The door to the private room was pushed open, and Dong Shan entered. He bowed to Ji Bochang, Zhao Yong, and Jiang Ming respectively.
There was an information gap between him and Jiang Ming regarding their "understanding".
Dong Shan only thought that the handsome man in front of him was a prince of Qin, and he didn't know that he was the damned Jiang Tingzhang who had brought him a series of troubles and castrated his group of underlings.
Jiang Ming only knew that he was Dong Shan, but he did not know that Dong Shan already knew his true identity as a prince of Qin.
Two mortal enemies are able to maintain a facade of harmony because of an 'information gap'...
"What is it?"
Ji Bochang lifted his eyelids slightly and asked lazily.
"Your Excellency, are you dissatisfied with the women who are entertaining and serving you tonight?"
Dong Shan asked with a fawning smile, "I saw the adults kick them all out..."
"Well......"
Ji Bochang pondered for a moment and said, "You came to me about this?"
Seeing that Ji Bochang wasn't in the mood for idle chatter, Dong Shan changed his fawning expression and put on a mournful, indignant face, saying, "I shouldn't have disturbed Your Excellency's enjoyment... but a terrible thing has happened! The villagers of Chenjia Village have rebelled and arrested and castrated all the men I sent to collect wolf pelts! Your Excellency, this wolf pelt collection was a government-run business approved by Madam, with contracts and official seals... These unruly villagers of Chenjia Village resisted the county's purchase, gathered a crowd to cause trouble, injured and killed people—this is clearly an attempt to rebel! I... I beg Your Excellency to do me justice!"
"Oh dear! I thought it was a big deal!"
Ji Bo waved his hand: "Why are you bothering me with such trivial matters? Let's talk about it tomorrow!"
"Your Excellency, Prefect...!"
Dong Shan looked horrified: "These unruly people rebelling is no small matter! They've gathered a crowd to cause trouble and injured people without permission. They're showing no respect for the Prefect, let alone the Madam..."
In Ji Bochang's eyes, Dongshan is no different from the pastries offered to the dead at a grave.
If Jiang Ming hadn't insisted on 'playing tricks' on him, Ji Bochang wouldn't have bothered talking to this 'sacrifice' at all!
"Uh...who is this?"
Jiang Ming pretended not to know Dong Shan and asked Ji Bochang.
"The owner of this shop... is surnamed Dong, and his name is Dong Shan."
Ji Bochang asked with a smile, "What are your thoughts, sir?"
"Oh, Mr. Dong..."
Jiang Ming said meaningfully, "The Prefect, Lord Zhao, and I are studying poetry. After all, the Yan Kingdom's poetry competition is next month, and the King attaches great importance to it... I wonder if Boss Dong would be interested in participating? If you can win the Prefect's favor with your poems and lyrics... then everything else will be just a matter of a word, won't it?"
Jiang Ming even deliberately winked at Dong Shan.
Dong Shan understood and immediately bowed gratefully to Jiang Ming.
"Hey, you know what..."
Ji Bochang said meaningfully, "This young Dong does have some talent for writing poetry..."
"Is that so?" Jiang Ming laughed. "Then I'll have to learn from you!"
Seeing that this touched upon his area of expertise, Dong Shan's face lit up with delight, and he said with a smile, "I just wrote a few poems this afternoon, but my writing is clumsy, and I dare not embarrass myself before Lord Zhao..."
Zhao Yong was a famous scholar in the State of Jin, one of the Four Gentlemen of Daqian, and everyone in the world knew him.
Even a nobody like Dong Shan, if he wanted to show off, had to act humble and keep a low profile, not daring to be too flamboyant...
"It's alright!"
Zhao Yong waved his hand: "Write it down and let me see!"
"Huh...?"
Jiang Ming interrupted, "Lord Zhao, that's not right. We're playing a game, competing to see who wins and who loses. We're giving you the questions on the spot; writing out ready-made answers doesn't count!"
"Yes, yes, yes!"
Ji Bochang immediately became interested and laughed, "Giving out questions on the spot, that's what makes it interesting!"
Jiang Ming said, "The Prefect, myself, and Boss Dong will play a poetry contest. Lord Zhao will be the judge. Whoever can't finish the poem will be punished!"
"How should we punish them?" Ji Bo often asked.
"Uh... just fining people isn't fun, let's do something more exciting!"
Jiang Ming laughed and said, "Whoever loses has to go to that mountain where the 'mountain god' is causing trouble and stay there for one night, how about that?"
"Great!" Ji Bochang laughed heartily, "This is interesting!"
"this.......?"
Dong Shan's eyes darted around, looking slightly troubled.
"Eh...!"
Jiang Ming laughed and said, "I heard that the tiger is dead, and there aren't even any wolves left on the mountain. What are you afraid of, Boss Dong? Or are you worried that you won't be able to keep up?"
"No, no, no, that's not what I meant..."
Dong Shan swallowed awkwardly and said, "Then let's answer it..."
"Your Excellency, may I begin?"
Jiang Ming glanced at Ji Bochang for instructions.
"OK!"
Ji Bochang smiled and said, "Master, please! Please give me a question!"
Jiang Ming pondered for a moment and said, "I fear not being shattered to pieces! Boss Dong, please continue with the second line..."
"Hiss~!"
Dong Shan gasped, his brows furrowing deeply, muttering to himself repeatedly, "I fear not being shattered to pieces... I fear not being shattered to pieces..."
"What? Can't you keep up?" Jiang Ming asked with a smile.
Dong Shan swallowed awkwardly and said with a wry smile, "I need to think carefully about your opening... I'm the kind of person who's slow to warm up."
