Chapter 75 How could they possibly get married?

There was no way to escape the cocktail party, so Xia Xi accepted his fate and went home after get off work.

The clothes she was wearing were not suitable for formal social occasions. She was in a hurry to go out in the morning and had no time to dress up. She just pulled out a gray base shirt from the closet and put on a woolen coat.

She always felt a little tight around her neck in the morning, until Huang Shiyu came to deliver some information to her. He looked at her for a long time and finally asked, "Sister Xi, are you wearing your undershirt inside out?" There was something wrong with the collar.

Xia Xi realized that she had put it on the wrong way round, no wonder it was so tight around her neck.

She ran to the bathroom and changed, and finally felt comfortable.

Therefore, you should never wear the clothes you randomly grabbed in the morning to a cocktail party, as they will make you the focus of the entire banquet hall - a different kind of focus.

When they got home, Su Jinru had already picked up the two children from kindergarten. Xia Xi walked into the room while explaining the situation to her: "Mom, I won't be home for dinner, so please cook less."

Su Jinru was washing fruit for the children and the old lady in the kitchen. Upon hearing this, she turned off the faucet and came out to ask her, "Do you have a date?"

Xia Xi's face was filled with the word "speechless", but she still explained to her to prevent her from making random guesses: "A cocktail party is just a group of people staying in a banquet hall, eating, drinking and exchanging information from all walks of life. It's very boring."

"From what you said, there must be some outstanding elite men attending the event." Su Jinru followed her into the room. "Take a look and see if there are any suitable ones."

Xia Xi looked at the ceiling, and her mother spoke as if she was picking cabbages.

Su Jinru: "There must be people in your industry. It's not bad for a couple to work in the same field."

"Mom, I'm going to work, not for a blind date." Xia Xi opened the closet and chose a dress from it.

Su Jinru muttered, "Didn't you say we should eat, drink and communicate?"

Xia Xi took out a skirt and tried it on herself in front of the mirror, then answered her question: "We're talking about work, not topics like 'How old are you?' 'How many people are in your family?' 'Have you bought a house or a car?' 'How much savings do you have?'"

Su Jinru burst out laughing at her tone.

Xia Xi tucked the skirt back into her hand and took out another one to try on in front of her.

Su Jinru pointed to a white dress in the closet and said, "This one looks good." She paused, worried that she would catch a cold, since it was January after all. "Don't forget to bring a shawl. I know there's air conditioning inside, but it's still going to be cold when you get off the car and walk inside."

Xia Xi followed her mother's advice and chose the white one.

Su Jinru went out. Xia Xi changed her clothes in the room, sat down and put on a slightly delicate full makeup. Finally, she found the concealer, turned slightly sideways, faced the dressing mirror, dipped the concealer with a powder puff, and gently patted it on the teeth marks on her right shoulder, covering it up little by little.

The madness of my youth has become a burden that I am trying hard to hide now.

The car stopped in front of the hotel. Xia Xi pushed open the door and a gust of cold wind pricked her skin like needles. She shivered, wrapped her shawl tightly around her body, bent down to change her sneakers, took out a pair of high heels from the cloth bag, threw them on the ground, and put her feet in them to put them on.

Xia Xi got out of the car and took a step when she suddenly stumbled. A large, dry, warm hand supported her elbow, helping her to steady herself and prevent her from falling. Then a gentle voice rang in her ear: "Be careful."

Xia Xi held the car door with her other hand, looked up and saw Lu Mingji's handsome face, slightly surprised: "Why are you here at this time?"

When she stood firm, Lu Mingji released her hand, took the car keys from her hand naturally, and handed them to the parking attendant who came quickly: "Something delayed me."

The two walked into the hotel together. Xia Xi shivered and thought it was unfair. In such occasions, men could at least wear shirts and suits, but women could only wear skirts that exposed their arms and legs.

Walk faster, it won't be so cold inside the heated room. Thinking of this, Xia Xi quickened her pace and stumbled again. Lu Mingji supported her in time and said with a smile, "What's wrong with you? You're drunk before you even drink?"

Xia Xi tutted and looked down at her feet. "These are new shoes. I've never worn them before. They don't fit me well. I'm still breaking them in."

"Then you have to be careful and don't fall hard in there. There are so many people watching us." Lu Mingji simply put her hand on his arm and motioned her to hold his arm to avoid any more accidents.

Xia Xi was not used to this, so she pulled her hand back, slowed down her pace, and walked carefully holding the hem of her skirt. He was right, it would be embarrassing if she really fell: "Don't curse me."

Lu Mingji lowered his eyes and glanced at the part of his arm she had just touched. His face showed no unusual expression and he continued to smile: "It was clearly a kind reminder, not a curse at all."

They arrived a little late, and when they entered the banquet hall, many people looked at them. Xia Xi loosened her grip, and the hem of her skirt slipped from her palm, falling naturally to the ground, forming a pile of fabric at her feet.

"Your ex-girlfriend is here."

Tang Yizhuo, who was talking to Xu Yanfeng, was facing the entrance of the banquet hall. He saw Xia Xi appear at the first moment, raised his chin and reminded the person in front of him.

Tonight's cocktail party was attended not only by members of the design firm participating in the competition, but also by people from other fields, including Xu Yanfeng's personal friends. Tang Yizhou was one of them, having nothing better to do.

Xu Yanfeng turned around with the wine glass in his hand and saw Lu Mingji and Xia Xi coming in together.

Tang Yizhou's bad mouth is something he'll never change. He suffered a great loss last time, and it's only been a short time since then. The scar has healed and the pain has been forgotten. "Xia Xi was wearing a wedding dress today. When the two of them came over, I thought I was attending a wedding."
