Chapter 40 I'm So Stupid
"Who is it? Coming!" Jiang Xiaoshuai's voice came closer and closer, accompanied by the sound of slippers tapping.
The security door was opened a crack with a "click", and Jiang Xiaoshuai's face, with a bit of curiosity and impatience at being disturbed, peeked out.
There were two people standing outside the door. Wu Suowei had a pale face and his eyes were complicated to the point of being indescribable. Chi Cheng next to him had a face so gloomy that water could drip out of it, but his eyes were fixed on Wu Suowei.
Jiang Xiaoshuai froze instantly.
"Da...Dawei? Chi...Young Master Chi?" Jiang Xiaoshuai's voice changed, his eyes wandered around guiltily, and he subconsciously wanted to close the door.
Guo Chengyu also came over after hearing the sound. Seeing the scene at the door, especially the low pressure of the silent confrontation between Chi Cheng and Wu Suowei, the ease on his face disappeared instantly, replaced by a trace of guilt and solemnity.
He stood beside Jiang Xiaoshuai calmly, trying to block his view with his body.
Wu Suowei took a deep breath and forced himself to suppress the turbulent waves in his heart.
For the time being, he suppressed the shocking speculation about the title of "Dabao" and Chi Cheng's possible rebirth in the bottom of his heart. Now, he had to settle the account in front of him first.
Wu Suowei walked straight into the living room, his eyes swept sharply over Guo Chengyu, and finally fixed on Jiang Xiaoshuai, who was shrinking his neck and trying to escape. His tone was frighteningly calm, even with a hint of deliberate innocence: "Jiang Xiaoshuai..."
"Huh?" Jiang Xiaoshuai felt his scalp tingle when his name was called.
Wu Suowei pulled the corner of his mouth, revealing a cold smile: "You lied to me, huh?"
His eyes flicked between Jiang Xiaoshuai and Guo Chengyu. "Did you act realistically? Did you cry genuinely? Did the eye drops work?"
Jiang Xiaoshuai's scalp tingled and his back felt cold. He immediately pointed at Guo Chengyu, who was watching the show nearby, and without hesitation, shifted the blame: "No... It wasn't my idea! It was him! It was all Guo Chengyu's idea! He said that this would help you see clearly... see clearly..."
He was stuck and didn't dare to say "recognize Chi Cheng's feelings" for fear of adding fuel to the fire.
Guo Chengyu: “…”
He glanced helplessly at Jiang Xiaoshuai, who had instantly betrayed his teammates, and could only bite the bullet and continue, trying to muddy the waters: "Ahem... Actually... I also listened to Chi Cheng..."
He turned his gaze to Chi Cheng, with a hint of "I'm sorry, brother".
Chi Cheng's face became even gloomier.
He wanted to say that it was Yue Yue's idea, but Yue Yue himself was not here at the moment.
Looking at Wu Suowei's increasingly cold eyes, Chi Cheng felt a tightness in his heart.
He took a step forward, trying to get closer to Wu Suowei, and said in an unprecedentedly humble and apologetic voice: "Weiwei, I'm sorry, we..."
He wanted to say that he just wanted to know your feelings, wanted to hold you tightly by his side, and didn't want to lose you again.
But these words seemed so pale and powerless in the face of Wu Suowei's anger at the moment.
Wu Suowei seemed not to hear his apology, or he didn't care at all.
His mind was now filled with the words he had just heard outside the door. His gaze was still fixed on Guo Chengyu. He interrupted Chi Cheng and said in a low, yet penetrating voice, "Guo Chengyu..."
"Huh?" Guo Chengyu's heart skipped a beat.
"What you just said in there..." Wu Suowei stared into his eyes and asked word by word, "What disappeared...what is it?"
Guo Chengyu's heart sank suddenly.
His conversation with Jiang Xiaoshuai in the house was overheard?!
He subconsciously looked at Chi Cheng.
