We were a bit rushed to get back to the city at noon, so we had lunch in the membership service area of the golf course.
Xia Xi had his work lunch with other staff at the stadium, not in the same area as Xu Yanfeng and the others.
In the private room, Ling Yan sipped the fine red wine and mentioned Xia Xi deliberately: "Where's that little caddy? Why don't you ask him to come and eat with us? After all, he's Afeng's schoolmate."
Her sister chimed in: "After all, we're not very familiar with each other, so maybe he's not used to it."
Fu Li heard something, but didn't interrupt. He just shook his head and smiled.
Xu Yanfeng was about to drive, so he didn't drink a drop of wine. He filled his stomach in silence and pressed his mouth with a napkin. "You guys eat slowly. I'm going back to school first. I have an assignment due this afternoon."
"Hey, Afeng..." Ling Yan quickly put down the goblet and stood up to follow him.
Another voice followed closely behind. It was Fu Li's: "Wait for me for a moment. I'll take your car back."
Xu Yanfeng stopped and looked back at him: "Are you going back to school too?"
Fu Li: “Yeah.”
Compared to Xu Yanfeng, who lived on campus most of the time and occasionally stayed in an off-campus apartment, Fu Li had never lived on campus for a single day. No matter how busy he was, he would always go home. He was very pampered. Today was the weekend, and he should have gone home.
Xu Yanfeng didn't ask any more questions, sat back and waited for him, playing with the car keys with his fingers.
Ling Yan was no longer in such a hurry. She slowly picked up the vegetable salad from the white porcelain plate with her fork and smiled at Xu Yanfeng: "Can I take your car back later? The driver had something to do and drove away."
Xu Yanfeng didn't say whether it was good or bad: "I plan to take the highway. Is it on your way?"
Ling Yan choked on a mouthful of vegetables and was speechless. If they took the highway, they would be closer to Nanjing University and avoid her house. The rest of the way back, she would either have to take a taxi or Xu Yanfeng would give her a ride.
She didn't dare to think about the latter, as Xu Yanfeng had just said that he had to hurry back to finish his homework.
"Forget it then." Ling Yan pulled her lip in disappointment. "I'll just take Feifei's car back."
After the meal, everyone got in their cars and went to different places.
As the Mercedes-Benz drove out of the stadium gate, both people in the car noticed the tall and slender figure standing on the side of the road. She was wearing a simple white sportswear with a Klein blue sports bag hanging on one shoulder. She was holding a mobile phone in her hand and looking down, occasionally glancing at the wide asphalt road in front of her to see if there were any taxis passing by.
Fu Li, who was sitting in the passenger seat, rubbed his fingertips and said, "It's hard to get a taxi here."
Xu Yanfeng remained unmoved.
The last time I picked up Xia Xi, it was because it was night, raining heavily, and there was no one around, so I was concerned about her safety. Now it was broad daylight, so there was no safety risk. At most, I would have to wait a little longer.
Xu Yanfeng drove past Xia Xi without slowing down, turned on the turn signal and turned right.
Xia Xi turned around and recognized that the car belonged to Xu Yanfeng. He raised his eyebrows and acted faster than he thought, waving his arms to stop the car.
Xu Yanfeng pretended not to see it, turned the car onto the right road, and was about to speed up when Xia Xi stopped in front of the car. He frowned and had to step on the brakes. Xia Xi walked around to the window on the driver's side and knocked on it with his fingers.
The car window rolled down, revealing Xu Yanfeng's angular profile. The sunlight was dazzling, and he was wearing sunglasses, looking even more indifferent than usual.
Xia Xi bent down and put his head closer: "Are you going back to school?"
Xu Yanfeng wanted to deny it, but the person next to him spoke faster than him: "Yes."
"It's just right. I need to go back to school too." Xia Xi held onto the bottom edge of the car window with both hands, a look of "please" written all over her face. "It's not convenient to take a taxi here. Can you give me a ride, senior?"
Someone honked the horn from behind. It was Xu Yanfeng's car parked here, blocking the road.
Behind his sunglasses, his brows darkened. Xu Yanfeng didn't want to be an uncultured car owner, so he tilted his head and said to Xia Xi, "Get in the car."
Xia Xi didn't hesitate. The moment he finished speaking, he took a step back, opened the car door, and got in with a triumphant smile on his face. "Senior, I'm ready. Let's go."
Xu Yanfeng silently said "enemy" in his heart and started the car.
Fu Li clenched his right fist and pressed it to his lips, trying to suppress a smile. It was truly rare that Xu Yanfeng could be manipulated. In his opinion, it wouldn't be long before his cold-faced and cold-hearted good brother would be completely taken advantage of by someone.
After getting in the car, Xia Xi counted the part-time fee in the envelope. She was a temporary caddy and her salary was paid by the hour. Today was a rest day, and her salary was higher than that on weekdays, two hundred yuan an hour. She played with the young masters and young ladies in the morning and earned six hundred yuan. She also made an appointment with Xu Yanfeng to have dinner together, which was a two-pronged approach.
This trip was worth it.
Xia Xi happily stuffed the money into her bag and wanted to talk to Xu Yanfeng. She tilted her head and found that the boy sitting in the passenger seat was taking a nap with his eyes closed. She had to hold back the urge to speak and quietly accompanied Xu Yanfeng.
In fact, she was also very sleepy, but it was not friendly to the driver and unsafe for two people to sleep in the car.
Xia Xi held it in for a while, but couldn't control the urge to speak. She leaned forward, her hands on the backrest of the car seat in front of her, and tried to keep her voice as low as possible: "Xu Yanfeng, you promised to have breakfast with me next Thursday. You won't go back on your word, right?"
Xu Yanfeng: "If you mention it again, I might regret it."
Xia Xi covered her mouth, and her eyes bulged. He would use threats to deal with her.
She took her hand away from her mouth and spoke again: "Can I choose not to eat in the cafeteria? Let's go eat outside."
"what ever."
Xia Xi was secretly delighted. Taking advantage of Xu Yanfeng's ease, she pressed the issue further, "Then how do we arrange a specific time and place?" She scratched her head in feigned distress, trying to lure him in. "How about you remove me from your WeChat blacklist?"
