Chapter 36: New Life
After Xia Da got Xia Jun's physical examination report, she walked to the hospital parking lot.
A black Porsche was parked in the VIP parking space, with the back seat window half open. When the man inside saw him coming, he closed the documents in his hand.
After Xia Da got in the car, he handed the report to Shen Jize.
"Dad's liver and kidneys are not in good condition. Ask the nanny to cook lighter meals for him from now on."
"Hmm." Shen Jize flipped through a few pages of paper with his slender fingers and glanced at them.
He glanced at his watch again, frowned, and asked, "What took you so long?"
Xia Da: "Oh...um...I went to the bathroom on my way back."
Shen Jize raised his eyes and glanced at him. After a moment of silence, he said, "Well, let's go."
After receiving the instruction, the driver started the car.
Xia Da felt relieved when she saw that Shen Jize didn't doubt anything.
But he couldn't figure out why Shen Jize still wanted to help that woman.
"elder brother."
Shen Jize rubbed his temples and replied, "What's wrong?"
Xiada expressed the doubts in her heart.
"You've divorced Wen Eryu, so why are you still paying for her medical expenses?" he asked. "I don't understand. She clearly doesn't like you. This bad woman doesn't deserve your help at all."
"Xia Da!" Shen Jize felt a splitting headache at this moment. When he heard the name Wen Eryu, he couldn't help but feel irritated.
He lowered his voice and said, "Don't worry about her affairs."
"But……"
"Have you forgotten all the rules on the bus?"
"No." Xiada gritted his teeth and replied unwillingly.
It is not allowed to talk when riding in Shen Ji Ze's car. This is something everyone around him knows.
The car slowly drove through the inpatient department and happened to pass by Wen Eryu who was about to return to the ward.
The person sitting in the wheelchair suddenly signaled Lin Cheng behind him to stop.
She turned her head and stared at the car window, but she could only see her own reflection.
"What's wrong?"
Lin Cheng looked in her direction in confusion, but there was nothing.
The car had already driven away.
Wen Eryu withdrew his gaze and pulled up the blanket on his legs.
"It's okay, maybe I saw it wrong."
Lin Cheng muttered, not quite understanding what Wen Eryu said.

After resting in the hospital for more than half a year, Wen Eryu was finally able to be discharged.
After packing her things, she went through the discharge procedures on her own.
Wen Liang bought her a mobile phone a few days ago, which only contained Lin Cheng and his contact information.
She called Wen Liang.
"Dad, I'm discharged from the hospital."
"It's okay, don't worry, I'll come see you after I'm settled."
"Okay, got it. I'll eat well. I'll hang up now."
Wen Liang was on a business trip and couldn't come back to pick her up from the hospital, but she didn't care too much about it.
The early spring wind was still chilly, blowing the hair on her forehead and revealing the scar that had scabbed over and faded in color.
Spring has come, but her winter seems to be still very long.
Wen Eryu dragged a small suitcase and walked out of the hospital gate.
The sunlight was a little dazzling, she squinted her eyes and joined the crowd on the street alone, her back looking thin.
The house is on the top floor of a residential building in the old city without an elevator. The corridor is a bit dim and the walls are mottled, but the rent is cheap.
The money she has now can only afford to rent this place.
The room was small, with one bedroom, one kitchen, and one bathroom. The furniture was simple: a second-hand single bed, a paint-chip desk that also served as a dining table, a chair, and an old wooden wardrobe.
The window faces north, so the lighting isn't very good, but you can see a few old locust trees downstairs that are beginning to sprout.
Wen Eryu spent two full days cleaning, scrubbing away all traces left by the previous tenant, mopping the floor until it was reflective, and wiping the window glass spotlessly clean.
She used the plain sheets and quilt covers she brought with her and made sure there wasn't a single wrinkle on the bed.
After finishing all this, it was already half past ten in the evening.
Wen Eryu took out the payment list from the innermost part of the suitcase. She looked at the numbers on it and was silent for a while.
Then she took a deep breath.
She had to find a way to collect the money and return it to Shen Jize.
*
My new job is as an accountant at a small technology company.
