Xia Xi glanced casually around the room and met Xu Yanfeng's eyes as he sat on the sofa.
She shoved her hands into her coat pockets, her face calm, but her fingers gradually tightened. She averted her gaze and coughed softly, thinking about how to break the silence. Xu Yanfeng spoke first: "Are you done with work?"
Xia Xi nodded, still turning her head away and not looking at him.
The heating was on in the room, and Xia Xi felt a little hot. She took off her coat and hung it on the floor-standing clothes rack next to her. She walked over slowly, put down her bag, and sat on the sofa not far from Xu Yanfeng.
She lowered her head slightly, her long hair falling down, covering half of her face. Xu Yanfeng couldn't see her expression clearly, so he asked directly, "Why?"
Worried that she wouldn't understand, Xu Yanfeng explained more clearly: "Why did you team up with Zhou Du to put on such a show for me?"
Xia Xi pursed her lips. During dinner, the lipstick on her lips had been rubbed off, and her lips had turned white from being pursed.
She was unsure and didn't know how much Zhou Du had said to Xu Yanfeng, so it was difficult for her to perform.
She believed that Zhou Du would not take the initiative to explain to Xu Yanfeng, but Xu Yanfeng had been in the business world for many years and was very meticulous. Zhou Du was no match for him. Maybe he would trick her into telling the truth in just a few words without even realizing it.
"Is this question so difficult to answer? Why do you need to think about it for so long?" Xu Yanfeng stared at her with a scrutinizing look, and asked word by word, "Are you thinking about how to make up a lie?"
Xia Xi: “…”
Before she said anything, Xu Yanfeng accused her of lying.
No wonder Zhou Du was so upset.
Xia Xi raised her eyelids and looked at him, not realizing that there was a hint of caution in her eyes. She had always been bold and decisive, never so timid.

His voice was very soft, a hundred times gentler than when he was talking to Zhou Du.
He already knew that Xia Xi had not betrayed him, and that her relationship with Zhou Du was just a fake show. She had never loved anyone else.
He didn't know if she had met someone she liked in the six years since they were apart. He was inclined to think that she hadn't.
Xia Xi was silent for a long time.
She knew she couldn't avoid it, so she carefully chose her words, speaking so slowly that she almost spoke two words at a time: "Because I want to break up with you."
Xu Yanfeng: “?”
Once the beginning was made, the rest of the story flowed much more smoothly. Xia Xi spoke quickly, taking a deep breath: "I was afraid I wouldn't be able to separate them, so I asked Zhou Du to play along with me and put on a show to make you give up."
The silent person became Xu Yanfeng.
He seemed to have heard a very bad joke. He pulled the corners of his lips, but couldn't laugh at all. His tone was mocking: "Do you think I will believe it?"
Xia Xi picked his fingers unconsciously. When people are at a loss, they always want to find something to do.
"Xia Xi, you still refuse to tell me the truth, right?" Xu Yanfeng seemed a little angry, but he didn't give her a cold face. His eyes were just a little indifferent. "Why do you want to break up with me? You admitted last night that you were sincere when we were together."
Xia Xi's tongue pressed against his teeth, and he felt an inexplicable sense of powerlessness.
She felt like her language organization system had gone on strike: "I..."
He talked about the word "I" for a long time but couldn't come up with a decent explanation.
To prevent her from playing dirty, Xu Yanfeng stopped her from saying anything in advance: "Once you admit something, you can't take it back. Don't try to pretend it didn't happen."
Xia Xi's temples jumped, and he changed the subject: "Weren't you drunk last night?"
Xu Yanfeng sneered: "I have a good memory, I didn't lose any memory."
Xia Xi was speechless.
"Don't believe it?" Xu Yanfeng said slowly, "Do you need me to help you review every detail of last night?"
He deliberately emphasized the pronunciation of the four words "bit by bit".
"No need!" Xia Xi didn't want to recall last night.
"Xia Xi, don't change the subject, answer my question properly."
Xu Yanfeng was extremely clear-headed and was not fooled by her.
"There's no big reason, I just want to break up."
"Don't you like me anymore? Are you tired of me? Or are you worried that I won't take responsibility if you get pregnant?" Xu Yanfeng listed reasons for her.
"At that time..." Even if it was a lie, Xia Xi didn't want to say a bad word about him. She denied the last point he listed, "I didn't even know I was pregnant."
After hearing her rule out the latter option, leaving only the former, Xu Yanfeng couldn't believe it: "Is it because you don't like me anymore and are tired of me?"
Xu Yanfeng went over everything she had said. So, she was sincere when she was with him, but later on, she didn't like him anymore and was worried that he would become obsessed with her, so she came up with that method to completely cut off ties with him.
Is it possible?
It was ridiculous everywhere, and he didn't think Xia Xi would choose to deal with things this way.
He even thought that maybe she didn't want to drag him down because of the series of troubles in her family, but that didn't fit her character either.
Xu Yanfeng frowned. He clearly saw the road in the fog, but there was a missing section in the middle.
"That's it, there's no other reason." Xia Xi really didn't want to talk to him anymore. She stood up and looked out the window. "When I was pursuing you, it was because I liked you, and we were together sincerely. Later... later I realized we weren't suitable, and I didn't like you that much anymore."
Xu Yanfeng raised his head, his Adam's apple moved, and asked seriously, "What's wrong?"
"Can you please stop asking?"
