Xia Xi didn't dare to get close. She stopped half a meter away from the bed, her lips stretched into a straight line. After a long while, she blinked and turned to look at Tang Yizhuo.
"What did the doctor say?" Xia Xi tried her best to control her voice and not tremble too much. "How could he have been in a car accident?"
Tang Yizhou scratched the skin on the back of his neck and spoke the lines he had prepared in advance smoothly: "Xu Er and I had an appointment to discuss something this afternoon. He drove to see me. When we passed a T-junction, a car suddenly lost control and hit us. It happened to hit the back seat, where Xu Er was sitting."
Xia Xi's throat choked and she stared at him blankly.
Based on his description, she could imagine the scene, which should be serious.
"It's just bad luck." Tang Yizhou frowned and sighed, "But don't worry, Xu Er's car is durable. He just has a concussion, it's not that serious, and he will probably wake up soon. But the doctor recommends that he stay in bed for a while and not move around, otherwise he will easily get dizzy."
Xia Xi pursed her lips, her emotions not relaxing at all because of his words: "Doesn't he have any other injuries?"
"Some minor injuries, nothing serious."
In order to give them some space to be alone, Tang Yizhou didn't stay in the ward for too long. After saying what he needed to say, he pointed to the door and said, "You stay here. I have something else to do, so I'll leave first."
To avoid being caught, Tang Yizhou added, "Don't notify Xu Er's family yet. I'm afraid his mother can't handle it."
Tang Yizhou left, and Xia Xi slowly turned his head and looked at the person on the hospital bed.
It was so quiet all around. Xu Yanfeng lay there motionless, looking as if he wasn't breathing. Xia Xi paused for a few seconds, then walked over, staring at his face. She stretched out her hand, but hesitated to let it go.
It seemed as if he would break if touched.
Xia Xi's fingertips trembled, and she retracted her hand. She moved a chair and sat beside the bed to watch over him. Her heart was always in her throat and her breathing was tight.
After an unknown amount of time, the person on the bed moved his eyelids. Xia Xi noticed it, immediately stood up, and called softly, "Xu Yanfeng."
Xu Yanfeng opened his eyes, and a worried and helpless face came into his sight. She no longer concealed her emotions, no longer wore a cold mask, and was so straightforward about her feelings to him.
How could he believe that she didn't like him?
How could she feel so sad if she didn't like him? She looked like she was about to cry.
Xia Xi bent down and asked nervously, "How are you?"
"I'm fine." After Xu Yanfeng finished speaking, he remembered that he was now a victim of a car accident. His tone was a little weaker, as if he had no strength left. "I just feel a little dizzy."
"Wait a minute, I'll call a doctor to check you out."
Xia Xi stood up, but before she could take a step, Xu Yanfeng grabbed her hand hanging by her side.
He emphasized: "It's really okay."
Xia Xi: "You don't count. Only when the doctor says it's okay is it really okay."
Xu Yanfeng held her hand tightly, frowning slightly, looking very pitiful: "Don't go."
Xia Xi was a little worried. He held her tightly and she couldn't leave, so she had to stay with him.
Xu Yanfeng felt it was inconvenient to talk while lying down and asked to sit up.
Xia Xi carefully raised the bed and helped him adjust to the most comfortable position. She said, "If you feel dizzy, remember to tell me. Don't force yourself to bear it."
"Yeah." Xu Yanfeng pursed his lips slightly, enjoying Xia Xi's care.
He felt that her whole body had become extremely soft, and even her voice was so soft, as if she was coaxing Ziheng.
Xia Xi didn't know what Xu Yanfeng was thinking at the moment, so she asked him, "Would you like some water?"
Xu Yanfeng shook his head and followed her with his eyes.
He held her hand again and asked her to sit down on the bed.
The ward was filled with the faint smell of disinfectant, which was not pleasant, but Xu Yanfeng felt a sense of warmth. Through the nearby window, he could see half of the sky dyed red by the setting sun.
It's too good to be true.
Xu Yanfeng kneaded Xia Xi's fingers. She felt a little uncomfortable, her eyelashes drooping as she stared at his hands entwined with hers. She didn't struggle, letting him play with hers. The atmosphere was quiet, and inexplicably developed in an ambiguous direction.
Xia Xi wanted to say something to break the atmosphere, but she didn't know what to say.
Just as she was struggling, Xu Yanfeng spoke first: "Can't you see it?"
There was no foreshadowing, no extra explanation, just a confusing question. Xia Xi didn't understand what he meant. She raised her eyes and fell on his sharp features: "What do you see?"
Thinking about what he was going to say next, Xu Yanfeng felt embarrassed.
He has never been one to speak his mind. In the past, he always envied Xia Xi, who seemed to be born with the ability to love others. She could express her feelings of liking someone without reservation. He couldn't do that.
His heartbeat, confusion, bitterness, possessiveness, etc. were all suppressed in his heart.
There were many times when he wanted to tell her that she was the first girl who made his heart move, and apart from her, there would never be another person who could make him experience the feeling of worrying about gains and losses and yet being happy with it.
Before he knew that the "betrayal" was fake, he had already decided not to care. As long as she was still willing to be with him, he would bury the past forever and start over with her.
However, every time those words came to his lips, he swallowed them back.
He couldn't say it.
Now that he has decided to make a change, he starts by going against his own nature.
After waiting for Xu Yanfeng to speak for a long time, Xia Xi felt something was wrong and thought that he didn't hear her, so she asked again: "What should I see?"
