It is the beginning of another school year, and a new batch of students has been injected into the campus. Military training has kicked off and is in full swing. Young figures in camouflage uniforms can be seen everywhere, rushing through the tree-lined paths of varying widths and rushing towards the cafeteria.
Xu Yanfeng is already in his fifth year of college. He used to come to school occasionally in the early days, but after finishing important things, he basically doesn't have to come anymore.
Xia Xi lamented that how could they experience the feeling of being in a long-distance relationship even though they were in the same city.
Zhao Lei advised her to be content and not to play the victim in front of these single people, or she would get beaten. She also told her that compared to a real long-distance relationship, they were already happy enough. Xu Yanfeng came to see her whenever he was free. Bystanders could see it most clearly. The longest time they had not seen each other was no more than three days.
After listening to her, Xia Xi thought about it carefully and realized that it was indeed true. He felt relieved immediately.
Xu Yanfeng is about to step down as president of the Student Union. Before leaving, he plans to organize one last event and solicit opinions from everyone in the group.
According to normal procedures, he should have stepped down long ago, but he did such a great job. Whether it was the various rules he established or the management methods, they were all convincing and impeccable. He was also very generous. Whenever there was a collective activity within the company, he would not use public funds, but pay for everyone out of his own pocket, and the standard was very high.
Where can we find another leader like this?
Therefore, with no one to take over his position, he continued to work until his fifth year. Now that he had to retire, he even thoughtfully held an event to formally bid farewell to everyone.
Everyone was very moved and offered their ideas.
There are some new members in the group, who joined this year. Last year, the club recruited new members after National Day, but this year it was earlier. The new members have many ideas and are very enthusiastic to speak up.
Some suggested going on a picnic in the suburbs for team building, some heard from seniors from the previous class that a party was held in the chairman’s private villa and wanted to experience it, and some suggested a self-guided day trip to Tangquan.
Xu Yanfeng was very busy and didn't have much energy to focus on this, so he asked the head of the secretariat to integrate the information and come up with a plan that everyone was relatively satisfied with.
The Secretary General inexplicably had a sense of déjà vu as if he was listening to orders from the big boss. When he thought that Xu Yanfeng would inherit the Xu Group after leaving school, he suddenly felt that this sense of déjà vu was not unreasonable.
After some discussion and weighing of the pros and cons, the director called Xu Yanfeng to report: "There are still more people who like outdoor activities. In the end, we decided to go to Changyan Mountain. The area is developing very well now, with some B&Bs, bars, coffee shops, pottery galleries, etc., which is suitable for group building."
Xu Yanfeng agreed.
The minister said: "There is one downside, because the journey is long, and it takes more than four hours to go there and back. If you go there on the same day, you won't be able to spend much time there."
Xu Yanfeng flipped through the itinerary and replied to the director, "Isn't there a B&B over there? Then book two nights, a total of three days and two nights, to be arranged during the National Day holiday. Please give me a budget."
The minister clenched his fist, cheered secretly, and replied reservedly, "Okay."
Everything was ready, and the minister sent the news to the student union’s group, which immediately caused an uproar.
"Three days and two nights, damn, how is this different from traveling? This local guy has a new understanding of team building."
"All food and lodging included???"
"I bought a ticket to go home for National Day, but I decided to cancel it. I'm just lying around at home anyway, so I might as well take a free trip."
"I'm quitting too."
"As a newbie, I'd like to ask, have the student union's activities always been this high-profile?"
"Hahaha, yes. But this is the last time. With the new chairman, things might not be the same again. So cherish it."
Xia Xi hadn't been active in the group chat, but she had seen all the messages. Just as she was about to chat privately with Xu Yanfeng, his phone rang first, as if by telepathy. Xia Xi answered the call and went to the balcony. She was wearing a sling, and her arm felt a little cold. She placed her hand on it and stroked it. "Hello?"
"Student Union activities, do you want to go?" Xu Yanfeng went straight to the point.
Xia Xi looked down at her toes, smiled, and didn't answer. Instead, she asked him, "Are you going?"
Xu Yanfeng was silent for a moment, thinking she was talking nonsense, but he still replied patiently: "Go." The name of this event was to say goodbye to the members he had worked with. Wouldn't it seem perfunctory if he didn't go?
Xia Xi: "Then why are you asking me? Of course I will go if you go."
Xu Yanfeng was speechless. It turned out that she was waiting for him here.
*
On October 1st, at eight o'clock in the morning, the student union gathered at the school gate.
The new members, excited for their first time at this event, arrived early, squatting or standing, filled with anticipation. The veterans, however, were more discerning, calculating their timing. Pancakes and soy milk in hand, bags slung over their shoulders, they strolled in at a leisurely pace, their chins raised to the new faces, "Why are you all waiting here? It would be much more comfortable to wait in the bus."
The new members were all confused: "Car?"
The Secretary General pointed to the purple bus in the distance and said, "Isn't that the one?"
The bus took up too much space at the school gate, hindering other people from entering and leaving. The minister contacted the driver and asked him to park in the open space south of the school gate. The minister scratched his head and said, "Didn't I tell you in the group?"
New member: "You said you would send a car, but you didn't say which car. We don't know."
"It's my negligence. Get in the car."
At the minister's call, a group of people rushed into the car like swimming fish and found seats on their own.
In order to have a few days of peace and play, Xia Xi rushed to finish her homework for several hours last night. The alarm clock did not wake her up in the morning, so she got up late and did not even have time to eat breakfast. She picked up the backpack she had packed last night and ran to the school gate like a Hot Wheels.
"Sorry, sorry, I'm late." Xia Xi got on the car, took a deep breath, and looked at the time. It was already eight o'clock.
