Xia Xi couldn't persuade her grandmother, so she had to agree.
Before leaving, she told Xia Xuan not to open the door if a stranger came to look for someone.
Xia Xi drove the family car away, pursing her lips tightly all the way, suppressing the various emotions surging in her mind. She said slowly to her grandmother, "When we get there, I'll go to the hotel to find out what's going on. You just sit in the car and wait for me. I'll report anything to you. Is that okay with you?"
Grandma wore a short jacket, the air conditioner on in the car, but she still had her hands in her pockets, not believing that the Pei Shan Hotel had truly become someone else's. She remained calm and composed, saying, "Don't treat me like a child. I've experienced more than you have. If anything were to happen, I'd have more experience than you. You haven't even left school yet; you're the child."
Xia Xi's tense nerves relaxed for a moment at her grandmother's words, and a faint smile appeared on the corner of her lips: "No matter how experienced you are, you are old, and you have to admit your age."
Grandma also smiled, but after a brief moment, she stopped smiling and sighed, "Your father is a piece of shit. I felt something was wrong when he started messing around with that factory, but he insisted on doing it. I'm really old and couldn't stop him. And your mother is my only child. Life wasn't as good as it is now. I gave her everything I had, and later, when I made a fortune, I gave her everything too. She's never suffered in her life, and her mind is as pure as a child's. Your father can easily soften her heart with a little coaxing. I'm always worried she'll suffer, so I always keep her by my side. Your father often secretly complains about me being too controlling. I know all this. My love for your mother wasn't in vain. She's very filial and always puts me first. Life has been pretty smooth over the years. But it just happened in her old age. It's fate..."
Xia Xi is not a crybaby, but her eyes were filled with tears when she heard what her grandmother said.
Grandma was very dissatisfied with Xia Chenggang. Once she started talking, she couldn't stop: "Why do you think your mother gave birth to three children in a row? It's because your father wanted a son. If I hadn't tried my best to stop her, your mother would have given birth again." Thinking of her three well-behaved and obedient granddaughters, the grandmother couldn't feel too much resentment. Her tone softened, "Everything has its pros and cons. Otherwise, how would I have three granddaughters..."
Xia Xi raised her hand, wiped the corners of her eyes with her fingertips, and smiled.
We didn't chat for long before arriving at Peishan Hotel.
Unlike the "polite and courteous" scene Auntie Lin had described over the phone, a group of people, all dressed in black and tall and burly, blocked the main entrance. They looked quite intimidating. Customers came but didn't dare go in, and hurried away.
Xia Xi frowned, parked the car, and was about to tell the old lady something, but when she turned around, she saw her grandmother had already opened the car door and got out. Xia Xi's heart tightened, and she quickly locked the car and followed her to support her: "Please go slowly."
"Please move aside," my grandmother said sternly to the man in black who was blocking the road. "How can people do business when you're blocking the way here? It's broad daylight. I've never seen such unreasonable behavior!"
Seeing that the person speaking was an old lady, several men in black didn't take it seriously and waved their hands to drive her away: "Mind your own business and leave quickly..."
Xia Xi stepped forward and stood in front of her grandmother, saying coldly, "This is our family's restaurant. Who are you? Who told you to come here and cause trouble?"
The man in black looked at the grandfather and grandson for a few times, then stepped aside. One of them ran in and said something to their leader.
The man in charge was about forty years old, dressed in a suit and tie, but he looked more like a local tycoon than an elite. He had a beer belly, his hair was slicked back, and he was picking his teeth with a toothpick. He ordered a table full of dishes, and at first glance, they were all the restaurant's signature dishes, filling the table. Every dish showed signs of having been touched.
After his subordinate whispered in his ear, he placed one hand on the edge of the table and slowly turned sideways, recognizing the gray-haired old lady as Jiang Peishan. Peishan Hotel was named after her.
The man spat out the toothpick in his mouth, stood up, tugged at his collar, strode up to the old lady, bent slightly, with a smile on his face, looking friendly: "Are you the owner of this restaurant?" He asked knowingly.
"The owner of the restaurant is my daughter now, so it's the same if you tell me anything." The old lady's eyes were bright and she was not afraid.
"Let me introduce myself. My name is Wu Gengxin." The man still had a smile on his face, but he was saying something like, "You're not a serious boss. It's useless for me to talk to you. It would be more appropriate for you to ask your daughter to come."
Seeing this, the customers who were dining in the restaurant lost interest in watching the fun, put down their bowls and chopsticks, paid the bill and left.
After a period of commotion, there were not many customers left in the public area.
Grandma avoided all that nonsense and simply asked Wu Gengxin, "What do you mean when you say Peishan Hotel is yours?"
She looked at the men in black outside and said, "If you don't give me a reasonable explanation today, I'm going to call the police and ask them to seek justice."
Wu Gengxin chuckled upon hearing this, showing no fear at all. He pressed his tongue against his chin, nodded, and said slowly, "Alright, just call the police over. This way, I won't have to explain myself and end up being framed by you all for bullying an old man."
As he spoke, he sat back down, legs spread wide, his shoes tapping against the ground. He raised his chin and urged, "Call 110! What are you standing there for?"
Grandma was so angry that she wanted to argue with him, but was stopped by Xia Xi.
Xia Xi looked at the man leisurely eating cantaloupe with a fork and said calmly, "You say the restaurant is yours, but you have to provide evidence. Who would believe you if you just say it without any evidence?"
The man dropped his fork, slamming it onto the white porcelain plate with a crisp "ding" sound, and raised his hand to applaud her: "Well said."
He picked up a briefcase from an empty chair nearby, pulled out a document, opened it, and held it in front of Xia Xi. "College students can read. Open your eyes and read carefully. The signature and seal are all correct. It says that the Peishan Hotel has been transferred to me. Even if the police come, even if the king comes, this contract is authentic and valid."
