Chapter 52 Pillow
The rain came in torrents, drowning out the pure music in the car.
Wen Eryu was soaked, with water droplets hanging on her seaweed-like hair.
“Is there any paper in the car?”
Shen Jize glanced at her and quickly returned his gaze to the steering wheel.
"There's a towel in the back seat. If you can't get it, forget it. Don't worry about getting the seat wet."
Wen Eryu felt sticky all over. After thinking about it, she unbuckled her seat belt, quickly got a towel from the back seat and fastened her seat belt again.
The cold air blew on her face, and she couldn't help but sneeze.
Seeing this, Shen Jize adjusted the car's air conditioner to the lowest gear and closed the air vent in front of Wen Eryu with one hand.
"We'll be there soon."
"good."
Wen Eryu nodded weakly. She had been tense these past few days. Now, with Chen Jize by her side, she could finally relax for a moment. Not long after, she fell asleep leaning against the car window with a towel in her arms.
*
After the car stopped, Shen Jize turned to look at the passenger seat.
"arrive."
However, the only response he received was the sound of regular breathing.
Shen Jize sighed helplessly, he got out of the car and walked to the other side to open the door, then unbuckled her seat belt and held her carefully in his arms.
Along the way, Wen Eryu kept frowning, as if he was having a nightmare. If you listened carefully, you could hear very soft sobbing.
Aunt Sun came out of the kitchen after she finished her work and just saw Shen Jize coming in with Wen Eryu in his arms.
She quickly took off her apron and stepped forward to ask, "Is the Madam back?"
"Yes." Shen Jize said, "Please change her clothes later."
"No problem, Mr. Shen."
Shen Jize carried Wen Eryu back to the master bedroom and then handed it over to Aunt Sun.
After everything was done, he returned to the bedroom.
Aunt Sun took the changed clothes and said to him: "Mr. Shen, I think my wife has a fever. Do you want to take her to the hospital?"
Upon hearing this, Shen Jize walked to the bedside, reached out and gently placed his hand on her forehead.
The next second, he frowned, withdrew his hand, took out his cell phone and called his private doctor.
Then, he asked Aunt Sun to apply an ice towel to her for a while.
Shen Jize still had several important meetings to attend to, so after a quick glance at the person on the bed, he walked into the study.
The next day, when Wen Eryu woke up, he found himself back in this familiar yet unfamiliar room.
She rubbed her still painful temples, and after getting off the bed, the door was pushed open.
Sun came in with a bowl of porridge.
Seeing Wen Eryu wake up, she said happily, "Madam, I made you some porridge. Come and have some. You are sick now, so don't move too much. If you need anything, just call me directly."
Wen Eryu looked at the clothes on her body and asked doubtfully, "Auntie Sun, my clothes..."
“Oh, Mr. Shen brought you back yesterday. Seeing that you hadn’t woken up and your body was soaked, he asked me to change you.”
Wen Eryu breathed a sigh of relief, luckily it was Aunt Sun who changed it.
She smiled and said, "Thank you, Aunt Sun."
"Oh, these are all trivial matters. Let's not talk about them anymore. Just drink this porridge quickly and continue to rest."
Aunt Sun put the bowl on the table and walked out.
But after a moment, she came back with a cup of water and a box of medicine in her hand.
"Oh, look at my memory. I almost forgot something important." Aunt Sun said apologetically, "This is the medicine prescribed by the doctor. Take two pills three times a day. I poured you some warm water. Madam, remember to take it after you finish your porridge."
Wen Eryu nodded obediently and said, "Okay."
After everyone left, Wen Eryu sat down, picked up a spoon, scooped up a spoonful of porridge, blew on it a few times, and then put it into his mouth.
The white porridge had a hint of sweetness and a rich rice aroma in her mouth, and the perfect temperature warmed her stomach.
After eating half a bowl of porridge, Wen Eryu felt full. She took the medicine as Aunt Sun instructed.
Then she stood up and looked around.
The bedroom was still the same as before. Wen Eryu opened the wardrobe and found that her clothes were still there, not a single one missing, and next to them were Chen Jize's clothes.
Wen Eryu let out a long breath and then closed the wardrobe door.
Instead of going back to bed to rest, she opened the door and went out.
Just as she was about to go downstairs, she happened to meet Shen Jize coming out of the study.
