Chapter 19: Office Robbery

After the holiday, Xia Xi got up early and came out of the room, only to see Su Jinru got up earlier than her and had already prepared breakfast.

"Are you going to work today?" Su Jinru brought red bean porridge, beef patties, and several side dishes to the table one by one.

"Yes, I've already discussed it with the company." Xia Xi sat down, picked up a quarter of a beef patty with chopsticks, put it on the plate in front of him, and lowered his head to eat, "Ziheng and Youyou..."

"You don't have to worry about them. I'll wake them up later and make sure they finish breakfast before sending them to kindergarten." Su Jinru moved in to reduce the burden on her second daughter so that she could concentrate on her work.

"Thank you, Mom." Xia Xi took a bite of pancake and a mouthful of porridge, feeling very happy to have his family around him.

"I'm your mother, what's there to thank me for?" Su Jinru sighed. "If I hadn't needed to take care of your grandmother and your sister earlier, I would have gone abroad with you and helped you raise the children. I wouldn't have left you alone abroad, busy with studies and work, and raising two children."

Speaking of this, Su Jinru couldn't help but feel sad and tearful. Although she hadn't seen it with her own eyes, just thinking about it made her realize how difficult it was for her daughter during those years abroad.

Xia Xi was not one to dwell on the passing of time, so she smiled and comforted her: "It's all in the past, I'm doing fine."

Su Jinru turned sideways and rubbed her eyes quickly. When she turned around to look at her, her expression had returned to normal: "It's all right now. Your sister has her own family. I don't have to worry about it. I can take good care of you."

Xia Xi: "You should also take care of yourself and don't get exhausted."

"I know." Su Jinru said, "But it's not good for you to be single like this. You still need someone to rely on. Mom is old and can't be with you forever."

Xia Xi slowed down the pace of chewing food in her mouth, and alarm bells rang in her heart. She wondered if her mother was going to introduce her to another blind date.

Seeing her daughter stunned, Su Jinru said with a smile, "I'm not asking you to go on a blind date. What happened last time taught me a lesson: you can't judge a person by their appearance. Some people pretend to be good in front of others, but that doesn't mean they are good at heart. My own marriage is a good example. I thought I had found the right person, but in the end, I brought disaster to my family. Mom hopes you will pay more attention. If you find the right person around you, grab it."

Xia Xi secretly breathed a sigh of relief. As long as she was not allowed to go on a blind date, everything would be fine.

After breakfast, Xia Xi went back to her room to change clothes and put on makeup.

When she was applying lipstick, she touched the blood scab at the corner of her lips, which caused a slight pain, bringing her memory back to the night before, that chaotic and hot kiss in the dark... Xia Xi stopped in time, forcing herself to wake up and not think about him anymore.

Xia Xi found some clothes in her closet and changed. Her style was casual: a white T-shirt, a blue striped shirt over it, white jeans, and a black belt around her waist, with the shirt tucked in. Her accessories were simple: silver earrings and a ring, and she carried a light grey Hermès brikin bag.

Xia Xi said hello to Su Jinru, took the car keys and went out.

She left early, her grandmother and two children were still asleep, and there was no traffic jam on the road.

After arriving at the office building, Xia Xi did not go in. Instead, he went to a nearby coffee shop to order a batch of coffee and asked the waiter to deliver it to the 32nd floor of the office building next door later.

There is more than one company, Boya Design, in this office building. Lu Mingji has only rented two floors, the 31st and 32nd floors. He plans to rent a separate building once the company grows bigger - this is Lu Mingji's five-year plan.

When Xia Xi entered, some people were already sitting at their workstations. Unlike ordinary cubicles, there were many rectangular desks placed in the open hall, which everyone could freely combine to facilitate group work.

Xia Xi was wearing flat shoes and walked quietly. The designers who were busy drawing did not notice her, and she did not disturb them. She walked straight to Lu Mingji's office.

After knocking on the door twice and hearing a "come in", she pushed the door open and saw Lu Mingji hiding something under the desk.

Seeing that the person coming was Xia Xi, Lu Mingji hummed, raised his chin to signal her to close the door, and then took out the things hidden under the desk. It was his breakfast.

A sandwich and an iced Americano.

"Have you eaten?" Lu Mingji took a bite of his sandwich. "Why are you here so early?"

Xia Xi put down her bag and sat down on the sofa: "I've eaten at home." She raised her wrist to look at the watch. It was a quarter past eight, a bit early.

While eating, Lu Mingji talked to her about several projects the company was currently undertaking, which were basically progressing steadily.

"The domestic environment is like this. Large industrial projects like ours, a small company that's only been operating for a year, are hard to come by. Last year, the library you designed became a huge hit, and it seemed like you were all the rage. But in reality, not many people really pay attention to the design behind a popular building, so it's hard to get your name out there."

Xia Xi agreed with this point.

Lu Mingji concluded: "Overall, we've taken on more home renovations..."

Xia Xi: "What do you want to say?"

Lu Mingji smiled like an old fox. "I'm just worried that you might not like me, my junior. Most of the projects you took on abroad were industrial projects, big projects like technology company office buildings, big hotels, guesthouses, university teaching buildings, and the like. You get paid a lot."

"Don't play the emotional card." Xia Xi reminded him calmly, "Have you forgotten that this is not your company alone?"

Lu Mingji stopped laughing and said, "Oh yes, I really forgot if you hadn't mentioned it. It's all your fault for not returning home. You've made me fight alone in China."

The two chatted for a while, and when everyone outside had almost arrived, Lu Mingji stood up, straightened his clothes, and walked out from behind the desk: "Let's go, I'll introduce you to the others."
