
Lin Cheng had to go to cram school, so she was the only one left in the classroom.
After Wen Eryu swept the floor, she took a rag to the bathroom, wet it, and wrung it dry.
Back in the classroom, she stood on the table and cleaned the window above.
In the setting sun, a group of people were playing basketball on the basketball court, and the sound of sneakers rubbing against the rubber floor could be heard from below from time to time.
Wen Eryu glanced out the window, and the next second, she saw a familiar figure flash through the crowd.
Among a group of boys wearing jerseys, only Shen Jize was wearing a school uniform. He nimbly snatched the basketball from the opponent's hand, then sideways around the person who wanted to stop him, then jumped up and shot a beautiful three-pointer.
"Good shot!" Teammate Li Wei ran over and high-fived him.
Shen Jize lifted his clothes and wiped the sweat from his head. His faintly visible abdominal muscles caused the girls watching the game nearby to scream.
The girls all looked at An Xinqing who was sitting in the middle.
In No. 4 Middle School, everyone knows that Chen Jize and An Xinqing are a perfect match, the school hunk and the school belle, it's only natural.
The people around were cheering, and soon everyone on the court was attracted.
An Xinqing lowered her head shyly: "Hey, keep your voices down, don't disturb them playing."
A girl laughed and said, "I saw Shen Jize looking at you just now. Oh my god, you two are so sweet as a couple that I'm dying of love."
"Don't talk nonsense." An Xinqing made a "hush" gesture, "We're not together yet."
"Then we don't care. I heard from Li Wei that Shen Jize has someone he likes." The girl said, "That person must be you, Xinqing."
When this matter was mentioned, An Xinqing's face darkened, but she disguised it well and no one else noticed.
She forced a smile and brought up a random topic to change the subject.
Wen Eryu, who was on duty on the third floor, was fascinated by what she saw, but she soon looked away. After wiping the glass above, she was about to step down on a chair.
Suddenly, her feet slipped and she fell heavily to the ground. The sharp pain in her back made her gasp several times.
At this moment, Shen Jize, who was playing basketball, suddenly stopped, his eyes fixed on a classroom on the third floor.
He threw down the basketball in his hand and strode towards the teaching building.
"Chen Jize, what are you doing? Are you still going to fight?" Li Wei shouted at his disappearing figure.
But he had long since disappeared.
Li Wei waved his hands helplessly and said, "Forget it, let's continue."
*
Wen Eryu was stunned the moment she fell to the ground, until a girl helped her up.
"Classmate, are you okay?" the girl asked.
Wen Eryu rubbed his butt, steadied his feet, and said, "It's okay, it's okay."
The girl kindly said, "How about I take you to the infirmary?"
She said, "Thank you. I'll just take a rest."
Wen Eryu always felt something was strange. It was time to go home from school and there were almost no people in the teaching building. Why did someone see her fall and come to help her?
The girl said: "Oh, don't thank me, he asked me to come and see you."
"Him?" Wen Eryu asked, "Who is he?"
Shen Jize, who was eavesdropping at the door, couldn't help but hold his breath, afraid that he would be exposed. He clenched his fists nervously, and beads of sweat the size of beans slid down his cheeks and fell to the ground.
"Oh...no one, since you're okay, I'll leave first." The girl hesitated and avoided Wen Eryu's eyes, fearing that Wen Eryu would ask her what was going on, so when she saw that Wen Eryu was okay, she trotted out of the classroom.
Fortunately, the girl didn't say anything more. Shen Jize breathed a sigh of relief and ran downstairs quickly.
After a while, Wen Eryu thought of something. She turned her head to look out the window and found that Shen Jize was still playing basketball downstairs.
It doesn't look like it's him.
For some reason, she felt a little bitter and lost.
Wen Eryu quickly shook her head. What was she thinking just now? Why did she still want to have anything to do with Shen Jize!
Wen Eryu calmed down her upset mood, put the desk and chair back in place, and walked out of the classroom with her schoolbag on her back.
However, she did not go home immediately, but walked towards the outskirts of the city.
*
A new bar recently opened in H City, and a resident singer came in. Not only is he handsome, but his voice has also attracted a large number of fans.
Wen Eryu walked to the door of the bar, then stopped, tidied up her bangs that were messed up by the wind, and looked up - tomorrow bar.
Wen Eryu is only seventeen years old now, so she naturally cannot go in. So she can only stand outside the glass and watch the people inside.