The man seemed to have not slept all night. His eyes were full of red bloodshot and there were stubble at the corners of his mouth. The clothes he was wearing were still the same as when they met yesterday. He had not changed them at all.
"Good morning." Wen Eryu greeted him.
Shen Jize nodded: "Yeah."
Wen Eryu was about to speak when he spoke first, "Talk to Aunt Sun if you have anything to say. I still have some things to deal with at the company. I'm leaving first."
"..." Wen Eryu swallowed what he wanted to say, and after a moment of silence, he smiled and said, "Okay."
In her impression, Shen Jize always seemed to be busy.
Before, she was glad that he was so busy that he rarely came home.
But now, she kind of wanted to keep him and let him stay at home with her.
Wen Eryu watched through the window as the villa gate slowly opened and the car gradually drove away. She stood there for a long time until Aunt Sun came over and called her.
"Auntie Sun, I have to go out for something, so you don't have to make my share of lunch."
"But, Madam, you haven't recovered from your cold yet." Aunt Sun advised, "There's no sun today, and we don't know when it will rain."
Wen Eryu smiled and said, "It's okay."
She ignored Aunt Sun's dissuasion, went upstairs, changed her clothes, grabbed her cell phone and went out.
Aunt Sun sighed in the living room and sent a text message to Shen Jize.
[Mr. Shen, your wife has gone out.]
After a moment, the other side replied.
[It's okay, let her go.]
*
Wen Eryu took a taxi to her rental house.
As soon as she got off the car, she saw many media outlets squatting downstairs with cameras.
Wen Eryu was glad that she brought a mask when she went out.
She originally wanted to come back and live here, but she didn't expect that the place was already surrounded by people.
"Is Wen Eryu at home? I've been squatting here all night and haven't seen anyone come down."
"She didn't turn on the lights in the room at night. Could she have stopped living here a long time ago?"
"Impossible. Someone privately messaged me saying they saw her going out the day before yesterday. Let's wait a little longer."
The concrete floor was littered with cigarette butts and garbage. At that moment, a reporter seemed to recognize Wen Eryu and excitedly shouted, "There she is!"
"Where? Where is it?"
The next second, a group of people ran towards her.
Seeing this, Wen Eryu immediately turned around and ran, but it was too late to take a taxi.
When she ran to the gate of the community, a luxury car was parked there.
The driver opened the door and said to her, “Boss Shen sent me here, please get in the car.”
Wen Eryu nodded in panic and got into the car.
After the driver got in the car, he immediately started it, stepped on the accelerator, and sped away with a "boom", instantly leaving behind a large group of reporters and paparazzi behind.
After leaving the rental house, Wen Eryu finally calmed down.
The driver just said that Shen Jize sent him, which means Shen Jize knew about it a long time ago.
Wen Eryu took off his mask and finally breathed a breath of fresh air.
Suddenly, she thought of something and said to the driver, "Can you please take me to the mall?"
The driver was stunned for a moment, then replied, "Of course."
*
After returning from the mall, Wen Eryu went back to her room and didn't go out for several hours.
Aunt Sun stood at the door, not knowing what she was busy with inside.
It was not until dinner time that Wen Eryu slowly walked downstairs from the room.
She sewed a pillow for Shen Jize herself. The steps were quite simple. She just had to stuff the pillow core into the pillowcase and sew it shut.
But this was a difficult challenge for Wen Eryu, who had never done needlework before.
In order to sew this pillow, she had no idea how many times her fingers had been pricked. Her fingertips still seemed to have the subtle touch of the needle piercing the fabric countless times, as well as a few tiny spots of blood that had long since dried up after being pricked.
She specially selected the fabric of the pillowcase, which is a soft light gray plaid.
It's filled with buckwheat hulls mixed with dried lavender and crushed chamomile petals.
Wen Eryu specially chose a medicated pillow. She had asked Aunt Sun and found out that Shen Jize had not slept well in the past few days, so she thought of giving him a pillow.
At this moment, footsteps were heard at the gate.
Shen Jize opened the door and walked in, with a barely perceptible trace of fatigue between his brows.
Wen Eryu held the pillow and moved forward hesitantly.
"I..." She stammered, "I made a pillow with buckwheat hulls and some calming dried flowers inside. I heard it helps with sleep a little."
