The next day, the alarm rang. Xia Xi nudged Ziheng, who was sleeping soundly, and said, "Get up and go to school."
The child did have some insomnia last night and slept later than usual. In the past, he would have woken up before the alarm went off.
Ziheng rubbed his sleepy eyes, did not stay in bed, and climbed out of the quilt.
"Didn't you sleep well?" Xia Xi tidied up his messy hair.
"Hmm." Ziheng yawned, his eyes narrowed into slits.
Xia Xi went to the bathroom first and squeezed toothpaste for the child.
After a while, Ziheng came over and asked her to step aside while he went to the bathroom.
Afterwards, the mother and son stood side by side in front of the washbasin, brushing their teeth. Xia Xi finished washing her face and wiped his face with a hot towel: "Change your clothes and go out and wait for me. I still have to put on makeup."
Ziheng changed his clothes and walked out of the room carrying his schoolbag.
The living room was empty; the nanny was cooking in the kitchen, and Ziheng was dozing off on the sofa. The door clicked, and he straightened himself up. Glancing over, he saw a man in black sportswear enter. His hair was damp, and beads of sweat covered his fair face; he must have been out for exercise.
"Awake?" Xu Yanfeng changed his shoes and raised his chin towards the child who was sitting upright. "Where's your mother?"
Ziheng pretended not to hear him and lowered his head to check if he had brought everything in his schoolbag.
Xu Yanfeng was in a calm state of mind and went into the bathroom to wash his face.
Ten minutes later, the family of three sat at the dining table and had breakfast.
Ziheng took a bite of the bun and, while consuming his porridge, looked at Xu Yanfeng and then at Xia Xi. The next second, Xu Yanfeng picked up a fried egg for Xia Xi and said lightly, "Replenish your protein."
Xia Xi pursed her lips and uttered a single word: "I..."
She was about to say "I can pick it up myself", but she didn't want to make things awkward with Xu Yanfeng in front of the child, so she reluctantly endured it, picked up the fried egg with chopsticks and took a bite, and when Ziheng wasn't paying attention, she gave Xu Yanfeng a warning look.
She understood that he wanted to portray the image of a loving father in front of his children, but there was no need to act like that.
Xu Yanfeng seemed not to notice her hint and picked up a fried egg for Ziheng as well.
Ziheng followed his mother's lead and ate the fried egg.
The cooperation between mother and son laid the foundation for Xu Yanfeng's good mood for the rest of the day.
After dinner, Xu Yanfeng asked Xia Xi, "Should I take Ziheng to school, or should you?"
"I'll take it."
Xia Xi didn't have much to bring today, so she slung a small bag over her shoulder, carried her schoolbag in her left hand, and held Ziheng's hand with her right hand as she went out.
Xu Yanfeng caught up with them. He had changed into a formal suit and tied a dark red tie. His stern face looked a little gentler and even a little charming.
In the sedan, there were two adults, one on the left and one on the right, with Ziheng in the middle.
Xu Yanfeng stared at the image reflected on the mirror-clear elevator door, his eyes gradually lost focus and his thoughts drifted away. He had once imagined such a scene, and now it had come true, but it was far from the scene he had imagined.
In his fantasy, he and Xia Xi should be very loving and have a child. The three of them would go out together in the morning, each of them would be busy in their own areas during the day, and then go home together in the evening to chat about interesting topics.
The elevator made a "ding" sound, and Xu Yanfeng's eyes flashed, and his thoughts returned to normal.
Xia Xi put her schoolbag in the car first, then turned around and asked Ziheng to get in.
Ziheng climbed in and sat down. Just as Xia Xi was about to close the door, a hand blocked her way. Xia Xi looked up at the owner of the hand, her eyes filled with confusion. What did he want to do?
Xu Yanfeng found a perfect excuse for his behavior: "After thinking about it, I decided to go with you to send him off. By the way, let Teacher Song get to know me better, so that the teacher won't be forgotten when I go to pick him up next time."
Xia Xi had a stern face. Didn’t he think what he said was funny?
Xu Yanfeng sat next to Ziheng: "Let's go."
Even though she knew his words didn't make sense, Xia Xi still had to explain: "Teacher Song's memory wouldn't be that bad."
Xu Yanfeng ignored her, leaned out half of his body, held her hand on the car door, moved it away, and closed the door: "The child will be late for school, don't dawdle."
Xia Xi clenched his fists.
Ziheng looked at the man who was very close to him, unable to understand what he was thinking, so he simply turned his face away and closed his eyes to catch up on his sleep.
After sending Ziheng off, Xia Xi had to rush to the company. She didn't have much time to waste. She stared at the man inside the car through the car window. After three seconds, she gave up and sat in the driver's seat.
Xu Yanfeng's lips twitched slightly: "How about I drive?"
Xia Xi frowned and responded, "No, no."
Every word was filled with resentment.
Xu Yanfeng raised his eyebrows and leaned back in his chair with interest. It was better for her to be angry than to be emotionless.
At the entrance of the kindergarten, parents were sending their children to school in groups of three or four. When Xia Xi got out of the car, Xu Yanfeng followed him out.
It was the first time that Teacher Song saw such a good-looking family. Her eyes widened. Until Xia Xi led the children to them, handed Ziheng to her, and asked, "Is Zhou Leyi here?"
"Here he is, here he is. Your sister brought it here." Teacher Song said with a smile, "He's playing inside."
Xia Xi half squatted down and pinched her son's cheek: "Go find your sister. Remember to comfort her. I heard from your aunt that she cried a lot yesterday."
Ziheng sighed: "She doesn't need any comfort at all. A cup of milk tea will do the trick right there."
Xia Xi smiled, stood up and said goodbye to Teacher Song.
Xu Yanfeng was one step faster than her, walking straight to the car, opening the driver's door and getting in. Xia Xi frowned and hurried after him. Since the child was not there, she didn't have to worry: "Xu Yanfeng, this is my car!"
