Chapter 343 Another Scandal

Xu Yanfeng stayed in the study for an hour and returned to the master bedroom. The warm yellow light enveloped the big bed. Xia Xi was still sleeping soundly, her black hair spread all over the pillow, and her long eyelashes cast a small, faint shadow on her face.

He walked gently to the bed, holding his breath, lifted the quilt and got into bed.

He was already being careful enough, but he didn't want to press his elbow against Xia Xi's hair when he lay down. His scalp was tugging at him, and Xia Xi frowned. He slowly opened his eyelids and said in a hoarse voice, "What are you doing?"

Xu Yanfeng turned over and patted the child through the quilt, like coaxing a child who was accidentally woken up by him: "I went out to drink a glass of water, go to sleep."

She was so sleepy that Xia Xi hummed vaguely, closed her eyes, and subconsciously snuggled into his arms.

Xu Yanfeng turned off the desk lamp, and the bedroom was filled with darkness.

As she was about to fall asleep, Xia Xi suddenly remembered the letter her grandmother had left her. Her grandmother had told her how nice it was to have a shoulder to lean on. She hadn't fully grasped that at the time, always believing she could face anything, but now she understood it fully.

If Xu Yanfeng had not been by her side, giving her a shoulder to lean on, she would have been overwhelmed and would have tried to find a solution to this situation alone, even if she didn't care about the rumors outside.

It was because of him that she could fall asleep without any worries.

"Xu Yanfeng." Xia Xi called his name in the darkness, "Are you asleep?"

"How can I fall asleep so quickly?" Xu Yanfeng hummed softly, "What's wrong?"

As he spoke, his chest vibrated slightly. Xia Xi rubbed his chest with her cheek, and said softly, "It's great to have you."

Xia Xi didn't think it was a big deal when she didn't get an answer. She just wanted to tell him and didn't need him to respond.

Just as he was about to go back to sleep, the desk lamp came on. Xia Xi stared at his face in a daze: "What are you doing?"

Xu Yanfeng stared at her and laughed: "I want to see what you look like."

Xia Xi was puzzled. He pinched the tip of her nose and then heard him say, "Look at how silly you are."

Xia Xi was unconvinced: "You are stupid."

What's wrong with this guy? She said such tender words, but he actually called her stupid.

Xu Yanfeng: "You just realized how good it is to have me? If you're not stupid, who else is stupid?"

Xia Xi thought for a moment and said, "It's not like I just found out. I've known you're a very good person for a long time. It's just... I suddenly wanted to tell you."

Xu Yanfeng looked at her serious explanation and found her adorable. Most of the time, Xia Xi wasn't exactly adorable, but he caught this side of her in one of the few instances where she did.

Xu Yanfeng's eyes slid down and landed on her slightly pursed lips. They were a light pink, plump and moist. His Adam's apple slid down and he asked in a low voice, "What else do you want to tell me?"

"Hmm?" Xia Xi raised her eyelids, "It's gone."

Xu Yanfeng lowered his head and bit her lower lip, then slipped in while her mouth was open.

Xia Xi was caught off guard and felt dizzy from the kiss. After finally regaining some sense, she pushed him on the waist and found an opportunity to accuse him, "Why are you like this? Didn't we already... do this twice in the shower?"

"Really?" Xu Yanfeng pretended not to remember.

Xia Xi: “…”

She swore that she had not provoked him and didn't know how it turned out like this.

The next morning, Xia Xi finally woke up after the alarm rang for the third time. She opened her eyes and saw the calm man, his eyes filled with only resentment. Xu Yanfeng lowered his eyes as he adjusted his belt, avoiding her gaze.

"Take your time to wash up, I'll make you breakfast."

Xu Yanfeng tidied himself up and left the bedroom.

By the time Xia Xi ate breakfast, his resentment towards someone had mostly dissipated. He was wearing a light blue shirt buttoned up to the top, covering himself tightly. Xu Yanfeng tried to suppress a smile, but it escaped his eyes.

"If you laugh again, I'll be really angry." Xia Xi lowered her head to drink her porridge, but her eyes did not miss Xu Yanfeng's actions. She knew that he was laughing and she also knew what he was laughing at.

Xu Yanfeng coughed lightly and got down to business: "Do you still have to record the show today? Can't you take a leave?"

Xia Xi understood his concerns. The storm had not yet completely subsided. When the people from the program crew saw her, they would inevitably think of the true and false rumors on the Internet. They might have opinions about her, which would affect her mood.

"It's almost over, so it wouldn't be nice to suddenly ask for leave," Xia Xi said calmly. "We're all respectable people. Even if we have some thoughts in our hearts, we won't really say them to your face. Even if they do say them, I don't mind."

Xu Yanfeng respected her and sent her to the recording site.

Xia Xi hadn't touched her phone since the incident last night. She had set her alarms on Xu Yanfeng's phone, and had no idea how far things had progressed. After parting with Xu Yanfeng, she turned on her phone, and it seemed to explode, with text messages, WeChat, and Weibo notifications ringing non-stop.

Colleagues at the company, college classmates, and good friends all sent their condolences. Xia Yue and Xia Xuan even called her more than a dozen times. Later, they probably contacted Xu Yanfeng and stopped calling.

Xia Xi couldn't resist her curiosity and logged onto Weibo. She didn't have a public Weibo account, but she had one she'd registered. She glanced at the trending search list and was stunned. There was no entry related to her from top to bottom.

Thinking that he had seen it wrong, Xia Xi slowly slid his finger across the screen and looked carefully, but it was indeed not there.

Everything that happened yesterday seemed like a dream.

Xia Xi quickly noticed something unusual: several trending searches included the word "Ling's," and a person, Ling Xunzhang, was mentioned. Xia Xi had no idea who this person was, so after clicking on the search results, she discovered that Ling Xunzhang was the current president of Ling's.

The Ling Group was suspected of tax evasion and was investigated by relevant departments. The entire group was in chaos. The Ling Group’s official Weibo account issued several statements in a row, warning the public not to spread rumors and slander.