After a moment, the man inside seemed to see Wen Eryu. He played the guitar and smiled outside.
Wen Eryu waved to him, her heart beating fast.
Soon, the man put down his guitar, walked off the stage, said a few words to the bartender, and then walked towards the door.
Wen Eryu saw someone coming out of the door and called out sweetly, "Brother Bo Wen!"
Song Bowen touched her head with a smile in his eyes: "Why are you here today?"
"I just happened to be on duty after school." She curled her lips and said aggrievedly, "And I don't want to go home now."
Song Bowen knew something about the Wen family. He paused, placed his hand on Wen Eryu's head, and gently comforted her, "If you've ever been wronged at home, just tell me. I'll definitely help you."
Wen Eryu nodded.
Song Bowen is eight years older than her. At that time, Song Bowen was the youngest teacher in the interest class. Every time Wen Eryu wanted to be lazy and not practice the piano, he always pretended to be serious and pretended to punish her.
Wen Eryu, still a little kid, couldn't stand the threat and immediately sat down in front of the piano to practice.
Later, Wen Eryu discovered that Song Bowen was a good brother. Every time she came to the interest class without eating, he would always take her out to eat KFC.
Wen Eryu rarely gets to eat what her parents call junk food, so she always deliberately goes to practice the piano on an empty stomach.
But Song Bowen could see through the thoughts of a nine or ten-year-old child at a glance, so how could he not see it?
He just didn't expose it.
"Do you want to eat KFC?" Song Bowen asked softly.
At this moment, Wen Eryu's stomach happened to growl twice. She raised her head and looked at Song Bowen somewhat embarrassedly.
Wen Eryu smiled and said, "Okay, Brother Bo Wen."
The nearest KFC is only three hundred meters away. Before it gets dark, the street lights are on and the blocked intersection is constantly making annoying noises.
It is now a busy time for street shops.
Wen Eryu and Song Bowen walked into KFC and sat down in a secluded corner.
In this era, ordering food by scanning QR codes on mobile phones is not yet popular, so you can only go to the front desk to place your order manually.
Song Bowen asked, "Still the same?"
"Yeah." Wen Eryu put his schoolbag on the chair next to him.
When Song Bowen got up to order food, she took out her cell phone and called Aunt Zhao, saying that she would not be going home for dinner today.
Six minutes later, Song Bowen came over with a full plate.
"Wow, it smells so good." Wen Eryu couldn't help swallowing several times.
She was so hungry that she would have gone home at this time to eat the snacks Aunt Zhao prepared for her.
Song Bowen smiled dotingly, carefully opened all the packages, and handed Wen Eryu a pair of plastic gloves.
"Eat it. Be careful with this red bean pie, it's very hot." He was as gentle and considerate as an older brother to his younger sister, taking care of Wen Eryu in every possible way.
"Hmm!" Wen Eryu didn't care about her image at all and started eating with big mouthfuls.
As dinner time approached, a large number of people flocked into the restaurant and the seats were quickly filled.
After Wen Eryu finished a piece of Colonel Chicken Nuggets, she took a sip of Coke. Just as she raised her head, she saw a familiar figure in the noisy and crowded crowd.
Shen Jize, in his work clothes, shuttled through the crowd and finally stopped next to a table where people had just finished eating. The next second, he neatly dumped the garbage into the trash can without any hesitation.
Soon, another table of customers got up and left, and Shen Jize began to clean up hurriedly again. He did this over and over again, but he didn't feel tired at all.
But, shouldn't his family be rich?
After all, the annual tuition for a private school like No. 4 Middle School is a considerable amount of money. If a family without some financial resources sends their children there, they will be out of pocket.
In her previous life, Wen Eryu knew nothing about Shen Jize's school days or anything about his family. When she married him, she just thought that he had achieved his current success thanks to the support of his family.
But now...he is working in this kind of fast food restaurant. Isn't this right?
"What are you looking at?" Song Bowen's voice sounded in Wen Eryu's ears, pulling her back from her trance.
Wen Eryu retracted her gaze and took another sip of Coke, trying to let the numbing feeling of the carbonated drink wash away everything about Chen Jize in her mind.
But obviously, it was in vain.
"No, nothing." Wen Eryu shook his head.
Song Bowen paused and didn't ask any further questions. He just looked silently in the direction Wen Eryu had just looked.
