A familiar figure flashed by in his peripheral vision. Xu Yanfeng lightly stepped on the brakes and slowly slowed down the car. He saw that the person was Xia Xi, released the brakes, and drove past her.
"Hey, isn't that Xia Xi, my schoolmate?" Chen Mian, who was sitting in the passenger seat, also saw Xia Xi. There were few people around, and she stood out standing there alone. He exclaimed, "It's raining so hard and it's so late, how is she going to get home?"
Fang Huaiyuan and Yu Tingbo in the back seat looked around: "Where is it?"
"Drive past it. Look behind you, to the left, the girl in white pants outside the clothing store." Chen Mian pointed at them and then looked at Xu Yanfeng, who was indifferent in the driver's seat. "Why don't you give her a ride?"
Xu Yanfeng was very frugal with words: "I'm not familiar with it."
"Why aren't you familiar with her? She's been chasing you for days, don't tell me you don't remember her. You're the president of the student union, don't you take care of your subordinates?" Chen Mian glanced out the car window. It was raining heavily and there were no customers. Some stores were closed, the lights off. "Let me tell you, the security in this area is not good. There was a robbery before. I heard that a girl's gold earrings were snatched away, leaving a gash in her ear, and the blood was flowing..."
"Sizzle—"
It's the emergency brake noise.
The tires scraped against the muddy road, bringing the car to a steady stop. Xu Yanfeng's eyes remained calm as he watched the incessant Chen Mian. The latter, feeling slightly guilty, avoided his gaze, looking up at the roof of the car, and said stubbornly, "I'm telling the truth, believe it or not."
Xu Yanfeng tightened his grip on the steering wheel, paused for several seconds, and then restarted the car.
Chen Mian thought he was so cruel as to abandon Xia Xi without a care. As a result, the car passed the next intersection, did a U-turn, and three minutes later, it stopped on the side of the road facing Xia Xi.
Xu Yanfeng turned on the hazard lights to alert the person who was still waiting for the bus.
When he first saw her, he instinctively stepped on the brakes, wanting to give her a ride. It wasn't safe for a girl to be alone in this deserted place on a rainy night. Even though he didn't like her, he still had to be polite and didn't want her to get into any trouble. But he was also worried that this action would mislead her, that he was giving her hope, and that she would not give up pursuing him.
While hesitating, Chen Mian spoke, which gave him a reason to stop the car.
If she asked, she could say it was Chen Mian's idea and had nothing to do with him.