By the end of her speech, her voice was almost inaudible.
Shen Jize looked at her without saying anything.
His bottomless gaze fell on the light gray pillow and he stayed there for a moment.
Just as he took a step forward and was about to walk towards Wen Eryu, a male voice stopped him.
"Wow! What the hell is this? A tattered cushion I found at a street stall?"
Xia Da appeared at the door at some point.
He was wearing a fancy bright-colored casual outfit, his hair fixed into a flamboyant style with hairspray. He had a sneer on his face, and his eyes swept contemptuously over the pillow in Wen Eryu's arms, and then over her instantly stiff face.
He deliberately raised the end of his voice and taunted, "Isn't your way of currying favor a bit too shabby? You think you can fool my brother with some rotten grass shells? Do you think our family is a scrap collector?"
Xia Da sneered, "Brother, what kind of pillow do you want? I have a dozen Italian handmade goose down pillows delivered to you tomorrow."
"Xia Da." Shen Jize gave him a look, signaling him not to speak.
But Xiada insisted on speaking, so he snatched the pillow from Wen Eryu's arms and threw it on the ground.
"You still have the nerve to give it to me." He turned to look at Shen Jize and said in confusion: "Brother, have you forgotten that she also gave you a pillow last time? Who knew that this cruel woman actually hid a needle in it!"
When Wen Eryu heard this, she remembered that she had indeed given Shen Jize a pillow before, and had indeed hidden a needle in it.
However, she did this in a moment of confusion, wanting to anger Shen Jize and make him divorce her.
She regrets it now.
Shen Jize, this idiot, actually fell asleep when I gave it to him.
At this moment, the pillow in Wen Eryu's arms instantly became hot, and her fingertips sank deeply into the soft cotton.
Her body was frozen in place, unable to move. She could only bite her lower lip tightly to suppress the sourness in her throat.
Xiada seemed very satisfied with her reaction, and the sneer on her face became even stronger.
Just then—
"Shut up."
Two words, low and hoarse.
The laughter stopped abruptly.
The smugness on Xiada's face froze instantly, and she turned to look at him in disbelief.
Shen Jize didn't look at Xia Da, his eyes fell heavily on the pillow thrown on the ground.
"Pick it up."
Xia Da's arrogance visibly waned, his hands tightened, his eyes full of confusion.
"Why?"
"Pick up the pillow." Each of his words was wrapped in a heavy chill, and he patiently said it a second time.
The moment the words fell, the color drained from Xia Da's face, and his lips moved as if he wanted to refute something, but he could only swallow his anger and pick up the pillow.
Shen Jize took it from him.
Xiada snorted unwillingly.
"You are truly hopeless."
Shen Jize seemed to have not heard at all, and his slender fingers stroked the cloth lightly.
His fingertips lingered on the tiny flaw for a very brief moment.
Then he nodded slightly.
"Yeah." There's no hope.
He hugged the pillow, turned around and walked towards the spiral staircase leading to the bedroom on the second floor.
Xia Da stared at Shen Jize's departing back, then cursed.
He said to Wen Eryu, "You better not be playing any tricks, otherwise, I will never forgive you!"
Wen Eryu looked at him with a clear conscience and said nothing.
Xiada was finally angry and left.
The living room returned to silence. Wen Eryu's gaze involuntarily turned to the top of the spiral staircase, where Shen Jize's figure disappeared.
The faint scent of herbs in the air is like a silent thread, pulling at some indescribable emotions.
She stepped onto the spiral staircase, and the sandalwood handrails were icy cold to the touch.
The door of the master bedroom was ajar, letting in a ray of warm yellow light.
Wen Eryu stopped outside the door, his fingertips curled in his palms, and his breathing unconsciously became lighter.
She looked inside through the narrow crack in the door.
Shen Jize sat on the edge of the wide bed with his back to the door, the pillow carefully held in his hand.
He lowered his head and moved slowly.
One hand was pinching a corner of the pillow, and the fingers of the other hand were gently smoothing out the wrinkles on the pillowcase surface that she had sewn crookedly. The force of his fingertips was very light, with a kind of clumsy seriousness, as if he was treating an extremely precious and fragile item.
Shen Jize maintained that posture, and the next second, he said, "Come in if you want."
