When getting off the car, Ziheng woke up. Xia Xi held his little hand as they walked into the elevator, her voice soft and gentle, "School starts in a few days. How are you getting your things organized?"
She let Ziheng pack all the things he needed for school by himself to cultivate his hands-on ability. She would check them again the night before school started and fill in any missing items for him.
Ziheng: "It's sorted."
"Really?" Xia Xi tried to change the subject to her real intention. "Mom will go check it for you later, so that I won't forget about it when school starts."
Ziheng had no objection and said "Oh".
After listening to the conversation between the mother and son, Xu Yanfeng laughed.
Xia Xi glanced at him, and Xu Yanfeng met her gaze. His voice was clear and meaningful, "This is a case of trying to cover up one's own guilt."
Ziheng heard it, blinked in confusion, and asked, "What do you mean by 'there's no silver here, there's three hundred taels of silver'?"
Xu Yanfeng raised his eyebrows slightly and patiently explained to him: "There was a man who had three hundred taels of silver and buried it in the ground. He was afraid that others would steal it, so he put up a sign to tell others that there was no three hundred taels of silver in this place."
"This guy is so stupid." Ziheng shook his head. "Wouldn't everyone know it when they see the sign?"
"That's right." Xu Yanfeng nodded, looking at someone with a clear understanding of the meaning, "So this sentence is used to describe someone who wants to hide something but ends up exposing it completely."
Xia Xi: “…”
After entering the house, Aunt Zhang came over and asked them if they wanted some midnight snack or something. They said no, so Aunt Zhang went back to her room.
Xia Xi ignored Xu Yanfeng, squatted down, pressed Ziheng's shoulders, and whispered, "Mom will sleep with you tonight, okay?"
Ziheng was about to say yes when Xu Yanfeng spoke first: "No."
The mother and son looked at him at the same time. He just looked at Xia Xi, trying to decide whether to smile or not.
Xia Xi's scalp tingled.
Ziheng didn't understand the undercurrent between the adults: "Why not?"
Xu Yanfeng thought quickly and came up with a plausible excuse: "Because Dad wants to talk to Mom about something very important."
Ziheng was never one to make trouble. Upon hearing this, he nodded seriously and gave up: "Okay then."
Children are easy to fool. Xu Yanfeng smiled and rubbed Ziheng's head with his palm twice: "Go back to your room and take a shower. Don't read too late and go to bed early."
Ziheng: "Mom just said she wanted to check if I'd forgotten any of my school supplies."
Xu Yanfeng: "School starts on the 31st, and today is only the 22nd. There are still a few days left. We will check again later."
Ziheng didn't say anything else, went back to the children's room and closed the door. Only Xu Yanfeng and Xia Xi were left in the living room.
The lights were bright, but Xu Yanfeng's eyes were dark. He hooked his arm around Xia Xi's neck and pulled her into his arms. His voice rang out from above her head: "On the first day of getting the marriage certificate, you want to sleep in a separate room from me?"
Xia Xi's neck was bent and her back was arched, like a chicken with its neck clamped, unable to break free. The posture was not very comfortable, but fortunately, it only lasted a few seconds before Xu Yanfeng let her go.
Before she could even breathe a sigh of relief, her body suddenly flew into the air and Xu Yanfeng picked her up sideways. She opened her mouth, but her scream was stuck in her throat and no sound came out.
Xu Yanfeng curled his lips slightly: "Did you forget that I said I would come back to settle the score with you."
"What's the score?" Xia Xi raised his leg and kicked the air to express his protest.
Xu Yanfeng held her and walked steadily towards the master bedroom. As he walked, he looked down into her eyes and asked, "What do you think?"
"I said? I said I'm innocent!" Xia Xi gave up her friend. "Zhao Lei sent it to me. I had no idea what it was before I clicked on it. If you don't believe me, you can look at my chat history with her."
Xu Yanfeng was like an unreasonable person: "I don't care, I just know that you looked at that naked man and you seemed quite happy."
Xia Xi gasped, her eyes widening: "How could I be happy watching this?"
Xu Yanfeng provided evidence: "Looking at it makes the corners of your mouth turn up, but that's not happiness. Tell me what happiness is."
Xia Xi was stunned.
Did the corners of her mouth turn up?
She couldn't remember what expression she had when she watched the video...
After entering the bedroom, Xu Yanfeng hooked the door shut with his foot. After a "bang", the surroundings became even quieter. Xia Xi's heart also skipped a beat with the sound of the door closing.
Xu Yanfeng still lowered his head, but suddenly he leaned very close and touched her forehead with his: "Do you still have any excuses?"
Xia Xi had nothing to say. She closed her eyes and, like a salted fish, stopped struggling and let herself be dealt with.
Seeing her so desperate, Xu Yanfeng couldn't help but laugh. His breath brushed against her ear, warm and itchy. Xia Xi shrank her neck, her heart trembling slightly. Xu Yanfeng lowered his voice, emphasizing each word, "Do you like that? I can do that too."
Xia Xi raised her eyelids, her eyes blank. Could it be that she had heard it wrong?
Next, Xu Yanfeng used his actions to tell her that she had not heard a single word wrong.
Heat waves rippled out from the thin summer quilt, and the air conditioning had little effect. Xu Yanfeng gently stroked her sweaty cheek, his voice filled with tiny gasps, very tempting: "Who is prettier?"
Xia Xi couldn't even remember what the man in the video looked like. He was there, his handsome face, his straight chest, his well-defined abdominal muscles...
"Why don't you answer?" He asked without stopping his movements, and his force became stronger instead of lighter.
Xia Xi bit her lower lip, and the sound that escaped was so strange, as if it wasn't her own. Her eyelids were burning, and she blinked slowly twice, her words breaking into pieces: "You, it's you."
"Me what?"
"You're the prettiest."
