Chapter 16 Turning Point
Mingxi woke up very early that day. Ever since Zhenzhen was handed over to the old lady for care, Mingxi's mood has been low recently. She tossed and turned every day and had difficulty falling asleep. Even if she fell asleep, she would always wake up easily. Mingxi knew that something was wrong with her.
Mingxi propped herself up and looked out the window. The sky was slightly bluish-white. Mingxi felt depressed and suddenly wanted to go out for a walk.
She put on her clothes quietly, wrapped herself in a thick cloak, avoided the old woman who was on night watch, and walked out of the courtyard. The snow in the garden had melted away, leaving no traces behind, but adding a chill to the winter. Mingxi walked aimlessly, and a cold fragrance entered her nose. This fragrance seemed to have some attraction, tempting Mingxi to find it. Mingxi followed the fragrance to the waterside pavilion in the garden, and her eyes were captured by the scene in front of her. The curling
morning mist covered the pavilion, and the mist and the cold wind made the Sheng Mansion even more confusing. Only the faint fragrance from her nose reminded her that she was still in the world.
Mingxi was in the misty morning fog, her figure looming in the plum forest. Suddenly, she had an idea to get out of the fog. She began to speed up her pace and ran faster. When she was panting, she saw a bright yellow rising in the east. Suddenly, she smiled.
When Mingxi returned to the courtyard, it was in a mess. The parrot was even more worried when it woke up one night and found that its master was missing. It was afraid that Mingxi was harmed by Lin Qinshuang. When they saw Mingxi coming back, they breathed a sigh of relief. The parrot saw that Mingxi was wet, so it quickly lit a charcoal basin for her, changed her clean underwear and stuffed her into the quilt.
The parrot wiped the moisture off Mingxi's hair with a handkerchief in his hand, and kept muttering: "You should take good care of yourself. It's only been a few days since you gave birth, and you dare to go out in such a cold weather. My mother said that you should avoid getting cold during the confinement period. If you get cold during the confinement period, you will suffer from pain for the rest of your life. I know I'm not happy these days, but you shouldn't ruin your body. If the girl knew that you didn't take care of yourself, I don't know how many tears she would shed. You have a son and a daughter now, and you can't... Things have to be dealt with later, there are still many days ahead, you have to take good care of yourself before you can compete with that guy over there, if you fail, the young master will be taken care of by the old lady, but what about the girl…”
The parrot kept nagging, Mingxi did not find her annoying, he just listened with a smile, the parrot chattered a lot but Mingxi did not respond, he tilted his head to look at Mingxi’s expression, he saw Mingxi was smiling, this made the parrot confused and even more worried.
"Parrot, you are a good girl! I know you are doing this for my own good. I just feel depressed and want to go out for a walk."
Mingxi knew that Parrot was the most tired these days. Zhuli was recuperating, Zhulou and Luluo were gone, and there was not much manpower in their courtyard. In times of emergency, they dared not trust outsiders, so Parrot had to worry about everything. Mingxi did not want to make Parrot worry anymore. She could see that Parrot treated her sincerely during these days.
The parrot was controlled by Mingxi's serious expression. Her master always gave people such a sincere feeling, which made the parrot want to be nice to her. "My dear, you are used to coaxing me with nice words. Anyway, this is the only time. My dear, you can't scare me like this next time."
Mingxi raised three fingers, "I promise I won't do it again!"
After wiping her hair, Mingxi felt a little sleepy and wanted to sleep. Maybe her mood suddenly became clear. The parrot covered her with a quilt and closed the door, letting her have a good rest.
Mingxi slept until the evening. There was no light in the room. Mingxi stretched and didn't make any sound. She began to review the things that happened on the day of her birth in the quiet night. She wanted to unravel the whole incident and hope to find clues from it.
Not long after Mingxi fell into deep thought, she heard voices from outside the door, "Sister Parrot, is my mother not awake yet? I've already had dinner at my grandmother's house, and played with Zhenzhen for a long time before coming back, but mother hasn't woken up yet. Mother can sleep better than Zhenzhen."
Mingxi heard Minglan say these words. The parrot in the back probably lowered its voice for fear of disturbing itself, so Mingxi couldn't hear clearly. She was hungry too, so she called out to them, "Ming'er, Parrot, come in."
The voices of the two people outside the door paused in their whispers, and then two footsteps were heard. The parrot came in and turned on the light, and brought a pillow for Mingxi to sit on the bed. Minglan ran straight to her bed, "Mother, you're finally awake."
"Mother is hungry!" As soon as Mingxi finished speaking, the parrot went out to serve food.
