Chinese Valentine's Day was on a Tuesday, so Xia Xi took half a day off.
We arrived at the Civil Affairs Bureau at around seven o'clock. As expected, there were so many people coming to get their certificates that we couldn't count them. We could see a long queue outside the door from a distance.
"Now you know that what I said is not an exaggeration." Xia Xi looked at the endless team with a smile on his face.
Xu Yanfeng found a good place to park: "Since we're here, all we have to do is wait. I have plenty of time."
Unbuckled his seatbelt, he grabbed Xia Xi's bag, pulled out the documents inside, checked them one by one, and confirmed that everything was complete and nothing was missing. He packed his things and returned the bag to Xia Xi: "Let's go."
Amused by his actions, Xia Xi pointed at herself and said, "Am I a three-year-old child? I can still drop things."
"It's always better to be safe." Xu Yanfeng raised his eyebrows slightly. "What if, what if you forgot to bring it? It's still not too late to go back and get it now. If you find out you're missing the documents when you go to process them, it will be too late."
Xia Xi was unconvinced: "How can it be too late? The Civil Affairs Bureau is not open only today."
"I just can't wait."
"You're inconsistent," Xia Xi pointed out. "You just said you had plenty of time."
Xu Yanfeng raised his hands, announcing that he had lost. He chuckled and helped her unlock the seat belt: "Let's get off the bus quickly, there are more and more people queuing." After a few words, the line became longer.
Just like playing Snake, it keeps getting longer.
Xia Xi got out of the car, pulled her skirt down, slung her bag over her shoulder, and went to queue.
She tilted her head and looked ahead, worried: "Can we get so much done in one morning? I only took half a day off."
This is easy to do. Xu Yanfeng suggested: "Then please give me another half day."
Xia Xi: “…”
He said it so lightly.
After the Civil Affairs Bureau opened, the line moved forward, some to get numbers, some to handle business.
After entering the hall, Xu Yanfeng was responsible for running errands. Xia Xi sat on a chair in the waiting area and looked at his mobile phone. He sent several voice messages to Huang Siyu. When he noticed someone was looking at him, Xia Xi thought he was talking too loudly and disturbing others, so he changed to sending text messages.
After sending the message, she raised her head and looked around. Indeed, many people were looking at her. She lowered her head and looked at herself from top to bottom. There was nothing wrong with her. She was wearing a white shirt with a skirt and a pair of wide-toed flat shoes on her feet.
Xu Yanfeng took a number and walked towards her. He was dressed in a white shirt, black suit, and shiny leather shoes. He was tall and slender, and his face was particularly outstanding, striking from any angle. Xia Xi picked up her bag from the chair next to her, and he sat down. The two of them came together, a handsome man and a beautiful woman, and they attracted even more attention.
It's not like she hadn't been stared at before, but the rate of people turning back to look at her was ridiculously high. Xia Xi leaned closer to Xu Yanfeng and said, "It looks like someone is taking pictures of us."
"Huh?" Xu Yanfeng raised his eyes and glanced, just in time to see a young woman holding up a mobile phone to take a secret photo of them. Because she was discovered, the woman looked unnatural, blocked the phone, and quickly looked away.
"Maybe he recognized us," Xu Yanfeng said. "Did you forget that you've been on the show? Are you considered a public figure?"
Xia Xi was stunned for a moment: "Yes."
Xu Yanfeng laughed at her for not bringing her brain with her when she went out today, and in return he received a heavy punch on the arm.
Xia Xi silently took out a disposable mask from her bag and put it on, leaving only her eyes exposed so that no one would recognize her. She handed one to Xu Yanfeng: "Do you want one?"
Xu Yanfeng shook his head.
Xia Xi ordered him to wear it. He was a public figure, and showing his handsome face would attract too much attention.
Xu Yanfeng was helpless, his lips curled slightly, and he moved closer to Xia Xi. Xia Xi paused, even more helpless than him. This was in public... She quickly stretched the strings on both sides of the mask, hung it over his ears, pinched the top of the mask with her fingers, and lifted it up to cover his high nose bridge.
After finishing it for him, Xia Xi sat back and chatted with him while looking at her phone.
The wait was too long, and Xia Xi felt drowsy. She put her phone back in her bag, her eyes half-lidded, her long eyelashes drooping. Xu Yanfeng didn't hear her say anything for a long time. He glanced at her, curling the corners of his lips into a silent smile. He stretched out his long arm, passed it around her back, and gently grasped her shoulders. She tilted her body and fell into his arms. Startled, she sat upright, her eyes wide.
"If you feel sleepy, just lean on me and take a nap." Xu Yanfeng pulled her into his arms again.
Xia Xi relaxed, adjusted to a comfortable position and closed his eyes.
In the not-so-quiet hall, she actually fell asleep, with a little sweat on her temples. Seeing how soundly she slept, Xu Yanfeng didn't have the heart to wake her up, but it was almost their turn.
"Xia Xi, wake up." Xu Yanfeng stretched out a finger and gently poked her face through the mask.
After all, it was a public place, and Xia Xi didn't sleep as soundly as she did at home. She woke up as soon as he spoke. She opened her hazy eyes and didn't understand where she was for the first second. She was stunned for a few seconds before finally waking up. She looked around and saw that there were still many people around.
Xu Yanfeng's clear voice came from my ears: "There is only one number left before our turn."
Xia Xi slipped out of his arms. Although she was awake, she still had a sense of laziness about her. Xu Yanfeng tilted his head and looked at her with his chin propped up. The lower half of his face was blocked by the mask, but the smile could not be hidden in the corners of his eyebrows and eyes.
Xia Xi was a little confused. She took out a mirror from her bag and looked at herself. Except for her hair being a little messy, everything else was fine. She brushed her hair with her hand and asked him, "Is there a problem?"
"No." Xu Yanfeng still smiled.
"Then why do you keep looking at me and smiling?"
Just when their number was called, Xu Yanfeng didn't explain. He took her hand, stood up, walked to the counter, and took off his mask.
