Chapter 291 Not Used to Sleeping with Strangers

In a panic, Ziheng caught a glimpse of Xia Xi's cell phone and quickly picked it up. He didn't know who to call. His grandmother lived a little far away and it would take time for her to get over.

Then he thought of that person.

Without hesitation, Ziheng found the number marked as Xu Yanfeng in the address book and dialed it.

He put the phone to his ear and waited for a few seconds before the call was connected. Xu Yanfeng's voice was low and contained a faint smile: "Xia Xi."

When Ziheng heard the familiar voice, he instantly cast aside all his prejudices against him. It was as if he had found his backbone. When he spoke, his voice unconsciously became tearful: "Mom is not feeling well. She is in so much pain that she is about to faint. There is no one at home."

Xu Yanfeng was in a luxurious box. When the phone rang, he walked to the side with his phone. People were chatting and laughing behind him. The moment he heard Ziheng finish speaking, the surroundings seemed to be silent for a moment.

I can't hear anything.

The panic in Xu Yanfeng's eyes was obvious, but his voice was unusually calm, with a soothing power: "I'll be back soon, you keep an eye on Mom. I'll be there soon, don't worry."

Ziheng choked and hummed with a heavy nasal sound.

Xu Yanfeng didn't hang up the phone. He turned around and strode out of the box without saying a word.

All those present were famous figures, and they looked at each other in confusion.

After getting in the car, Xu Yanfeng told the driver to drive home as quickly as possible.

He didn't know what Xia Xi's illness was, and worried that he would be too late, so he borrowed the driver's phone to call 120. If emergency treatment was needed, having professional medical staff on the scene would provide an extra layer of protection.

The place where Xu Yanfeng was attending a social event was not far from his home, and he arrived at about the same time as the ambulance.

He almost rushed into the house. Ziheng was kneeling on the carpet beside the sofa, guarding Xia Xi obediently. There were traces of tears on his little face, and he couldn't hide his worry and anxiety.

When he saw Xu Yanfeng, Ziheng rubbed his eyes hard, thinking it was an illusion.

Xu Yanfeng picked up Xia Xi, who was curled up on the sofa. Her face had lost all color, and the sweat had wet the hair on her cheeks. She looked like she had been fished out of the water, and her brows were twisted in pain.

As Xu Yanfeng walked out, he told Ziheng, "Wait at home and lock the door. Aunt Zhang will come over to accompany you later."

"I want to go too." Ziheng said uneasily.

Xu Yanfeng hesitated for only a second before agreeing: "Put on a coat. I can't take care of you, just follow me."

Ziheng quickly grabbed a coat, followed Xu Yanfeng's footsteps, took the elevator downstairs, and got into the ambulance.

After arriving at the hospital, Xia Xi was sent to the emergency room and underwent a gastroscopy.

The father and son stood outside the endoscopy room. Xu Yanfeng half-bent over and looked at Ziheng. His cool fingertips rubbed the remaining tear marks on his face. His face was gentle, "Are you scared? It's okay. The doctor is examining Mom. She'll be well soon."

This is what he said to the child, but Xu Yanfeng still didn't know what was wrong with Xia Xi until this moment. His heart felt like it was being pressed by a heavy stone, and he felt extremely depressed, but he couldn't show it in front of the child.

Ziheng was obviously not so easy to fool. His face was tense and his expression was still solemn.

Xu Yanfeng held his shoulders and gently pushed him to sit on the plastic chair next to him. He squatted down in front of him and wanted to say something to divert his attention, but he didn't know what to say.

Ziheng lowered his head and said, "Mom, it wasn't this serious before. The medicine is very effective."

Xu Yanfeng's eyebrows jumped, and the word "before" circled in his mind: "Do you know what disease my mother has?"

Ziheng nodded, then shook his head. He didn't know the details. "Stomachache."

"Is it a regular occurrence?" Xu Yanfeng's voice was filled with a hint of urgency.

Ziheng thought for a moment and said uncertainly, "Occasionally."

Maybe often.

He has to go to school and his mother has to go to work, so they are not together most of the day. Maybe his mother was not feeling well and took medicine secretly, but he couldn't see it, so he didn't know.

Xu Yanfeng didn't say anything for a long time. He sat on the chair next to Ziheng, hugged his small body in his arms, and stroked his head with his palm.

After the examination, the doctor gave a diagnosis that Xia Xi had chronic atrophic gastritis with bile reflux and polyps in the stomach. It was normal for him to feel so much pain that he couldn't straighten his back.

After treatment, Xia Xi fell into a coma and was pushed into the ward.

Xu Yanfeng looked at the person lying quietly on the hospital bed, his heart still hanging in the air and unable to calm down.

After all this tossing and turning, Ziheng was so sleepy that his eyelids were fighting. He sat on the sofa, his head drooping lower and lower. Xu Yanfeng patted the back of his head, and when he looked up, he said in a low voice, "I'll have the driver take you home to sleep."

Hearing this, the sleepyhead disappeared immediately. Ziheng shook his head stubbornly, "I won't leave."

"I'll take care of your mother here, and don't forget, you have to go to school tomorrow." Xu Yanfeng pinched his face, "Be obedient."

"I want to stay." Ziheng drooped his eyelids and clenched his trousers with his fingers, fearing that he would be forced to go back.

Xu Yanfeng was silent for a while, and finally compromised: "Okay, then let's sleep together tonight."

Ziheng was a little bit unconvinced of what he heard, so he raised his eyes and stared at his face.

"Go to the bathroom and wash up." Xu Yanfeng pointed to the white plastic bag on the table. It was the daily necessities he had asked the driver to buy at a nearby supermarket. "Take anything you need."

Ziheng was sure that he really agreed to let him stay, so he relaxed, stood up, took out a set of toiletries from the bag, held it in his arms, and walked to the bathroom.
