Chapter 16 Seeing Blood
When Dada was crying, Wen Eryu didn't know what was happening.
Shen Jize patted his shoulder and said, "Don't cry, brother will buy you a new Ultraman."
"Really?" A bubble of snot came out of Dada's nose.
Shen Jize wiped it off for him with a napkin: "Really, except for that thing."
Dada pushed him away and ran into Wen Eryu's arms, crying, "Sister Wen, don't play with him. He's a bad guy."
Wen Eryu hugged him helplessly and nodded in response: "...Okay, sister will only play with you."
"Xia, Da." Shen Jize said word by word with a cold face.
Dada cried even louder and kept asking Wen Eryu to save him.
"Okay, he's just a child, why are you being so mean to him?" Wen Eryu reproached.
Dada made a face at Chen Jize in her arms: "That's right, Sister Wen, my brother said he doesn't allow me to play with you."
"Oh?" Wen Eryu looked at him with a raised tone.
"No." Shen Jize's eyes dodged, "I never said that."
At this time, Xue Fenghua came out of the kitchen. Seeing this, Shen Jize stood up and walked into the kitchen to bring out all the dishes.
Xue Fenghua took off her apron and went back to the room to spray some Yunnan Baiyao on her ankles. In fact, Wen Eryu had just come into the kitchen and asked her if she needed help, but she refused. With only a few dishes, she quickly cooked them all by herself.
After coming out of the room, Xue Fenghua said, "Everyone, come and have dinner."
Shen Jize had already set the table. He asked, "Isn't my uncle coming back to eat tonight?"
Xue Fenghua shook his head: "He worked overtime tonight and ate at the factory. We don't need to wait for him."
"Yeah." Shen Jize helped her pull the chair away.
There were four dishes and one soup on the table. Although they were just simple home-cooked meals, Wen Eryu thought they were particularly delicious.
Xue Fenghua told Shen Jize what happened in the afternoon.
When she learned that Wen Eryu and Shen Jize were classmates, she was shocked. "I didn't expect it to be such a coincidence. I see that Aze rarely hangs out with his classmates, and Eryu is the first female classmate I've seen playing with Aze."
"...Is that so, Auntie?" Wen Eryu said with a wry smile.
Xue Fenghua picked up a piece of meat with chopsticks and put it in her bowl: "Eat more meat, you are too thin."
"Okay." Wen Eryu ate his meal with big mouthfuls.
In fact, she is not very thin, but in the eyes of her elders, she is still a child, so she needs to eat more to make herself plump so that her complexion will look better.
Dada was eating with his mouth full of rice grains, and it seemed that he was really hungry.
At this moment, there was a hurried knock on the door.
Xue Fenghua thought it was Xia Jun who came back, so he asked Shen Jize to open the door.
But the person who came was not Xia Jun, but the landlord who came to collect rent.
"You haven't paid your rent for this month for a week, and it was the same for last month. If you don't pay, you'll have to pack up and leave my place."
The landlord spoke in an aggressive tone, holding a bunch of keys in his hand and a cigarette in his mouth, and the ashes with sparks fell on the concrete floor.
"We'll pay it right away." After Shen Jize finished speaking, he walked into the room and took out an old-fashioned wallet. He then took out a few bills from it and handed them to the landlord.
"I only receive this little money every month. You're really doing charity. Please be on time next time."
Shen Jize: "Okay, take care."
After seeing the landlord off, Shen Jize sat back down at the dining table.
Xue Fenghua put down his chopsticks and frowned, "Aze, where did you get the money?"
Shen Jize touched the tip of his nose and said nonchalantly, "I made some money working part-time outside."
"You're working part-time again?" Xue Fenghua said in a dissatisfied tone, "Kid, I've told you countless times that you don't have to worry about money. Your uncle and I are working. The most important thing for you now is to study hard and get into a good university."
Shen Jize lowered his head and clenched the chopsticks in his hand tightly. He didn't know how many times he had heard these words. Every time he was caught secretly working part-time by Xue Fenghua, he would inevitably be scolded by her.
But without money, he would always be inferior to others. He was fed up with being looked down upon by others. All the ridicule and humiliation he had suffered over the years were crushed into spit by him.
Seeing the awkward situation, Wen Eryu immediately tried to smooth things over, saying, "Auntie, he just wants to help ease the burden on the family. Don't be angry. I'll help you supervise him from now on. I'll make sure he studies hard in school and doesn't do anything messy."
Xue Fenghua looked at the girl's smiling face, and her anger subsided a lot: "This is too much trouble for you."
"It's no trouble." Wen Eryu waved his hand and said.
Shen Jize, who was sitting across from the table, had a sullen face. He stood up and said, "I'm full."
Then he walked out the door without looking back.
"Where are you going so late at night?" Xue Fenghua shouted worriedly.
However, the only response she got was the door closing.
*
When Wen Eryu chased out the door, Shen Jize was no longer outside.
There were only a few scattered street lights in the community, and under the dim light, she could only see the road under her feet.
The night wind was bitterly cold. Wen Eryu was only wearing her winter school uniform, but she was still shivering from the cold.
