Chapter 67 The Old Man is Here

Chapter 67 The Old Man is Here

"Uncle Chi...he's coming straight over! The car...the car is already at the door!"

Yue Yue's panicked voice echoed in the stagnant air of the clinic.

Wu Suowei felt his heart sink suddenly and even his breathing stopped for a moment.

He subconsciously clenched his fists, his nails digging deep into his palms, trying to use the pain to awaken his stiff nerves.

Coming... so soon? Not even a chance to breathe!

He could almost imagine Chi Yuanduan's face that was intimidating without anger, his eyes that could see through people's hearts, and his emotionless voice...

"Don't panic." A low voice sounded.

Chi Cheng stood up.

There was still no expression on his face, but the aura around him became sharper, and his gaze finally fell on Wu Suowei.

The little guy's face was as white as paper, his body was trembling slightly, and his eyes were full of panic.

This look made Chi Cheng feel even more heartbroken.

Don’t worry... I’m still here, you don’t have to hold up the sky even if it falls.

Chi Cheng snorted in his heart, stretched out his long legs, and walked a few steps to Wu Suowei.

Wu Suowei felt a huge shadow looming over him, bringing with it a familiar, strong sense of oppression.

He subconsciously wanted to step back, but Chi Cheng grabbed his wrist.

The force was so strong, with unquestionable control, that it even hurt a little.

But this sudden pain and confinement was like a shot of adrenaline, instantly piercing Wu Suowei's nerves paralyzed by fear.

Chi Cheng...

Wu Suowei suddenly looked up and met Chi Cheng's bottomless eyes.

There was no comfort or warmth in it, only an almost cold calmness and a sense of command... "Stand up straight."

"Stand up straight, dear," Chi Cheng's voice was not loud, but it had a metallic quality that reached Wu Suowei's ears clearly. "Stand up straight and hold your head up."

The slight dull feeling from his wrist miraculously dispelled some of Wu Suwei's panic.

Yes! What am I afraid of?! I've lived my life over again!

In his previous life, he was scared to death by his father's words. Is it going to happen again in this life?!

A feeling of humiliation and unwillingness that had been suppressed to the extreme suddenly rushed to the top of his head!

No! Absolutely not! Wu Suowei, stand up straight!

Don't you want to grab something?!

Now's your chance! If you back down, you're done!

He took a deep breath, his lungs burning.

He forced himself to ignore the pain in his wrist, ignore Chi Cheng's pressing gaze, and ignore the sound of the engine getting closer and closer outside the door.

He gritted his teeth, straightened his back with all his strength, and raised his chin.

Although his face was still pale and there was still panic in his eyes, he still had the ruthlessness and stubbornness to fight to the death.

He no longer looked at Chi Cheng, but stared at the heavy door of the clinic, as if an enemy was about to walk in who he had to defeat head-on.

Guo Chengyu and Jiang Xiaoshuai were both stunned.

They watched as Wu Suowei straightened his body and spine instantly under Chi Cheng's "correction".

The fear in his eyes was still there, but with an added ruthlessness of risking everything.

The change was too fast, too abrupt, and too... shocking.

“Squeak—”

The heavy door of the villa was pushed open by the butler from the outside.

A majestic figure appeared at the door.

His dark grey Mao suit was ironed meticulously, his hair was neatly combed, his face was serious, his eyes were sharp as an eagle, and he had a powerful aura of someone who had been in a high position for a long time, which instantly made the air in the entire living room freeze.

Chi Yuanduan's gaze immediately fell precisely on the center of the clinic.

He saw his son Chi Cheng standing upright, and the young man next to Chi Cheng, Wu Suowei, whose wrist was tightly held by Chi Cheng, with a pale face but straight back and stubborn and fierce eyes.

That look...

Chi Yuanduan narrowed his eyes slightly.

It was not the cowardice, flattery or fawning he had expected, but a mixture of fear, unwillingness and desperation.

Like a little wolf cub that has been cornered and is baring its teeth.

Quite interesting.

A hint of sneer crossed Chi Yuanduan's mind.

But this little "meaning" was not enough to change his judgment.

His gaze didn't even linger on Guo Chengyu and Jiang Xiaoshuai for a second. He walked into the clinic with steady steps.

"Why is the old man here?" Chi Cheng spoke first, his voice steady and without any emotion.

He held Wu Suowei's wrist with his hand and did not loosen it at all.

Chi Yuanduan stood in the middle of the living room, his eyes sweeping sharply across the place where Chi Cheng was holding Wu Suowei's wrist, and then back to Wu Suowei's face, with scrutiny and undisguised contempt.

"Is it him?" Chi Yuanduan's voice was not loud, but it carried a metallic, cold quality. "Wu... Suo Wei?"

He called out the name accurately and had obviously investigated it thoroughly.

Wu Suowei felt that Chi Cheng's strength on his wrist had increased a little, as if reminding him not to be cowardly.

He took a deep breath and forced himself to meet Chi Yuanduan's freezing gaze.

Damn it, let’s fight!

"Hello Uncle Chi, I'm Wu Suowei." Wu Suowei's voice sounded with a little imperceptible tremor, but it was extremely clear, even... a little too loud.

He tried hard to force a smile, but his facial muscles were stiff and he could only produce an arc that was uglier than crying.

He subconsciously wanted to pull back the hand that Chi Cheng was holding, so as to appear less passive, but Chi Cheng's hand was as still as an iron clamp.

Chi Yuanduan did not respond to his greeting, as if he didn't hear it.

His gaze was like an ice-cold scalpel, sweeping back and forth across Wu Suowei's body, from his clothes that were clearly not of his budget, to his pale face that he pretended to be calm, and finally landing on his eyes that were filled with courage and a hint of... rusticity.

"Where is your home? What do your parents do?" Chi Yuanduan spoke without any fluctuation in his voice.

Here it comes! The same opening as in the previous life! Condescending questioning!

Wu Suowei's heart felt like it was hit by a heavy hammer.

He felt the blood rushing to his head and his cheeks were burning.

He opened his mouth and wanted to say the name of the small county town.

No! Wu Suowei! If I had to do it all over again, would you still be like a pig waiting to be slaughtered, being nailed to the pillar of shame based on your background?!

A strong sense of anger and unwillingness instantly overwhelmed the fear.

He suddenly raised his head, his eyes becoming more stubborn and ruthless, even with a hint of reckless provocation.

He no longer tried to smile, and his voice rose slightly with excitement, with an almost reckless frankness.

"Uncle Chi! You don't need to ask! I know what you want to say!" He spoke quickly, like beans pouring out of a bamboo tube, "I'm from a small place, with no money, no power, and no background. I'm not worthy of entering your Chi family! I'm not worthy of your son Chi Cheng, who has a bright future! Right?!"

As soon as these words were spoken, the entire living room fell into deathly silence, and even the air seemed to have stopped flowing.