Minglan moved a small stool to sit beside her bed and told her about the interesting things that happened today, mostly about Zhenzhen. She said Zhenzhen loved to sleep and was sleeping eight out of ten times she went to see him. She said Zhenzhen had big and round eyes and liked her very much and would smile when she saw her. She also said that her grandmother treated Zhenzhen very well and would hold her until she was tired every day before giving her to the nanny. She also said that the nanny had eaten well at her grandmother's place and her body was plump... Mingxi listened quietly, asking questions and praising from time to time.
The parrot came in and saw such a warm picture. Today, the young lady had energy and spirit, and the whole person began to radiate light again. Even if she was disheveled, it could not hide her brightness. The parrot smiled.
"Little girl, stop talking, eat something to fill your stomach. Little girl hasn't eaten anything for a day, drink some porridge to warm your stomach." Mingxi did as she was told, and continued to listen to Minglan while eating. When Mingxi finished eating, Minglan had almost finished talking, so Mingxi asked her to go back and rest. After
Minglan left, Mingxi asked the parrot: "Parrot, think about it carefully, is there anything else that we might have overlooked?"
The parrot pondered for a while, "Little girl, there is nothing, we have wiped out all the traces that we can think of."
"I still believe that the law will catch up with us!" The parrot was confused again, "Miss, what does the law catch up with us mean?"
Mingxi explained to the parrot, "It means that if a bad person does a bad thing, she will be punished. Since she did it, there must be evidence left. People can be bribed, they can be silenced, and traces can be eliminated, but there will always be something left. We just haven't found it yet!"
Mingxi rekindled his fighting spirit and also infected the parrot, "Miss, I will go to Zhulou and Luluo's house tomorrow to see if I can find anything. The two of them were arranged by Lin Qinshuang to keep an eye on you. They must have done more than just production. Maybe they have done other things. As long as we can find it out and present it to the master, we will have something to say, and Lin Qinshuang will have no excuse."
Mingxi also likes to see the parrot full of energy. "Okay, go and look for them. Turn their house upside down. I don't believe you won't find anything!"
Encouraged by Mingxi, the parrot wanted to light a lamp and fight at night, but when he thought of Zhulou and Luluo's belongings that were still there, and no one from their family came to clean them up, he couldn't help but feel sad for them, so he told Mingxi, "Girl, do you think Zhulou and Luluo's family know that they will be in trouble if they take them back? Lifeless? They should know, so when Zhulou and Luluo left, no one in the family dared to come to our yard to pack up their things. They must be feeling guilty!"
Mingxi didn't expect the silly parrot to ask such a heavy question, but she felt that only such a parrot would say it directly, "They should know it in their hearts, but a daughter's life can be exchanged for the lives of the whole family, and they also know how to make choices."
Parrot was a little sad, "Luluo ran away by herself. She said her father was a drunkard and beat her mother to death. It was her eldest brother who raised them. Lin Qinshuang beat her eldest brother to death. Her eldest brother had just married and had no children, so she ran away without hesitation. Zhu Lou hesitated for a while, but still went."
Mingxi was very surprised. He didn't expect there was such a story here. If so, would Lin Qinshuang still use these two families? She was so cruel. Wouldn't the people below feel chilled? What Mingxi didn't know was that Lin Qinshuang really continued to use these two families. These two families really became Mingxi's helpers in overthrowing Lin Qinshuang in the future.
"Girl, speaking of Zhu Lou, I remembered something strange."
Mingxi raised her eyebrows, "What strange thing?" The parrot tilted its head, its expression full of confusion, "Zhu Lou didn't say anything when she left, but her hand kept pointing at her bed, and her eyes were weird."
Mingxi suddenly sat up straight, and the parrot was startled. Mingxi wondered if Zhu Lou's action was hinting at something, "Parrot, go to their room tomorrow and take a good look at Zhu Lou's bed to see if there is anything hidden inside." The parrot agreed.
The next day, the parrot went to search Zhulou and Luluo's rooms. Their rooms were clean and tidy, but she found nothing. At this time, the parrot remembered Mingxi's instructions and searched Zhulou's bed again. Still nothing was found. The parrot was already wondering if the little girl had guessed wrong. Before Zhulou left, he pointed at something unwillingly, but Zhulou's eyes appeared in the parrot's mind again. She shook her head desperately but couldn't get rid of that look. The parrot accepted her fate and had to search Zhulou's bed inch by inch.
Suddenly, an idea flashed in her mind. Could it be sewn into the quilt? The parrot found a pair of scissors and unpacked Zhu Lou's bedding. As expected, he found a square piece of cloth in a corner of the quilt. When he unfolded it, he found that it was a handkerchief with red blood stains on it. The blood stains were crooked and connected into a piece. Maybe it was a word.
