Xu Yanfeng listened to the recording several times, unplugged his headphones, tossed them aside, and went downstairs. The living room was filled with low whispers. He slowly opened his eyelids, and Xia Xi's gentle and bright profile came into view. The corners of his lips curled up, and he pointed to a photo in the album and asked Zhong Yinghong.
The voice was intermittent and Xu Yanfeng couldn't hear clearly. Zhong Yinghong said something, and Xia Xi's lips curved more clearly, and a crisp and pleasant laugh overflowed.
His eye sockets were so sore and painful that Xu Yanfeng closed his eyes. He didn't know how she could endure it so much.
When Mingming was in college, she acted boldly, did what she wanted, and had no scruples. Nothing could stop her. If someone made her unhappy, she would not ask for his help and would go and settle the score herself.
But she is so tolerant in this matter.
Xia Xi was so engrossed in looking at the photo album that she didn't notice Xu Yanfeng. Every time she turned a page, she curiously asked Zhong Yinghong under what circumstances the photo was taken. She exclaimed that Xu Yanfeng was so cute when he was a child, so cool and cute, and there was a huge difference between him and now.
Ziheng's personality is more like his father's. At least when she was a child, she was not like this. She was more mischievous. When her grandmother and Su Jinru were busy, she would often make Xia Yue stamp her feet in anger.
Zhong Yinghong was amused by her and smiled with her eyes narrowed, and the photos drew her back to recall the past events.
Xu Yanfeng ran to the study, pushed the door open without knocking.
The door panel hit the wall with a clang and bounced back, startling Xu Guanshan who was talking on the phone inside.
Xu Guanshan held the cell phone in his hand, frowning. He glanced unhappily at the unfilial son who broke in, cursing him inwardly for growing older and becoming more and more unruly, forgetting all the etiquette and manners he had learned before.
"I have something here. I'll talk to you later." Xu Guanshan's expression was gloomy, and his voice was very steady. He said something to the person on the phone, hung up the call, and looked straight at Xu Yanfeng, who had a troubled face.
"Just say whatever you want to say. There's no need to act like you want to eat me." Xu Guanshan didn't feel that he owed him anything. On the contrary, he gave him the best things in the world. He didn't know what he was dissatisfied with and why he came here to vent his anger.
Xu Yanfeng stared at his father who was sitting still. Resentment, anger, and hostility burned in his eyes like a volcano that could erupt at any time.
After staring at each other for an unknown amount of time, Xu Yanfeng seemed to have found his own voice, wrapped in hatred: "Seven years ago, it was you who found Xia Xi and made her leave me." He spoke each word clearly, squeezing each word out from between his teeth.
Xu Guanshan was stunned, glanced outside the door, and became suspicious of Xia Xi.
Seeing through his thoughts, Xu Yanfeng's eyes darkened as he sneered, "That's not what she said. When you did this, you never thought that one day I would find out and hate you even more than when I was eight years old. I hate your hypocrisy and your betrayal of my mother..."
There was a crackling sound, like the sound of breaking porcelain. Zhong Yinghong heard it and muttered, "It seems to be coming from the study." Her heart was beating wildly, and she felt uneasy. After thinking for a moment, she moved the open photo album to Xia Xi's lap and said, "I'll go take a look."
Xia Xi turned her head and watched Zhong Yinghong walk towards the study. It seemed like she hadn't seen Xu Yanfeng for a while. Just as the thought came to her mind, a chaotic sound of footsteps came from the stairs.
Xu Junmo jumped down three steps in one go, in a hurry, holding a mobile phone in his hand, looking anxious and panicked.
Seeing that Xia Xi was the only one in the living room, Xu Junmo looked around. It was empty and quiet. He swallowed and said in a tense voice, "Where's Xu Er?"
Xia Xi shook his head in shock.
Xu Junmo was as anxious as an ant on a hot pan, sweat breaking out on his back. He hadn't heard the content of the recording before sending it to Xu Yanfeng, but just now, out of curiosity, he clicked on it and listened to it.
You don’t know until you hear it, and you’ll be shocked when you hear it.
Xu Yanfeng's breakup was caused by Xu Guanshan, which was too scary. Xu Yanfeng's rebellious period came late, and it only started recently. If he knew about it, it would be impossible for him not to get angry.
Zhong Yinghong rushed to the door of the study and just heard Xu Yanfeng say, "When it comes to cruelty, who can compare to you? You know that seeing you and that woman intimate when I was eight years old was the nightmare of my life, and you still use this method to sever my thoughts on Xia Xi."
Zhong Yinghong froze, her ears buzzing as if filled with bugs. Her brain stopped functioning, leaving her blank and unable to think. All she could think about was the echoing of the words: You know full well that catching you and that woman together when I was eight was the nightmare of my life...
Being intimate with that woman?
When you were eight years old?
When Xu Yanfeng was eight years old, the thing that most vividly impressed her was him falling down the stairs and breaking his arm. She hadn't witnessed it herself, but after hearing about it, she hurried back from her mother's home. The young boy sat mournfully in a chair, his face downcast, ignoring everyone who spoke to him. His arm was in a cast, secured by a bandage around his neck, and a rash still lingered on his cheeks and neck. It was said he had an allergic reaction at school, and the teacher had sent him home early.
No matter what you ask him, he won't say a word and remains silent. His eyes, which used to be dark and bright, are now gray and lifeless, as if covered by a shadow.
"……mom?"
Xu Junmo came over and saw Zhong Yinghong lying there petrified. He called her, but she didn't respond. When he got closer, he found that her face was frighteningly pale.
"Mom." Xu Junmo called her again and went forward to support her.
With someone supporting her, Zhong Yinghong lost all her strength, her legs giving way, and she stumbled backward. Xu Junmo used his hands to steady her, "Mom? What's wrong with you?!"
The voice rose in a high pitch, tinged with surprise, and finally stopped the father and son who were arguing in the study. They both turned their attention to the door and saw the panicked Xu Junmo and the dull-eyed Zhong Yinghong.
