Xia Xi came out of the elevator carrying two large bags. The ward was on the left side of the elevator, so she turned left directly and didn't notice a tall black figure in the elevator on the right.
As the elevator door closed, the figure disappeared.
Entering the ward, Xia Xi spotted several gift boxes piled together. As she approached, she saw they were beautifully wrapped boxes of fruit and high-end nutritional supplements. "Is anyone here to visit Grandma?"
They had no relatives in South City. Even if they did, they wouldn't have known that their grandmother had been hospitalized with a broken bone.
The nurse said: "It's a..."
Grandma's voice drowned out the nurse's, and she spoke first: "There's an old lady in our building. We took a walk together before. She heard that I was in the hospital, so she asked my family to send her to see me. She just left."
The nurse closed her mouth, looking puzzled. She was clearly a handsome young person with a strong aura, so how did she become an old lady?
While Xia Xi wasn't looking over, grandma gave the nurse a look.
Although the nurse didn't understand grandma's intention, she still helped to cover up for her: "Ah, yes."
Xia Xi didn't doubt it. She took the daily necessities out of the plastic bag and put them away. She smiled and said, "I didn't know that grandma had made friends in the community. That's great. When your leg is fully healed, go out and participate in more activities. You will feel much better."
Grandma responded in a trance.
Xia Xi packed two dinners from a restaurant outside, a light one for her grandmother and ordered cheese, mushroom and beef risotto and kelp and tofu soup for herself.
She stayed by the bedside at night so that the nurse could go back to rest.
Grandma drank the bland porridge and craved her beef risotto. Xia Xi only gave her two spoonfuls and refused to give her more: "Heavy oil and salt are not suitable for you. When you are discharged from the hospital, I will take you to a restaurant to eat."
Grandma chewed the beef with her mouth flat, and suddenly said, "It tastes really average, not as good as your Uncle Cao's cooking."
Xia Xi's hand, gripping the disposable spoon, froze. Uncle Cao was the head chef at the Pei Shan Hotel, renowned for his culinary skills. Grandma had put a lot of thought into recruiting him.
Grandma was thinking about the old days.
Seeing Xia Xi's stunned expression, grandma waved her hand and said, "I just said it casually." Grandma changed the subject and said, "Call the nurse and ask her to stay here tonight. Xixi, listen to grandma and go back. I can't let you rest. You still have work to do."
Xia Xi drank a mouthful of tofu soup and ate the food in her mouth: "Grandma, tomorrow is the weekend."
"You don't get any days off in this job. You're always so busy."
“It doesn’t matter where you work.”
After dinner, Xia Xi washed some fruit for her grandmother, cut it into small pieces and put it in a bowl. Her grandmother held the bowl and ate slowly while she went to call Huang Shiyu.
Huang Shiyu was working overtime at the company. Xia Xi knew her address and was on her way to the hospital: "Please bring my laptop after get off work and call me when you arrive." She left in a hurry in the morning and only took her cell phone with her.
"Okay." Huang Shiyu took note and asked her carefully, "How are your family matters going? Um... you don't have to tell me if it's inconvenient."
"Nothing. My grandma fell and has to stay in the hospital for a few days." Xia Xi said simply, and then she crossed her arms in front of her, supporting her elbows, and asked about work. "Have the people from Xu's company reviewed the design plan? Do they have any questions?"
This design was hers alone. The other team members didn't have a deep understanding of her design philosophy and couldn't help, so she had to handle many things herself. Collaboration with Xu was crucial, directly linked to future development, and no mistakes could be made.
Huang Shiyu reported seriously: "Boss Wang Xiao has taken a look at it. He has no objection for now, but he said he would give it to Boss Xu for review."
At 7:30 in the evening, Huang Shiyu passed by the hospital after get off work and brought Xia Xi's computer over.
Xia Xi asked her to take a taxi back and she would reimburse the fare.
Huang Shiyu waved goodbye to her and obediently hailed a taxi.
The temperature was very low at night, and the damp cold wind seeped into her bones. Xia Xi carried her computer back to the ward and saw her grandmother throwing off the quilt to get out of bed. She quickly put the computer down and went to help her.
Grandma supported herself on the edge of the bed with one hand: "I want to go to the bathroom."
"Just call me, and don't move around on your own."
Xia Xi helped her sit in the wheelchair, pushed her to the bathroom, helped her go to the toilet, and washed up briefly, then pushed her back to the bed, carefully helped her lie down on the bed, and tucked her in.
My grandmother had always been strong-willed. After my grandfather passed away, she, still young, relied on her braised food skills to set up a stall to support herself and her daughter, earning a living. Later, a family tragedy struck, and she fell seriously ill. While she wasn't completely devastated, her health wasn't as good as it once was. Now, even simple things like going to the bathroom require help, and she feels bad.
Xia Xi understood her grandmother's temperament and advised her not to think too much. If she didn't look at anything else, she should just look at the elderly people in the inpatient department. There were many people whose conditions were worse than hers, but they were all just getting by.
After settling her grandmother down, Xia Xi sat on a chair beside the bed, turned on the computer and placed it on her legs, lowering her head and concentrating on looking at the facade model on the screen.
Grandma slept for a long time during the day and couldn't fall asleep for a while, so she tilted her head and looked at her.
Xia Xi was busy for nearly an hour. When she looked up, she saw that her grandmother's eyes were still open and she looked very energetic. She closed the computer, held her hand and talked to her: "Grandma, what are you thinking about?"
Grandma said frankly: "I wonder when I can see you wearing a wedding dress and getting married. I don't know if I can ever see it again."
Xia Xi: “…”
If we talk about this, Xia Xi is speechless. After holding it in for a long time, she finally said something in anger: "Why are you just like my mom? I thought you were more open-minded than my mom."
