At five o'clock, Zhou Du ended the broadcast, crossed his hands and raised them above his head, stretching his muscles and bones that had become stiff from sitting for so long, and then he picked up the phone on the table and took a look.
A few minutes ago, Xia Xi sent him a message saying that she was not done yet and would come to pick up the child later.
Zhou Du typed a few words and replied, "Go ahead and do your thing."
He threw down his phone and walked over lazily to check on the two children.
The two kids finished a Doraemon Lego set that he had spent a month on and off building but still couldn't finish in an afternoon. They placed it in the middle of the coffee table. He bent over to take a closer look and tapped Doraemon on the head: "You two are quite amazing."
Youyou crunched the crispy shrimp chips and pointed at Ziheng: "Brother put it together. I'll be in charge of supervision."
Zhou Du squeezed in and sat down between them, put his arms around Ziheng's neck, and hugged him close to him: "I still have several boxes of Lego in the warehouse, why don't you build them all for me?"
"Not today. I'm tired." Ziheng answered seriously, "Let's talk about it next time."
Zhou Du smiled and pinched his cheek. This kid looked quite similar to his biological father at certain moments, especially when he pursed his lips and had a serious face.
Zhou Du's assistant was working on the other side of the living room. He had just finished, closed his computer, stood up, walked over, and reported to Zhou Du: "Brother Du, you're on the trending search, on several platforms."
Zhou Du paused and asked, "Is everything okay?"
"Don't worry, I'm watching. It's not negative," the assistant said. "You were livestreaming to clarify you were a father, and someone recorded it and posted it. I guess it was hilarious, so it went viral."
"As long as nothing happened," Zhou Du felt relieved and leaned back on the sofa.
Assistant: "I don't have anything to do next. So, brother, I'm going back first."
Zhou Du: "Be careful on the road."
After the assistant left, there was only one adult and two children left at home.
Zhou Du asked the two children: "Are you hungry? If you are hungry, your godfather will give you something to eat."
Ziheng remembered his mother saying she would pick them up around five o'clock. He glanced at his watch and saw it was already ten past five. He looked up and asked Zhou Du, "Godfather, why hasn't my mother come yet?"
"Oh, I almost forgot to tell you." Zhou Du crossed his long legs, took out the remote control from behind him and turned on the TV. "Your mother just sent me a message. She's not done with her work yet. She'll come over later."
Ziheng said "Oh" sensibly: "I'm not in a hurry."
Zhou Du asked again: "Are you hungry?"
Ziheng shook his head, thought for a moment, and patted Zhou Du's sleeve: "Let's wait for Mom to come over and have dinner together."
"Alright."
Zhou Du picked out a science fiction film that both adults and children could watch and watched it with them.
Both children watched with great interest. More than an hour passed and then the doorbell rang.
Youyou stood up slowly: "It's mom!"
Zhou Du went to open the door in his slippers and leaned against it like a boneless person.
Xia Xi stood outside the door, wearing a white shirt, vintage blue jeans, and a dark brown coat. Birkin in hand, she gave him a tired smile and explained why she was so late: "I should have arrived twenty minutes ago, but I got stuck in traffic."
As soon as she finished speaking, two little guys rushed out of the room and shouted "Mom" in a crisp voice.
The tiredness on Xia Xi's face suddenly disappeared, and she squatted down to hug them.
"Come in quickly." Zhou Du tilted his head. "No need to explain to me. I'm fine anyway. I can even take care of the child for two more days, let alone an extra hour or two."
Xia Xi smiled and went into the house to change into slippers.
Zhou Du poured a glass of warm water and handed it to her, then picked up his phone to check how long it would take for the takeaway to arrive.
"I ordered a few dishes. They'll be delivered in about ten minutes. Can I eat before I leave?"
"Okay." Xia Xi didn't hesitate to drink half a glass of water and collapsed on the sofa like Ge You. She pinched her shoulders and yelled, "Ah, my shoulders are so sore."
After hearing this, Ziheng knelt down on the sofa and massaged her shoulders without saying a word.
Not willing to be outdone, Youyou squatted down and massaged her legs, while asking caringly: "Mom, are you feeling well?"
"Mm, it feels so good." Xia Xi praised, "The strength is just right."
Zhou Du looked at this scene and laughed: "Xia Xi, you are really good."
"What's wrong?" Xia Xi raised her eyebrows. "If you have the ability, you can have a baby too."
Zhou Du bared his teeth: "Thank you, I don't have the ability."
After chatting and laughing for a while, the takeaway arrived and Zhou Du dragged his feet to pick it up.
He ordered seven or eight dishes, each of which was small in portion. To make the dishes look better, he took a few plates from the kitchen and poured the dishes from the takeaway boxes onto the plates and arranged them.
"It's time to eat."
Zhou Du called out, and Xia Xi in the living room moved, stood up lazily, took the two children to the bathroom to wash their hands, and then went to the dining room.
"You don't usually eat takeout, do you?" Xia Xi ate the tender fish fillet and chatted, "Why don't you hire a nanny to cook at home? It's healthier than eating takeout."
"As expected of a mother, you keep nagging."
"screw you."
The meal was spent chatting, and Xia Xi helped wash the dishes.
After sitting down and resting for a while, seeing that it was almost eight o'clock, Xia Xi stood up and said goodbye: "I have agreed with the two children to go to the amusement park tomorrow, so I have to go back to the hotel to rest."
Zhou Du didn't try to keep them and sent them downstairs.
Xia Xi shook the phone in her hand and said, "Go ahead, the car we called will be at the gate of the community in three minutes."
"Message me when you get there."
Zhou Du waved his hand and walked back with his hands in his pockets. Suddenly, his cell phone rang. It was his assistant calling. He didn't rush into the elevator and answered the call in the lobby.
