After Xia Xi fell asleep, the last bit of consciousness told her that she was in a warm and comforting embrace. This embrace gave her a complete sense of security. She let go of all her guard, relaxed her body, and had a long dream.
In her dream, she went back to eight years ago.
The summer in Ganlin is not as hot as in Nancheng. Xia Xi had just woken up from a nap and was still drowsy. Her cell phone rang a few times. She reached for the remote control and raised the air conditioner temperature by two degrees.
24 degrees Celsius almost froze her to death.
Xia Xi wrapped the quilt around herself, turned over and planned to take a nap, but her cell phone kept ringing, as if it was fighting against her sleepy brain.
She pressed her sore eyelids and picked up her phone. The number of messages in the class group quickly reached fifty-three. Everyone was discussing moving to the dormitory. Before she could fully wake up, a question popped up in her mind.
Is the school going to change the dormitories?
Xia Xi looked up the historical news with confusion, only to find out that the source of everyone's discussion was not about moving dormitories, but about moving the entire campus.
The Department of Architecture at Nanjing University, along with several other departments, is located on the old campus for freshman and sophomore years, but I heard they'll be moving to the new campus for junior years. The new campus is the university's headquarters, and its infrastructure is vastly superior to that of the old campus.
I had only heard about the move before, but there was no definite confirmation. Now I have confirmed news.
The news in the class group is still coming out——
"God knows how excited I am. Nan Da Da finally remembered us who were living in the slums. I was so moved that I almost cried."
"I just checked the conditions of the cafeteria and dormitories at base camp. Is that a school? That's heaven!"
"I'm going back to school early to move my things, comrades. Is anyone coming with me? I'm from Ningcheng."
"I heard there are so many handsome guys and beautiful girls on the new campus that I can't count them all, hahahaha."
Xia Xi exited the group chat and opened the ticket purchasing app on her phone. A message in the group reminded her that she had to move into her dorm room early. The reason was simple: she had too much stuff and she definitely wouldn't be able to move it all on the first day of school.
Oh my god, her wonderful holiday life is about to come to an end.
The ticket purchasing interface showed that there were still many tickets left. Xia Xi was not in a hurry and tagged all members in the small group of three.
Xia Xi: "We're moving to the new campus, and I'm planning to go there early. Do you want to help me move? Don't refuse!"
Liang Yuan: "The new campus of Nanjing University, wouldn't that be very close to our school? We can have dinner together more often!"
Xia Xi: “Yeah, hehe. (#^.^#)”
Liang Yuan: "Moving things is such a troublesome task, you definitely can't do it alone, we will help you. Where is Zhou Du? Where is he? @Zhou Du"
After waiting for a few seconds, Zhou Du sent a message, saying simply: "Playing online, help me buy a ticket."
Xia Xi had their ID information and quickly bought three high-speed rail tickets from Ganlin to Nancheng.
The next day, the three of them rushed to South City.
Xia Xi had so much stuff that her two 28-inch suitcases were completely packed, leaving no room for anything, plus five or six large storage boxes. Fortunately, Zhou Du had the foresight to hire a large van to help her transport her belongings.
There was no way the old and dilapidated dormitory building had an elevator. Zhou Du went up and down the building several times and when he finally got into the car, he couldn't even straighten his back. There wasn't a single piece of dry cloth on his back; it was all soaked with sweat.
It takes one and a half hours to drive from the old campus to the new campus. When the road conditions are bad, it often takes two hours.
Liang Yuan looked out the window at the hustle and bustle of traffic and jokingly said, "No wonder you always say the old campus is a slum. The bus ride to the city takes enough time to go back to Ganlin."
Xia Xi opened her arms and said, "Congratulations! I've finally escaped from the sea of suffering and embraced a better life!"
Zhou Du was too tired to talk, so he didn't join in the two girls' conversation. He flicked the car's air conditioning vent with his slender fingers, directing it towards him. He leaned back in the chair, closed his eyes, and rested. He had grown his hair long during the summer vacation and tied it into a bun at the back of his head. He wore a white sleeveless shirt with vintage, distressed jeans, looking incredibly fashionable.
Arriving at the new campus, it was busy again. Zhou Du once again played the main role of laborer, moving Xia Xi's luggage to the fifth floor.
The new campus was truly different. The brick walls outside the dorms were a beautiful orange-red. A row of lush camphor trees grew as tall as three stories. Across the street, there was a bicycle shed and neatly arranged clothes drying poles, perfect for drying quilts. The buildings themselves were even more immaculately clean, with the faint scent of lemon freshener wafting through the hallways.
After entering the dormitory, Xia Xi sighed repeatedly about how hard life was in the past.
The dormitories on the old campus all sleep six, with bunk beds that creak like an old train when you roll over. There's not even a private bathroom, just a squat toilet, shared between two dormitories.
The new dormitory is a four-person room with a wooden bed and desk. The escalator has pedals instead of the wobbly stainless steel pipes that are about to fall apart. It also has a private bathroom, so you no longer have to queue up in the big bathhouse to take a shower.
The other three people in the dormitory had not arrived yet, so Xia Xi made his bed first and did not pack other things for the time being because it was getting late and it was time to go for lunch.
"I'm so tired. I don't want to eat anything. Just give me a bowl of cold noodles." Zhou Du sat back in the chair with his legs spread out, his chin resting on the back of the chair, and said weakly.
Xia Xi handed him a few tissues and had already made arrangements: "How about I take you to the cafeteria for lunch and treat you to a big dinner in the evening?"
Zhou Du took the tissue and wiped the sweat from his face, which was almost pouring down like a river. He made an OK sign with his other hand, indicating that it was feasible. Liang Yuan also agreed and nodded.
So, the three of them had lunch in the cafeteria of the new campus of Nanjing University. Afterwards, Liang Yuan and Zhou Du returned to Nancheng Information Vocational and Technical College, which was two streets away from Nanjing University, and agreed to meet in the evening.
