Xia Xuan got up at around seven o'clock, had breakfast, went back to her room, turned on her computer and continued drawing.
She was concentrating on the painting in front of her, which was at the coloring stage. Her cell phone rang for a long time before she pulled herself out of her thoughts and picked up the phone on the table to take a look.
A most unexpected name came into view - Miao Yijiajia.
Xia Xuan thought there was nothing much to talk about between them.
She didn't answer the call until the last ring.
Perhaps guessing what she was thinking, Miao Yijia sent a text message: "Cousin, let's meet. I have a few words to tell you. I know you don't want to see me, but this concerns my cousin, so I think you should know."
Xia Xuan frowned subconsciously. The term "cousin-in-law" seemed really ironic.
She put her phone down and continued drawing.
However, she couldn't calm down, and her paintings could never achieve the feeling she wanted. Xia Xuan closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
She grabbed her phone and typed a few words: "What do you want to say?"
After hesitating for a long time, Xia Xuan clicked send.
Miao Yijia quickly replied: "Let's talk when we meet. I'm in the small park near your house."
Xia Xuan sat quietly for a few minutes, then suddenly stood up, put on a cardigan, and walked out of the room.
Su Jinru was cleaning the house, and Xia Yue sent Youyou to school. The morning light came in through the window, and the whole place was quiet and peaceful.
"Mom, I'm going out for a while." Xia Xuan said.
Su Jinru leaned on the mop handle with her arm and straightened up. She didn't ask her where she was going. She secretly hoped that she could go out for a walk, breathe some fresh air, change the environment and change her mood. It would be suffocating to stay in the house all the time. "Will you be back at noon?"
Xia Xuan: "I'll be back soon."
She only brought a cell phone with her and walked to a small park less than 400 meters away from the community.
Some old men and women have not finished their morning exercises yet. Wearing comfortable cotton and silk clothes, some are practicing Tai Chi, some are playing diabolo, and some are dancing with fans. It is very lively.
Xia Xuan saw Miao Yijiajia on a stone bench, slowed down her pace and walked over.
Miao Yijia raised her eyelashes, and Xia Xuan realized that she looked very bad. She didn't have the triumphant air of a winner at all, and even looked a little embarrassed. Xia Xuan didn't know what she had been through, and she didn't want to know.
She decided to strike first. "What exactly do you want to say to me? Last time Chen Songbai's parents came to my house to make trouble, I made it clear that I agreed to divorce and make room for you. Besides, my second sister has already talked to Chen Songbai and persuaded him to agree. I don't know why you still need to see me."
Miao Yijia said self-deprecatingly: "Is Chen Songbai convinced? He's not."
Xia Xuan frowned: "It's none of my business."
"I'm pregnant," Miao Yijia said. "I can wait, but the baby in my belly can't. He's still refusing to divorce me, so I have no protection. I can only come to you."
Xia Xuan was stunned for a moment, with those four words echoing in her ears. Her gaze slowly drooped and landed on Miao Yijiajia's belly, which had not yet bulged.
She is pregnant.
She was pregnant with Chen Songbai's child.
At this moment, Xia Xuan felt complicated. She was unable to give birth and could not give Chen Songbai a child, but other women could.
Xia Xuan breathed heavily, opened her mouth, then closed it again, not knowing what else to say. A long moment passed before she managed to remain calm, repeating word by word, "I said, it's none of my business."
"Why is it none of your business?" Miao Yijia stood up excitedly, holding her hands, and said with tears in her eyes, "I beg you, my child needs a father. Please stop getting entangled with my cousin. Can you please persuade him to get a divorce quickly?"
Xia Xuan didn't want to have any physical contact with her. She felt disgusted. "You're really weird. Don't you understand me? I don't disagree with the divorce. I've also tried to persuade Chen Songbai. It just so happens that I also want to be free and don't want to get involved in this sick relationship of yours."
Miao Yijia grabbed her and turned her around, her emotions becoming even more intense. "You're lying! You don't want to let go of Chen Songbai at all. You want to hold on to him so that he can get rid of me and the baby in my belly, and then you can be together again."
Xia Xuan shook her head: "You are wrong. Your existence is like a thorn, forever stuck in my flesh. It is impossible for him and I to be together again."
The longer time dragged on, the clearer her mind became. She had already passed the initial stage of entanglement, pain, and struggle, and now she just wanted to cut the Gordian knot and return to her own peaceful life.
The elderly men and women doing morning exercises were drawn to the noise and turned to watch. They saw two girls tugging and struggling. Suddenly, one of them fell down the stairs, tumbling down eight or nine steps to a small fountain at the bottom. The other girl was stunned, her hands suspended in mid-air, staring blankly at the girl below, groaning in pain.
The enthusiastic old man and woman ran over and shouted anxiously: "Why don't you call 120 quickly? Oh my God, why is there so much blood?"
"This is not right, it looks like..." The experienced aunt noticed something, but was afraid that her judgment was wrong, so she didn't dare to say it directly.
However, the aunt soon realized that her judgment was correct. The girl lying on the ground covered her stomach with her hands, and beads of sweat quickly covered her forehead: "My child, save my..."
Xia Xuan's face turned pale, and she took out her cell phone as if waking up from a dream. With trembling fingers, she dialed the emergency number.
An ambulance arrived, taking the nearly unconscious Miao Yijia to the hospital. Xia Xuan had no choice but to accompany them. Along the way, she listened to Miao Yijia's hoarse cries of pain, her heart pounding with anxiety.
It had nothing to do with her. Miao Yijiajia was the one who stepped back during the argument and fell down the stairs without noticing.
Bright red blood flowed down her legs, staining her skirt. Can the child be saved?
