The competition began on the first day after the New Year's Day holiday. The venue was set at the Junrui Hotel under the Xu Group and it lasted for three days. Each participating design company was required to keep the presentation time within fifteen minutes.
The eight-member team representing Boya Design Company packed up in two cars and headed to Junrui Hotel early in the morning.
The atmosphere in the car was serious at first, but halfway through the journey, someone couldn't help but yell, "I'm so nervous, I'm going to throw up! I wasn't this nervous even on the way to the exam center for the college entrance exam."
"Something promising."
"If you have something to show for it, stop shaking your legs. It makes me shake too. Don't sit next to me anymore."
In a word, everyone in the car lost their composure, and the sound of puffs continued, and the atmosphere finally became less tense.
Forty minutes later, two cars pulled up in front of the Junrui Hotel. Several other cars were already parked nearby, all of them design teams like them, participating in the competition, as well as those from other places.
They were competitors, and when they got out of the car and looked at each other, sparks flew in the air.
"Mr. Xia, what a coincidence that you are here too." One of the middle-aged men who got out of the Mercedes-Benz walked up and took the initiative to greet Xia Xi.
Boya's colleagues all looked at the man, not recognizing him.
Xia Xi responded politely: "Vice President Zhang, long time no see. I didn't expect to run into you here."
Gao Ge didn't ride in the same car as Xia Xi, but got out of another one. She was slightly surprised to see the two of them chatting. Others might not know Vice President Zhang, but she had seen him before.
Zhang Wanli of Chengbai Design Company is not only the vice president, but also the design director.
Chengbai is one of the top design companies in South City, much larger than Boya and established much earlier. Their vice president was surprisingly polite to Xia Xi. This was exactly what puzzled Gao Ge.
Zhang Wanli smiled, his tone full of regret: "It's a pity that I couldn't bring you to Chengbai back then."
Xia Xi smiled back: "Chengbai is very good, I know my own abilities are limited."
"You are just too modest." Zhang Wanli said, "If you change your mind one day, remember to contact me. Chengbai's door is always open to you."
"Thank you, Vice President Zhang, for your kindness."
Zhang Wanli glanced at the others around Xia Xi, his eyes narrowed. "Let's not talk about anything else for now. This time we're going to be rivals. I look forward to you shining in the competition."
Xia Xi replied, "I'm also looking forward to Cheng Bo's work."
The two sides separated for a short while and then walked towards the hotel together.
Unable to contain his curiosity, Xiao Pei followed Xia Xi and asked her, "Mr. Xia, are you familiar with the vice president of Chengbai Design?"
"Not very well," Xia Xi said briefly. "We met abroad when I was still in school. He wanted to recruit me to be a designer at Chengbai, but I refused. After graduation, he invited me again, but I still refused."
"Oh my god, you even rejected Chengbai's olive branch. You're so awesome. Come to think of it, I still don't know which school you graduated from."
Xia Xi was an airborne soldier and did not go through the interview process, so she had never heard of her resume from the Human Resources Department.
Xia Xi said as they walked, "I studied architecture at Nancheng University for my undergraduate degree, but I didn't finish. Later, I went to the University of London to study architectural design and manufacturing."
"I suddenly remembered that our President Lu is also from the University of London, so you two are..."
"He was my senior, and we both had the same advisor during our doctoral studies."
"No wonder."
Gao Ge was shocked several times when she heard the conversation between the two. First, Chengbai's vice president was so warm to Xia Xi, and now she learned that she and President Lu were fellow students when they studied abroad. This also explained why President Lu was so considerate of her.
Gao Ge's gaze fell on Xia Xi's profile. She looked normal when talking to people, without a trace of pride or showing off. She stopped in front of the elevator and reached out to press the up button.
The woman in front of me is no different from the one before, but what is different about her?
Gao Ge always used to argue with her about no reason, but now he was silent.
The elevator reached the eighth floor and stopped. A group of people emerged, Xia Xi leading the way, heading in the same direction. Their steps were unison, majestic and impressive, evoking the atmosphere of ancient battles.
The large conference room could accommodate hundreds of people. A drawing of lots determined the order of the submissions. Xia Xi, representing Boya, stepped forward and drew a number. After unfolding the paper and examining it, he reported to the team members behind him, "We'll meet tomorrow afternoon."
Everyone looked happy: "Xia Gong is very lucky, our demonstration position is neither at the front nor at the bottom."
During the competition, other companies can stay and observe, or leave on their own. People generally choose to stay because they want to see other companies' works and have a basic understanding in advance.
As the saying goes, knowing yourself and your enemy ensures victory in a hundred battles.
The door of the conference room opened again, and everyone turned to look, thinking that the design team of some company had arrived late, but they did not expect that the people who came were all noble, and were followed by several elites.
The senior executives of Xu Group at the scene stood up one after another, and all of them, whether old or young, looked at the leader with respect.
The team members who came to participate in the election didn't understand why and stood up as well.
Xu Yanfeng glanced over and saw Xia Xi in the crowd. She was wearing a light apricot tweed suit and a half-length accordion skirt of the same color. A thin black leather belt was tied around her waist, outlining her waistline. Her wavy hair was tied in a low ponytail, and her impactful and bright facial features were diluted a little by her cold temperament.
After a quick glance, Xu Yanfeng raised his hand and gestured for everyone to sit down. Then he took off his black coat and handed it to the assistant beside him. He put on the smoky gray suit underneath and sat down in the main seat.
The news spread quickly, and within a moment, everyone at the scene knew that the person in front of them was the current leader of the Xu Group.
