Chapter 364 How are you going to be responsible for her?

"Xiaoxuan..." Chen Songbai walked into the room. He had not closed his eyes since last night. He looked like a patient with a terminal illness. His face was pale and a little scary. The only thing left was a red mark on the half of his face that was hit by Xia Xi.

Xia Xi folded his arms across his chest, leaned against the door frame, and looked inside quietly.

Chen Songbai knelt beside the bed, his knee suddenly stabbing with pain. He looked down and saw a piece of broken glass had pierced his knee. He was wearing light khaki trousers, and blood seeped through the fabric.

He wrapped the broken pieces in a tissue and threw them into the trash can nearby.

Xia Yue did not leave. She still sat by the bed, supporting Xia Xuan, staring at Chen Songbai coldly.

"I'm sorry, Xiaoxuan, I didn't mean to do that. I don't know why it happened." Chen Songbai felt that the slap Xia Xi gave him was too light, not enough to offset his sin. "I don't want to divorce you. Can we not divorce?"

He held Xia Xuan's hand and cried without dignity: "You can do whatever you want to me, just don't leave me."

Xia Xuan's eyes were calm, like a pool of stagnant water. Her eyes gradually became blurry and her thoughts wandered back to the time when they first met.

It was March, the sky bright and clear, white clouds drifting, and a gentle breeze. The class was organizing a field trip, scheduled two weeks in advance. The destination involved a long climb up a mountain path, and she couldn't handle strenuous exercise. She reported to her teacher less than a third of the way up, requesting to rest on the spot. The teacher was aware of her condition, and her parents had explained it to her at the start of the school year and provided relevant medical documentation, so she didn't even participate in the military training.

After confirming that she was fine on her own, the teacher led the other students to continue up the mountain. She sat on the slope for a long time to rest, gathering enough strength, and then slowly made her way to the foot of the mountain, intending to wait for them.

It is said that going up a mountain is easier than going down. She did not believe it at first, but after experiencing it herself, she realized that it was the truth. Not long after she walked down, she twisted her ankle because she could not stop, and fell into a cement ditch on the side of the road. She pressed her ankle with her hand and grimaced in pain.

She took out her cell phone from her schoolbag, held it up and shook it for a long time, but there was no signal at all.

In her despair, she heard footsteps behind her. She froze in shock. Two seconds later, she slowly turned her head. It was a tall, thin man with delicate features and short hair. He was wearing a black tracksuit with a white hem. He had a black backpack slung over his shoulder, the strap of which he held. Behind him stood two men and a woman, presumably with him.

She didn't know him, but in this remote place, she didn't know who else to turn to except the person in front of her. She thought for a moment and told him about her predicament.

The boy was Chen Songbai. He held her arm, carefully pulled her up, and asked her if she could still walk.

She tapped the ground lightly with her sprained foot and tried to move a step. She felt a piercing pain immediately and tears came to her eyes. She shook her head and said she couldn't walk.

Chen Songbai's friend joked that a beautiful girl appeared in this desolate mountain, and she was injured. She must be a demon. Chen Songbai kicked his friend's leg and threw his bag over to him, asking his friend to help hold it.

He squatted in front of her and turned his neck to look back at her: "Come up, I'll carry you down the mountain."

She was a little hesitant, after all, she was a stranger. Chen Songbai thought she mistook him for a bad guy, so he stood up and walked over to his friend, unzipped his backpack, and took out his ID and student ID to show her.

She looked carefully and found that they were students from the neighboring school.

Chen Songbai snorted and laughed. She really suspected that he had ulterior motives. He said, "There's no signal here. I can't call anyone to help. We have no choice but to go down the mountain. How about you sit here and we go down the mountain to find someone to carry you down?"

The trip back and forth took quite a while. She scratched her face and said sheepishly, "Thank you for your help."

Chen Songbai squatted down in front of her again. This time, she didn't hesitate, leaning forward and wrapping her arms around his neck. It was her first time having such intimate contact with a man. Her heart was beating fast, and she gradually forgot the pain in her ankle.

The mountain road is rugged, and even with anti-slip stone slabs, you still have to go around in circles.

Her breathing was shallow, and she saw the boy's red ears and beads of sweat rolling down his face. Her paper was in her bag, so it was inconvenient to take it out. She wiped his sweat with her sleeve. He was stunned for a moment, said nothing, and continued walking forward.

She felt a little guilty, a little embarrassed, and more touched. She asked him softly, "Are you tired?"

He said, not tired.

She thought he was lying, as he was sweating profusely but still not tired.

Later, Chen Songbai's friends couldn't bear it anymore and said with a wink: "Student Chen, are you okay? Why don't you let me take over?" After one of them said this, the other two laughed.

Her face turned red instantly. Chen Songbai turned his head and glared at his friend, making the shape of "shut up" with his mouth.

Chen Songbai carried her down the mountain by himself. When they reached the foot of the mountain, Chen Songbai put her down, gasping for breath. His cell phone finally had a signal, so he contacted a car and took her to the hospital.

Later, her foot healed, and to express her gratitude, she treated Chen Songbai to dinner. As time went by, they became increasingly familiar with each other. She fell in love with him, but due to her health, she never dared to express her feelings, nor did she think they could have a future. The time she secretly loved him was painful, more painful than any other girl's secret love.

The day Chen Songbai confessed his love for her, she was overwhelmed and couldn't stop crying. She was so happy, but she didn't say yes. Chen Songbai didn't give up, and pursued her fiercely. She kept trying to avoid him, and when she couldn't avoid him anymore, she told him about her health. She looked normal, but in reality... she could die at any moment, like a time bomb strapped to her body.
