Chapter 305 You Don’t Trust Me

Xia Xi subconsciously looked up at Xu Yanfeng. They were discussing such a serious topic as getting a marriage certificate, but she suddenly interrupted it to answer the phone, as if she was avoiding the question.

Xu Yanfeng didn't think too much about it. He glanced at the name displayed on her phone screen. It was someone he knew. He raised his chin and said, "You answer the phone first. Maybe it's urgent for you."

"Then I answered it?"

"Take it."

Xia Xi pressed the answer button, and a cheerful and clear voice immediately rang out from the other end: "Xi, didn't you read the group message? I've tagged you several times, but you didn't even reply."

"Sorry, what's up?" Xia Xi explained, "I just got back from a business trip abroad. I haven't had time to check the news yet."

"It's okay. I know you're busy." Zhao Lei said with a smile, "I'm getting married on May Day. If you're free, could you come and be my bridesmaid? Wu Qinglu, Wang Qiuyu and the others will be coming too. The girls in our dormitory haven't gotten together in a while."

Xia Xi left in such a hurry that year that none of her roommates even had a graduation photo together, which was quite a shame. Taking this opportunity to get together, it made up for the regret.

"Congratulations." Xia Xi was genuinely happy for her, but she was a little curious. "Who's your husband? Weren't you still single at the last class reunion? Are you getting married so soon?"

"Not soon." Zhao Lei calculated the date for her. "The class reunion was last September."

Xia Xi counted silently in his heart, and it was only half a year.

"My husband is the son of my mother's friend. You haven't met him yet. I'll introduce him to you at the wedding." Zhao Lei said, "Just tell me, do you want to come?"

Xia Xi: "I should have nothing to do during the May Day holiday, so I can go. Forget about being a bridesmaid, I'm already a mother."

"What's wrong with being a mother?" Zhao Lei didn't mind those old customs. "It's my wedding, I decide!"

Xia Xi was amused and touched, but she still felt that it was inappropriate. Perhaps the elders cared more about these things.

The two chatted back and forth for a while. Seeing Xia Xi's insistence, Zhao Lei didn't want to force it, so she gave in. "Okay, okay, I'll just pick up another cousin to make up the number. Then remember to come early that day to play. Oh, and don't forget to bring your boyfriend and baby. It will be more fun with more people."

After the call ended, Xia Xi still had a warm smile on his face for a long time.

She opened the dorm chat group she'd created during college. It had never been disbanded, and they'd occasionally chatted there, sharing their latest news, complaining about work frustrations, and sharing travel tips... but she'd never participated.

For one afternoon, the other three people in the group chatted intermittently for hundreds of messages. The topics revolved around Zhao Lei's wedding, how bridesmaids should set up door blocking levels, and where to hide wedding shoes.

Xu Yanfeng listened to some of the conversation between Xia Xi and Zhao Lei and asked, "Is your roommate getting married?"

"Yeah." Xia Xi slid her finger across the screen, scrolling up to read the group messages. "Do you want to go with me? I wonder if you're free on May Day."

Xu Yanfeng raised his eyelids to look at her and smiled: "Do you want me to accompany you to the wedding?"

Xia Xi said, "They already invited my boyfriend and children. Aren't you my boyfriend?"

Xu Yanfeng put his arm around her shoulders and said, "Okay, I'll go with you."

Xia Xi glanced at him sideways, and said with a half-smile, "Don't make it sound so forced."

"Not at all." Xu Yanfeng shook his head. "I'm happy to do it."

How could he feel reluctant since Xia Xi was willing to take him to a public appearance? Not to mention being free during the holidays, he would squeeze out time even if he wasn't free.

Aunt Zhang had just caught the two kissing, so she became more cautious. Before leaving the kitchen, she coughed lightly as a reminder. Then she walked into the living room and saw Xu Yanfeng hugging Xia Xi. She was stunned for a moment and said, "It's time to eat."

At the dinner table, Xia Xi took the initiative to bring up the topic that was interrupted by Zhao Lei's phone call: "I think it's a bit early to get the marriage certificate."

Xu Yanfeng paused as he was picking up some food with his chopsticks, looked at her seriously, and asked, "Is it early?"

"Why not sooner? We just made up."

"In my opinion, what we have is not called 'reconciliation', it's called a long-distance relationship." Xu Yanfeng said nonsense seriously, "We have only been apart for six years."

“…”

His words almost choked Xia Xi to death.

Xu Yanfeng pushed the bowl of soup towards her and said logically, "Look at your roommate, Zhao Lei, right? She changed so quickly. She was single last September and is getting married on May Day this year."

"There's no comparison to this kind of thing." Xia Xi quickly swallowed the winter melon in her mouth to avoid choking again. "She said her husband is the son of her mother's friend. Maybe they knew each other when they were children."

Xu Yanfeng did not comment on her assumptions.

Xia Xi didn't mention that she was concerned about his family. She picked up a piece of pork chop for him and coaxed him, "I want to experience the feeling of being in love again, okay? Talking about marriage right after reconciliation makes me feel like I'm rushing a task."

If she said that, Xu Yanfeng would have no way to refute it. He couldn't just arbitrarily deprive her of the right to fall in love just because he was insecure and wanted to tie her down with a marriage certificate.

but--

Looking at it from another angle, there are also loopholes in Xia Xi's words.

Xu Yanfeng said: "You want to experience the feeling of being in love, why do you think that after getting married, I can't give you the feeling of being in love? You don't trust me, or..."

"Eat, I'm having indigestion."

Xia Xi leaned over, picked up the piece of pork ribs from his bowl and stuffed it into his mouth.
