Chapter 139 I Want You to Kiss Me

The waiter first glanced at Xu Yanfeng, using his eyes to confirm whether what Xia Xi said was true. However, Xu Yanfeng seemed not to receive the signal from the waiter. He remained in a state of shock, his eyes glued to Xia Xi's face.

For the first time, he had this dreamlike feeling, as if everything happening before his eyes was not real. He needed to carefully identify whether she was real or an illusion.

But his brain stopped functioning and his other senses also failed, making him feel like he had lost his soul and even had difficulty focusing his eyes.

Xia Xi was too lazy to keep up with the waiter, so she simply walked around him, raised her head, tightened her arms holding the roses, and walked towards Xu Yanfeng with firm and somewhat heroic steps.

Stopping in front of him, she smiled and finally said to him the four words she had been brewing all the way: "Happy New Year!"

Xu Yanfeng looked at her steadily. The smile on her face became brighter and brighter, more gorgeous than the bouquet of roses in front of her. She stretched out her hand and waved it in front of his eyes twice. Worried that he didn't hear what she had just said, she repeated, "Xu Yanfeng, Happy New Year."

After a long time, Xu Yanfeng came back to his senses. His throat felt tight and he could hardly make a sound.

Xia Xi tiptoed closer to him: "Don't you have anything to say to me?"

Xu Yanfeng's throat rolled, and he wanted to say something to her: "How come you...are here?" He knew the answer in his heart, but he asked it anyway. Although he tried his best to remain calm, his sluggish voice still revealed his true emotions.

"Don't you know?" He was so smart, Xia Xi didn't believe he couldn't guess it.

Xu Yanfeng remained silent, he just wanted to hear her say it herself.

"I came all the way to South City, of course, to see you and give you New Year's greetings. Otherwise, why would I come?" Xia Xi frankly stated her purpose as he wished, and handed him the rose in her arms, her tone rising, "This is a New Year's gift. I picked it myself. It even has thorns. It suits you very well, doesn't it?"

The rose hit his face, and Xu Yanfeng subconsciously hugged it. Xia Xi freed his hands, took a step back, and took out his phone to check the time: "I bought a return ticket, I have to go now."

Xu Yanfeng asked incredulously: "Now?"

"Yes." Xia Xi put his hands in the pockets of his down jacket, shrugged his shoulders, and looked very calm and satisfied. "I said I came to see you specially. Now that I'm done, I should go home."

If she didn't leave, would she stay to celebrate the New Year? She thought so, but that wasn't realistic. She had to hurry back. Tomorrow was New Year's Day, and she had to kowtow to her elders. It was a rule that couldn't be broken.

She looked at him with a smile, and walked away step by step backwards, her eyes reluctant to leave. She took a hand out of her pocket and waved at him: "See you at the beginning of the school, Xu Yanfeng." She said again, "Happy New Year."

When retreating to the door, Xia Xi didn't pay attention and hit his back against the glass door.

She barely stopped, knowing full well that if she opened the door behind her and walked out, she would no longer be able to see Xu Yanfeng. Suddenly, she felt a little reluctant to leave. Driven by her emotions, she ran towards Xu Yanfeng again, took a handful of candy from her pocket, grabbed Xu Yanfeng's hand, and placed the candy in his palm: "Please have some."

Ever since the family finished buying New Year's goods, candies, nuts, fruits, and snacks were piled everywhere. Almost every pocket of her coat was stuffed with candies. Occasionally, she would find one and peel it and put it in her mouth.

"I'm almost late for the bus. I really have to go."

Xia Xi let go of his hand and stopped walking backwards as she had just done. She turned around and ran, opened the heavy glass door, and plunged into the cold air of South City.

When Xu Yanfeng regained consciousness and clenched the candy in his hand, Xia Xi was no longer in sight.

He chased after her, but the road was sparsely populated with pedestrians and vehicles. He looked around but couldn't find Xia Xi. Everything that had just happened seemed like a brief dream, and it ended abruptly before he could even see the person in the dream.

Xu Yanfeng dialed Xia Xi's number, his movements mixed with a bit of panic. He didn't have Xia Xi's mobile phone number, so he still made a voice call through WeChat.

The call was connected after only three seconds, and Xia Xi's voice came through clearly: "What's the matter?"

"You..." Xu Yanfeng's mind was a little confused, and he lost the ability to organize his words. He didn't know what to say for a moment. He took a deep breath and forced himself to calm down. "Where are you now?"

Xia Xi said "Ah" in confusion: "I took a taxi and rushed to the high-speed rail station."

Xu Yanfeng originally wanted to drive her to the high-speed rail station, but after hearing her answer, he didn't say the rest of the words. He only reminded her: "Be careful on the road. Send me a message or call me when you get home."

Xia Xi on the other end of the phone must have laughed. Her voice changed in tone, sounding unusually cheerful, with each word carrying a hint of meaning: "If I send you a message or call you, will you reply?"

What happened a few days ago is still vivid in my mind. He was so aloof, he didn't reply to my messages, didn't answer my calls, it was like there was a galaxy between us.

Xu Yanfeng heard what she was hinting at and pinched his forehead with his fingers: "I will."

Xia Xi was the most greedy. Upon hearing this, she couldn't help but push further: "But, I won't be home until very late. Will you come back no matter how late it is?"

She was clearly overjoyed, yet she still managed to sound pathetic, trying to soften his heart. She was simply relying on the fact that they were on a voice call, so he couldn't see her expression. If they were on a video call, she definitely wouldn't have dared to laugh so blatantly.

Xu Yanfeng had to ensure that she got home safely, so he agreed without hesitation.

Still feeling it wasn't enough, Xia Xi took the opportunity to make an even more outrageous request: "Then if I text you tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, the day after tomorrow... and call you in the future, will you always reply?"

Xu Yanfeng was not fooled.