Shen Jize probably didn't go far. She called his name at the bottom of the community, but no one responded to her.
She walked aimlessly in the community like a headless fly.
Suddenly, she stopped and stared blankly ahead.
Shen Jize leaned against the street light, typing on his phone with one hand, his eyes flickering, but the next second, he quickly turned off the phone and strode out of the community.
Wen Eryu followed. Shen Jize walked so fast that she almost couldn't keep up with him several times.
After walking for ten minutes, he stopped in front of an old grocery store.
There was a gap at the bottom of the rolling door of the grocery store. Shen Jize looked around and saw that there was no one around. He bent down and pulled up the rolling door. After he walked in, he pulled it down again and restored the door to its previous appearance.
Wen Eryu walked over from the alley, turned sideways and put his ear against the rolling door.
Under the incandescent light, the figures swayed, and there were two other figures besides Shen Jize.
"Are you the person Brother Li introduced?" The man had a deep voice and sounded like he was in his thirties or forties.
Shen Jize: “Yeah.”
"You don't look that old, why do you want to do this?"
Shen Jize sat down: "We are short of money."
The man chuckled. "Back when I was your age, I had already given up studying. I was just like you. My family had no money, so I tried every possible way to make money."
I don’t know if it was because Shen Jize saw his own figure, but the man’s tone was much softer than at the beginning.
"You and Xiao Zheng will follow me later."
"Um."
At this moment, Wen Eryu, who was eavesdropping outside, was hit by a strong light.
"Who are you?"
Wen Eryu thought to herself that something was wrong. Just as she was about to escape, the rolling door was pulled up.
When Shen Jize saw that it was her, his pupils trembled, and then he pulled her behind him.
"One of our own," he explained.
Jin Kun looked Wen Eryu up and down, and seeing that the little girl was still in her school uniform, he asked, "Student?"
Wen Eryu had not yet recovered from the shock, but he nodded his head up and down.
Jin Kun spat out the toothpick in his mouth and glanced at the people outside: "Nothing."
The man nodded and put the knife back in his hand.
The rolling door was pulled down again, and this time Wen Eryu sat inside.
Shen Ji Ze frowned and asked, "Why are you here?"
"Aunt Xue was worried about you, so she asked me to come out to look for you." Wen Eryu said, "Why did you come to a place like this?"
Jin Kun looked like he was watching a show and jokingly said, "This is a place where people are eaten. Are you afraid?"
Wen Eryu laughed. We live in a society ruled by law now. How could someone die?
Jin Kun also laughed: "You have courage, little girl."
At this time, Xiao Zheng received the news and said, "Brother Kun, the people will be here soon."
Jin Kun drank the wine on the table in one gulp. The low-quality liquor was particularly burning in his throat.
"Let's go, let's get started."
Shen Jize turned to Wen Eryu and said, "Go back and tell my aunt that I'll be home soon."
"I won't." Wen Eryu refused, "Whatever you want to do, I want to go too."
"No." Shen Jize said unhappily. He couldn't let Wen Eryu see that kind of scene.
Helping someone collect debts is not an easy task. After all, the other party is a deadbeat debtor and has learned many ways to evade debts over the years.
But before Shen Jize could explain, Jin Kun was already urging him at the door.
"I'll explain it to you when I get back." Shen Jize said, then got in the van and left the grocery store.
Wen Eryu's heart tightened as he watched the rear end of the car disappear.
*
Wen Eryu brought Shen Jize's words to Xue Fenghua and then returned home.
In the villa, Wen Liang did not come back tonight, and only the light in Aunt Zhao's room was on.
She went upstairs and changed out of her school uniform.
It was late at night. Wen Eryu lay on the bed after washing up, but she couldn't fall asleep. As soon as she closed her eyes, her mind was full of the conversation between Shen Jize and Jin Kun.
In fact, when Shen Jize got in the car, she saw that the car was full of knives and sticks.
After thinking about it, Wen Eryu sat up. Suddenly, there was a knock on the window in her room.
"Who?" Wen Eryu turned on the light and looked at the window vigilantly.
Shen Jize's weak voice came from outside: "It's me."
"Chen Ji Ze?" After confirming that the voice was his, Wen Eryu got out of bed and opened the window.
Shen Jize, covered in blood, threw himself on Wen Eryu.
The chilly cold wind rushed in with him. Wen Eryu hugged him tightly, and freed one hand to close the window and draw the curtains.
She put Shen Jize on the sofa and checked his injuries.
Suddenly, Shen Jize opened his eyes and grabbed her hand on his chest.
He said slowly: "I'm fine, the blood belongs to someone else."
Wen Eryu breathed a sigh of relief, but soon clenched her fist angrily and hit him on the chest.
She said, "Explain."
Shen Jize swallowed his saliva and said, "I helped someone collect a debt, and the other party gave me a good reward."
"But this is too dangerous." Wen Eryu finally understood where the scar on his face came from during the day. "No matter how much you need money, you can't risk your life."
Shen Jize sneered and said self-deprecatingly: "Life? My life is worthless."
The next second, his lips were covered by Wen Eryu's warm palm.
The girl glared and frowned and said, "Don't look at yourself so cheaply."
