Chapter 198 Do you want to stay at the apartment tonight?

Xu Yanfeng had prepared himself mentally, so when Xu Guanshan criticized him harshly, he remained calm.

"How important is today's meeting? Do I need to lecture you? Look at your attitude towards this meeting. You're so impatient and irritable. You've grown old, but you've become even more unruly!"

Unable to contain his anger, Xu Guanshan picked up the documents on the desk and threw them over.

Flakes of paper blew across Xu Yanfeng's face, falling to the floor and scattering. He didn't even blink, like a wooden man, waiting for his father to vent his anger.

The secretary, unaware of the situation, knocked on the door with a stack of documents requiring approval. The chairman angrily shouted, "Get lost!" The secretary, terrified, left without even a second's pause.

Xu Guanshan rarely lost his temper like this. He was very strict with Xu Yanfeng, but he also had a fatherly tolerance, not much, just a little. He was too tolerant because he was afraid that Xu Yanfeng would not be careful enough and forget the responsibility he should shoulder as the heir.

Xu Guanshan supported his several-meter-wide gray slate desk with one hand, the wrinkles between his brows deepening. His voice was as resonant as a bell: "Tell me, what's so important that you're constantly distracted during meetings?"

Xu Yanfeng didn't explain. While checking and replying to messages, he listened to the meeting verbatim. Multitasking might be difficult for others, but it was easy for him.

But he was not good at explaining to his father, and he never explained to his father, allowing him to misunderstand.

Xu Yanfeng said in a calm tone: "It's something about school."

Xu Guanshan's face turned even uglier, and he snorted coldly, "As far as I know, you've already completed both finance and law. You're a fifth-year student at the School of Architecture this year. What can you possibly do? Stop trying to fool me."

Some fathers don't even know what school their children attend, what major they study, or what stage they are in. In this regard, Xu Guanshan deserves praise for his full understanding of Xu Yanfeng's academic situation.

Xu Yanfeng remained silent, and the father and son parted ways unhappily again.

After leaving the office, Xu Yanfeng hooked his fingers into the knot of his tie, loosened it slightly, exhaled a heavy breath, and dialed Xia Xi's number.

Xia Xi was in class when her phone suddenly vibrated. Startled, she quickly rejected the call, switched to WeChat, and sent him a message: "I'm in class, baby."

Only then did Xu Yanfeng notice the time. She had a long construction practice class in the morning and the class was not over yet.

So he could only wait until she finished her class and called him.

"Hello, I just got out of class." Xia Xi didn't even leave the classroom. As soon as the professor left the podium, she called Xu Yanfeng back and stood up. The wooden chair behind her automatically bounced up. With one hand, she sorted the textbooks on the table, put them in her bag, and lifted it over her shoulder. With the other hand, she held up her phone and said as she walked, "Don't you have a meeting this morning?"

"It's over." Xu Yanfeng paused and got to the point, "The posts in Tieba..."

Before he finished speaking, Xia Xi asked in surprise: "You saw it too?!"

"Chen Mian told me."

"Just mind your own business and don't interfere. They're coming for me, and I'm going to handle this myself," Xia Xi said, her voice rubbing with anticipation. "Someone's trying to spice up my boring campus life, so I'll just treat it as some fun."

Xu Yanfeng's prepared words of comfort were useless. He shook his head and laughed. He had never met anyone more optimistic than Xia Xi. Others would have cried a hundred times in such a situation, then panicked and lost. But she, on the other hand, acted like she was playing some kind of challenge game, her fighting spirit aroused.

After the two of them finished talking on the phone, Xu Yanfeng did not completely listen to her words and ignored it. He thought for a moment and called the secretary of the student union. He was the one who booked the homestay and he had the owner's contact information.

B&Bs generally have surveillance cameras installed, but he didn't know if they could capture the person taking the secret photos. He called the B&B owner and made his request directly.

Because it happened a few days ago, the video footage was preserved and it was not difficult to check. The B&B owner agreed to help him retrieve the surveillance footage, but told him in advance that there was no guarantee that it would be recorded.

Xu Yanfeng thanked his boss and started to deal with the tasks at hand, hoping to finish them as soon as possible and go find Xia Xi.

*

When they were having dinner together in the evening, Xia Xi didn't mention what she was going to do. She treated the matter as if it didn't exist and continued to eat and drink. She also ordered a bottle of white wine. As she tasted the delicious mussels and took a sip of the refreshing wine, her eyebrows went up.

She said, "You need to drive and can't drink, so I won't pour it for you."

Before Xu Yanfeng could speak, she changed her mind: "Let's drink a little and find a designated driver later."

She picked up the bottle and poured him half a glass, then raised her own goblet, raised her eyebrows, and signaled him with her eyes.

Xu Yanfeng smiled faintly, picked up his cup and clinked it with hers. The glass made a crisp sound when it collided. He took a sip and said without mentioning the spoiler, "Do you want to stay at the apartment tonight?"

Xia Xi coughed and subconsciously touched her chin. Luckily, no wine had leaked out. She looked across at Xu Yanfeng, her large eyes reflecting the light of the crystal lamp, delicate and soft, like the shimmering waves of a lake under the sun.

Is that what she meant?

Her cheeks were slightly red, most likely because she was drunk, not because of shyness. She almost couldn't resist the temptation. The second before she agreed, she sobered up: "Not today, I have something to do today."

She felt a little sad when she said this. Xu Yanfeng took the initiative to ask her to spend the night with him, but she actually refused!

Wait, is he going to misunderstand again? Xia Xi quickly raised her hand and said, "I'm not going to cherish it now that I have it. I really have something to do."

The person who choked on the wine was Xu Yanfeng. He had just made a joke, but she took it to heart and kept mentioning it.
