Not knowing whether what she said was true or not, the lump in Xu Yanfeng's heart remained stubborn.
Xia Xi patted his arm: "How long do you want to talk? I'm hungry."
"Eat something first."
Xu Yanfeng turned sideways, reached out to take something from the back seat and threw it into Xia Xi's arms, then drove the car.
Xia Xi looked down and saw the familiar old-fashioned brown paper packaging. It was from her favorite bakery. Untying the string and wrapping paper, she found her favorite chestnut and mung bean cakes, emitting a slightly sweet aroma. She looked toward the driver's seat. Xu Yanfeng noticed something and, while waiting at a red light, reached over and pinched her face. "I bought this on the way."
She restrained herself and only ate a piece of cake, saving her stomach for the big meal.
There was a bit of traffic on the road and they couldn't move, so Xu Yanfeng took the opportunity to call Su Jinru and told her that he would not be there for dinner and asked them to eat by themselves.
Xia Xi listened to his serious tone, turned her face away and smiled silently.
Xu Yanfeng didn't take her to some Western restaurant—she had expected him to book a romantic Western restaurant for a candlelight dinner since he wanted to celebrate the holiday. In reality, it was a genuine Chinese restaurant, very secluded and winding.
Correspondingly, the environment was very quiet. As they walked in, apart from the waiters, they didn't see a single customer. Xia Xi felt strange and asked about it. Only then did she know that apart from the two of them, this private restaurant would not accept any other customers tonight because Xu Yanfeng had reserved the place for himself.
It's just a meal, there's no need for such a big fuss. Xia Xi only thought so in his heart and didn't say it out loud.
Naturally, all the chefs in the kitchen only served the two of them. All the dishes were very exquisite and appetizing. Xia Xi's appetite was whetted, and he chatted less frequently, just focusing on eating.
Xu Yanfeng drank some wine and hired a designated driver when he went back. He asked the driver to stop halfway and he pushed open the car door and got out.
Xia Xi leaned on the car window and watched his figure as he entered a brightly lit flower shop on the roadside. It was obvious that he had made an appointment in advance. In less than two minutes, he came out with a bouquet of roses in his hand.
A man in a shirt and suit walked out from a cluster of flowers, his arms also filled with beautiful flowers. The light was behind him, so his face was not clearly illuminated. I could only feel that his eyes were deep and charming, like a colorful frame from a movie.
The car door opened and the fragrance filled the air. The next second, soft petals touched Xia Xi's chin. He handed the flowers to her arms.
"I will never say that you are allergic to romance again." Xia Xi fiddled with the petals with her fingers twice and said seriously.
Xu Yanfeng smiled, leaned close to her ear, and said softly, "I knew you were spreading rumors and slandering me before."
Xia Xi: “…”
When they got home, it was quiet and peaceful, not a soul in sight. Even Aunt Zhang was nowhere to be found. Xu Yanfeng leaned over from behind Xia Xi, his arm across her waist, his chin nuzzling the crook of her neck affectionately. He spoke so softly, almost breathlessly, "I gave Aunt Zhang a day off. It's rare to have just the two of us at home."
Xia Xi was a little distracted by this. "I remember you only drank one glass of green plum wine tonight. Are you drunk?"