Chi Cheng's expression became even uglier, his eyes filled with a strong warning and a hint of... pleading?
Guo Chengyu instantly understood what Chi Cheng meant—he couldn't reveal his rebirth! At least not now!
He immediately put on his usual cynical grin, trying to get away with it, and even nudged Jiang Xiaoshuai next to him with his elbow: "Ah? That? Ugh! You're just talking nonsense! You were just teasing our Xiaoshuai! Right, Xiaoshuai?"
He desperately winked at Jiang Xiaoshuai.
Although Jiang Xiaoshuai was confused and didn't understand why Wu Suowei kept harping on this, when he saw Guo Chengyu's winking hints and Chi Cheng's ugly face, he immediately had an idea and nodded like a chicken pecking at rice.
"Oh, yes, yes! He made it up! A horror story! It's not scary at all! Really!" He tried hard to force a relaxed smile, but it looked very stiff.
Wu Suowei quietly watched their clumsy performance, watched Guo Chengyu's forced smile, watched Jiang Xiaoshuai's guilty agreement, and finally, his eyes fell on Chi Cheng's face full of tension and worry.
The only remaining, faint spark of hope in his heart that he was wrong was completely extinguished.
Instead, there was a cold anger at being fooled and made a fool of, and a bottomless sadness.
"..." Wu Suowei was silent for a full ten seconds, and the atmosphere was so oppressive that it was suffocating.
Then, he suddenly forced an extremely bitter smile, looking ahead with empty eyes, as if talking to himself.
"Really? You're just making this up..."
He paused, his voice was very soft, but it was like a heavy hammer hitting everyone's heart, especially Chi Cheng and Guo Chengyu.
He decided not to test it any further. What was there to be unclear about?
Chi Cheng and Guo Chengyu, both of them knew everything, from the very beginning.
Wu Suowei took a deep breath and looked directly at Chi Cheng, but his words were addressed to everyone, and his tone was filled with a deliberately feigned, chilling calmness.
"Then do you know... what I was thinking when I was being entangled by Huang Long?"
As soon as these words came out, Chi Cheng's body shook violently.
The smile on Guo Chengyu's face completely disappeared, and his eyes became extremely solemn.
Jiang Xiaoshuai was completely confused. "What dragon? What are you entangled with? Dawei, you...what are you talking about?"
Wu Suowei didn't look at him and continued talking to himself, his tone as calm as if he was telling someone else's story: "I'm afraid of death... I'm especially afraid of... that feeling of suffocation... It's so uncomfortable..."
His voice trembled slightly, "But besides fear... there's only one person left in my mind..."
He slowly turned his head and his eyes finally fell on Chi Cheng's face, his eyes full of pain and despair.
"It's all Chi Cheng."
"I was wondering...if I died...would he be a little bit...sad?"
"I was wondering...whether he would...feel a little bit reluctant to leave me?"
Wu Suowei's voice became lower and lower, with a heavy nasal tone, and his eyes were red, but he gritted his teeth to prevent the tears from falling.
He smiled at himself, and his smile was uglier than crying.
"Thinking about it now...I was so stupid."
"Stupid."
"Bang!" A muffled sound.
Chi Cheng could no longer hold on and suddenly leaned one hand on the cabinet next to him. The veins on the back of his hand bulged and his knuckles turned white from the force.
Chi Cheng felt like he was being tortured to death listening to every word he said.
It was as if he had returned to that moment again, the strength with which Wu Suowei gripped his wrist, the pain of Huang Long biting his arm, and the icy sensation that splashed everywhere when the knife pierced his arm.
"Chi Cheng... likes snakes..."
"Weiwei! Hold on! The hospital is almost there!"
"Broken ribs, damaged internal organs... We tried our best..."
The immense pain and self-blame overwhelmed him like a tsunami.
Guo Chengyu's expression also turned extremely ugly, and the look he gave Wu Suowei was filled with shock and... a hint of understanding.
Wu Suowei, he is back.
