Chapter 239 Grandma is gone

He didn't send a message to Xia Xi in the end. Firstly, he hadn't thought of what to say, and secondly, it was too late.

Xu Yanfeng didn't sleep the whole night. Early the next morning, before dawn, he changed his clothes, washed his face in the bathroom, went out, took the elevator downstairs, and went to the parking lot.

Holding the car door handle, Xu Yanfeng suddenly remembered that he had drunk a lot of alcohol last night and the alcohol might not have been completely metabolized in his body, so he called the driver and asked him to come over.

The driver was a little confused. He looked at the time and it was almost six o'clock.

According to normal working hours, Mr. Xu has never left home so early, not to mention that today is the weekend.

The driver thought there was another temporary schedule and rushed there as fast as he could.

Sitting in the driver's seat, the driver asked Xu Yanfeng where he was going.

Xu Yanfeng pinched his brows and said the name of a kindergarten - Yucai Kindergarten.

The driver was confused and drove to the kindergarten without asking any questions.

The car stopped on the side of the road across from the kindergarten. Xu Yanfeng didn't move, but turned his head to look out the window. The left window faced the kindergarten entrance. The gate was closed, and the walls were brightly colored. Through the crack in the door, he could see a lush green lawn, an elephant-shaped slide, a giraffe swing, and a football left in the corner.

The wait was a bit long, so the driver got out of the car to smoke a cigarette.

From half past six to eight o'clock, the sun gradually rises, and the golden sunlight hits the wall, making the color brighter.

The driver got back in the car. Xu Yanfeng glanced down at his watch. It was already five minutes past eight. He waited anxiously, feeling a sense of homesickness. "What time does kindergarten usually start? Eight-thirty or nine?"

If it was half past eight, some parents should have dropped off their children by this time, but he didn't see a single person.

The driver didn't let his inner speechlessness show on his face: "Mr. Xu, today is Saturday, and the children don't have school."

Xu Yanfeng: “…”

The air was quiet for a few seconds, and Xu Yanfeng slowly pulled out his phone. He hadn't charged it last night, so it only had a few percent left. The screen clearly showed that today was indeed Saturday.

Even if he waited here for a whole day, he would not see the child.

He couldn't just rush to Xia Xi's house.

Pressing his eyelids with his fingertips, Xu Yanfeng placed his phone screen upside down on his lap and told the driver, "Go to the company."

*

Xia Xi woke up very early in the morning, and her grandmother was still asleep. She didn't make any noise for fear of waking her grandmother up, and sat quietly to deal with the unread messages on her mobile phone.

Half an hour ago, Huang Shiyu sent her a message: "Sister Xi, Mr. Xu has reviewed the design plan and has a few comments to discuss with you in person. You have to go to Xu's at 10 o'clock."

Xia Xi rubbed his forehead. Xu Yanfeng had definitely done this on purpose. It was fine for him to force people to work overtime on a weekend, but he had also given the order so early in the morning. It was hard to say if this wasn't a spur-of-the-moment decision.

Xia Xi: "Okay, I understand."

Huang Shiyu: "Sister Xi, you got up so early?"

Xia Xi: "Yeah."

Grandma woke up, Xia Xi put down her phone and helped her wash up.

The old lady loved cleanliness, so Xia Xi used a comb to comb her silver hair smoothly, and then put on her favorite tortoiseshell headband.

The doctor came to check on her and asked a few routine questions. There was nothing wrong. After the doctor left, Xia Xi started to prepare breakfast for her grandmother: "Grandma, what would you like to eat in the morning?"

Grandma thought about it and realized that she was being too demanding: "I miss Ganlin's snacks."

Xia Xi searched on her phone and found a store, but it was far away and out of the delivery range. "I'll buy it for you when the nurse comes. I'll make sure you have it. Or how about we eat something else first? We'll be waiting a long time, and I don't want you to go hungry."

"Then have some porridge." Grandma looked much better than yesterday.

Xia Xi bought some health-promoting porridge and watched her grandmother finish it. After the nurse arrived and someone was looking after her grandmother, she took the car keys and went out.

After getting in the car, she called Su Jinru first. Before she opened her mouth, Su Jinru asked about her grandmother's health.

"The doctor came to see her, and she's doing fine. She ate a big bowl of porridge and wants some of Gan Lin's snacks. I'll go get them for her now." Xia Xi explained in great detail, "Please bring Ziheng and Youyou over. Grandma will probably feel much better when she sees them. Don't forget to make them wear masks. There are a lot of germs in the hospital, especially in the inpatient department, where we have all kinds of patients."

"We'll go after breakfast." Su Jinru said, "The two children were complaining last night about not seeing their great-grandmother."

"Tell Xiaoxuan too, she doesn't know yet."

The situation was urgent yesterday, and considering Xia Xuan's health, I didn't dare tell her. Today, grandma's condition has stabilized, and I should let her know, so that she won't feel guilty when she finds out about this in the future.

Xia Xi thought everything through, and Su Jinru listened to her.

The trip, including the waiting time, took Xia Xi nearly two hours to get back to the hospital. It wasn't easy, so she bought some extra so her mother could try some too.

When she came out of the shop, she took a bite of each item. They were authentic Ganlin snacks and tasted exactly the same as those sold in her hometown.

Take the elevator up and turn left. The second room is the ward where grandma is staying. The door is wide open and suppressed crying sounds can be heard from inside. Xia Xi's heart tightened. She had a bad feeling and quickened her pace to run in.

Xia Xi did not see her grandmother lying on the hospital bed. Xia Xuan was crying while hugging her two children. Her husband Chen Songbai was by her side, patting her shoulders and whispering comforting words.

Xia Xi's face turned pale. She didn't wear any makeup, so it was particularly obvious: "Where's grandma?"

Xia Xuan stood up with tears on her face and shouted, "Sister..." She couldn't say anything else.

Youyou wiped her tears with the back of her hand, crying until her voice was hoarse: "They said great-grandmother died. Mom, when people die, will they never open their eyes or speak again? Can great-grandmother please not die? I want her to play with me."