When Wen Eryu was in college, he studied accounting, so the job he found was quite suitable for his major.
She had never thought about working after graduation before, after all, Wen Liang had assets.
Accountant Zhang, who worked at the next desk, was a warm-hearted woman. She leaned over and spoke to Wen Eryu: "Xiao Wen, have you heard about Xiao Wang in the business department..."
Wen Eryu raised her head from the screen, her eyes calm and composed. Regarding the gossip, she simply shook her head slightly: "I don't know."
Then she immediately turned her gaze back to her own screen. After being rejected several times, Sister Zhang tactfully stopped bothering her.
During lunch break, Wen Eryu stood up with a cup of water and went to the teahouse to get hot water to make tea.
The door of the tea room was ajar, and the sounds of laughter and conversation could be heard from inside, although they were deliberately suppressed but still clear.
Wen Eryu paused outside the door, and her hand, which was about to push the door, stopped in mid-air. The person inside obviously didn't notice that there was someone outside the door.
"...So, that new girl is really weird." Liu Yun's voice had the usual gossip tone, with the ending tone dragging a little long.
Wang Hui's voice followed, tinged with confusion and slight disdain. "Yeah, I feel the same way! She sits in the corner across from me, like a robot, arriving and leaving on time every day without saying a word. If you say hello to her, she'll just nod and won't even glance at you for a second."
Sister Zhang sighed. "Oh, this Xiao Wen is quite capable. I can trust her with any job. She does it quickly and well. But... she's too independent."
She lowered her voice a little: "Did you see the scar on her forehead? It's very faint. She wouldn't tell me how she got it."
Liu Yun sneered, "I think she's just a weirdo! One time I brought some local specialties from my hometown and wanted to share some with her, but she said 'No, thank you' without even looking at them. That tone... Tsk, it was as if I gave her poison!"
"Right, right, right," Wang Hui seemed to have found a resonance. "I feel like her face is full of the words 'keep away from strangers'. Do you think she has some psychological problems? She must have been through some kind of trauma. Look at her eyes, so empty."
Liu Yun said: "Last time I saw her, she was quite nice to our supervisor. She might be thinking -"
Before she could even utter the word "hook up", Sister Zhang elbowed her.
"What's wrong?" she asked. "I haven't finished yet."
"Stop talking and look at the door." Sister Zhang lowered her voice and signaled her with her eyes.
Liu Yun looked towards the door and found that Wen Eryu had been standing there without him noticing.
Wen Eryu didn't say anything. After looking at them, he walked to the water dispenser with his cup and stopped.
The atmosphere in the tea room suddenly became extremely awkward.
Sister Zhang gave Wen Eryu a wry smile: "Xiao Wen, weren't you taking a lunch break just now?"
Wen Eryu closed the lid of the water cup and chuckled, "Yeah, if I hadn't come to get water, I wouldn't have known you were so interested in me."
She deliberately emphasized the last few words.
"That's not what we meant..."
Sister Zhang wanted to explain, but Wen Eryu didn't want to listen and walked straight out of the tea room.
Before she could take a few steps, Wei Yan found her.
"Xiao Wen, come to my office, I'm looking for you." Wei Yan said.
"Okay, Director Wei."
Wen Eryu put the cup back on her workstation, then followed Wei Yan into his office.
Wei Yan sat on the sofa and said, "There is a dinner party tomorrow night and I need you to attend it with me."
"Me?" Wen Eryu pointed at himself in confusion.
"Yes, there are many bigwigs from H City attending this dinner. As long as we seize this opportunity and reach a cooperation agreement with Mr. Shen, our company will not have to worry about business in the next few years."
Wei Yan took a look at Wen Eryu's outfit and said "tsk".
Then he stood up and took out a card from the drawer and handed it to her.
"Take this card and go to the mall tonight and buy yourself a dress that catches your eye."
Wen Eryu took it in a daze: "Oh... OK."
Wait, Mr. Shen?
She suddenly came to her senses and asked, "Is this Mr. Shen called Shen Jize?"
Wei Yan's words were filled with admiration: "Yes, it's Shen Ji Ze, the financial giant who built himself up from scratch in just a few years."
