There is no fountain in the South Square tonight, the wind is cool, and the street lights are quiet.
Xia Xi sat on the marble table beside the fountain with her arms folded across her chest. Her two bare legs were straight and together, her heels touching the ground occasionally, and she looked bored.
There was no one around, she was all alone, like a dead leaf fallen from a tree.
But it is clearly spring, a season full of vitality, so where do the dead leaves come from?
Xia Xi pulled her phone from her bag. It was running low on battery, with a pop-up warning that only 20% remained, and the battery icon turned red. She didn't dare call again, fearing that if Xu Yanfeng called her back after turning off his phone, she wouldn't be able to answer.
Damn Xu Yanfeng, he didn’t come to see her last time, she could understand and forgive him, but if he didn’t come this time, she would definitely bite him to death.
Xia Xi looked up and saw a few dim stars hanging in the dark night sky, as if mocking her.
She inhaled, and the coldness spread all the way to her lungs.
My heart also felt cold.
Suddenly, Xia Xi heard footsteps. Before she could turn her gaze, her heartbeat betrayed her emotions, pounding violently like a drum. She stood up and looked towards the source of the sound. A figure ran by without stopping.
Not Xu Yanfeng.
It was a boy who took a shortcut and passed by here, going to the small supermarket in front.
The spark of light in Xia Xi's eyes faded, and her emotions fell back to their lowest point. Her rapid heartbeat gradually stabilized. She sat back down, her upper body bent over, her chest pressing against her legs, and mentally cursed Xu Yanfeng again.
The night wind is getting colder and colder, as if we have returned to winter.
Xia Xi heard the footsteps again. She was very calm, her heart as still as water. She was not as excited as before. She was afraid that her hopes would be dashed again, so she simply gave up her expectations and did not move at all.
The footsteps came closer and stopped in front of her. All she could see was a pair of shoes and a pair of black, straight trousers made of fine material.
It seemed that Xu Yanfeng was wearing trousers when he came to see her today?
Xia Xi raised his eyes in a daze, from bottom to top, across the narrow waist, white shirt, dark blue tie with dark patterns, the protruding Adam's apple above the collar, the clear jawline, and finally the cold face under the light.
She suspected it was a dream and blinked hard, but fortunately the person in front of her did not disappear.
So he is real.
Xia Xi's nose felt sore, and her eyes were also infected, sore and swollen, and soon red. She had always been strong-willed and didn't cry easily. She forced the tears back, her eyes regained their usual clarity, and she looked at him silently.
Xu Yanfeng, holding his suit jacket in his hand, which was almost hanging to the ground, spoke first, but his words were emotionless: "Don't you have something to say to me?"
Xia Xi stood up, but felt that it was not imposing enough, so he used his hands and feet to climb up the marble table of the fountain pool and stood on it.
The half-meter-high platform made her much taller than Xu Yanfeng. She looked like a leader who was about to give a speech, while he was a little kid who needed to look up at her.
"Next time, can you please listen to what someone is saying before you lose your temper and walk off?" Xia Xi complained to him, "Your legs are so long, and I can't catch up with you. I call you but you don't answer, and I don't reply to your messages. What's wrong with you?"
Xu Yanfeng admits that he is not a perfect person. This is the first time that he has been criticized so harshly. However, he actually thinks what she said makes sense and cannot help but reflect on himself.
"If you have the ability, don't change. Let's see if I will pay attention to you next time. I can tolerate everything about you, but I can't encourage your bad habits." Xia Xi became more and more excited as she spoke. Her aura was no longer like that of a leader. Instead, she sounded like a shrewd wife, teaching her husband a lesson for not changing despite repeated warnings.
"What do you mean by not speaking?" Xia Xi frowned.
Xu Yanfeng: "You are right."
Xia Xi paused for a moment, and his anger subsided a lot. Being able to admit his mistakes meant that there was still hope.
Back to business, she asked him condescendingly, "Why don't you believe me?" She didn't want him to answer, and after asking, she continued, "I want to pursue you and be with you because I like you. If it was for a bet, I wouldn't have that much energy, nor would I be so bored. I thought that even if you misunderstood me, you should calm down and believe that my feelings for you are not fake. You are not a piece of wood, can't you feel it? I am very angry and sad now, and I may not have expressed it clearly, so I solemnly emphasize again that I am not pursuing you because of the bet. Do you understand?"
Xu Yanfeng's throat was blocked by something, making it difficult for him to breathe. He opened his arms towards her and said, "You come down first."
Her long hair was blown messy by the wind, and her knees were blown red. She looked shaky, as if she would fall into the fountain pool behind her at any second, even though there was no water in the pool.
"I don't." Xia Xi said stubbornly, "Did you say you were wrong?"
Xu Yanfeng lowered his noble head and admitted his mistake to someone for the first time - he had experienced too many firsts with her.
"I was wrong." He said each word clearly.
Xia Xi was finally satisfied and mercifully forgave him. She jumped down from the platform and threw herself into his arms, where he held her tightly. She hugged him back, a tear melting into his shirt as she spoke forcefully, "You're so mean."
Forgiveness is forgiveness, but her previous anxiety, hesitation, and sadness were all real. She still got angry when she thought about it. She opened her mouth and bit his shoulder through a thin layer of cloth.
She didn't really bite him to death, after all, she couldn't bear to do so. She just left two neat rows of teeth marks on his shoulder.
Xu Yanfeng frowned, pursed his lips, and said nothing. He felt the pain, and also her anger.
The suit fell to the ground at some point. Xu Yanfeng bent down to pick it up, dusted it off, put it on her shoulders, closed the lapels, and took her away.
