Chapter 89 The Swift Black Shadow
The three of them explored the cave for five minutes before they finally understood its overall layout.
This is a circular stone cave with a diameter of nearly 20 meters, surrounded entirely by rocks.
A torch was placed every five or six meters on the ground, making the entire cave brightly lit.
Qin Jiu muttered with some doubt, "I thought there would be supply boxes in the cave, but it's just an empty stone cave."
Meng Qingyin was holding a torch and examining the cave wall when she heard this and said, "This is a mine. You might as well hope that you can dig up some mineral deposits."
“That makes sense,” Qin Jiu nodded in agreement. “Then I’ll look for it too.”
As she spoke, she held up the torch and approached the stone wall to examine it closely.
Chen Leying's excited voice rang out from the other side: "There's salt in the rock!"
"A salt mine? Let me see!" Qin Jiu was overjoyed and immediately ran towards Chen Leying.
Just then, Meng Qingyin also made a discovery: "Not only are there salt mines, but also rough stones!"
Qin Jiu paused, turning back to look at Meng Qingyin: "Rough stone? What's that?"
"I don't know." Meng Qingyin shook her head, her stone pickaxe already clanging against the stone wall.
Qin Jiu thought for a moment and then went to Chen Leying's place to look at the salt mine.
The white salt deposits stood out clearly in the dimly lit cave.
Chen Leying held a stone pickaxe and struck it about a dozen times, and the irregularly shaped white salt minerals fell off the rock wall.
Qin Jiu caught it quickly, and information about the salt mine popped up.
Salt mines: After processing, they yield edible salt, which contains various minerals; long-term consumption may prolong life.
Qin Jiu: "So this is a salt mine. I didn't realize it needed to be processed to get edible salt. But how is it processed?"
Chen Leying put the salt ore into her system backpack. "Processing the salt ore is for later. Let's hurry up and look for more and dig some more to take with us."
Qin Jiu, not forgetting Meng Qingyin's mention of rough stones, turned around and shouted, "Brother Meng, have you dug up any rough stones over there? What's their use?"
Chen Leying was also curious about the rough stone and looked towards Meng Qingyin.
Meng Qingyin used a stone pickaxe to knock the rough stone off for a long time before she finally managed to knock it off.
The rough stone had an extremely rough surface, full of pits and bumps, and rolled onto the ground with a gurgling sound.
Meng Qingyin stared intently at the information.
Rough stone: Stone formed in mines, which can be processed into a non-slip material.
Meng Qingyin was overjoyed; she could actually get anti-slip material?
She's having trouble finding anti-slip materials for her anti-slip tires.
It's like someone handing you a pillow just when you're about to doze off.
She shouted at Chen Leying and Qin Jiu, "It's a type of stone that can be used to make anti-slip materials."
Qin Jiu: "Making anti-slip materials? What's the use of anti-slip materials? Never mind, I'll just look for salt mines here instead."
A moment later, she found another clear white patch and immediately started hammering it with a stone pickaxe.
Chen Leying glanced at Meng Qingyin, who was still searching over there, and walked towards her without hesitation.
Qin Jiu had just knocked down the salt mine when she discovered that Chen Leying had already gone there.
She murmured, somewhat puzzled, "Why are they going over there to mine rough stones instead of digging for salt?"
She shook her head and continued searching for salt mines, holding up her torch.
As Chen Leying walked over, she noticed a rough stone in the rock wall.
The surface of the rough stone is too rough, so although it is not as conspicuous as a salt mine, it is still relatively easy to find.
Chen Leying didn't say much and immediately started knocking.
Hearing a crisp knocking sound from the side, Meng Qingyin turned around and saw Chen Leying.
"Why aren't you mining salt over there? What are you doing here?"
Chen Leying continued her work, calmly asking in return, "Then why don't you go and mine salt, instead of staying here mining rough stones?"
Meng Qingyin stared intently at Chen Leying, surprised by her sharp insight.
She looked away and searched for the rough stone again. "Your curiosity is a bit too much."
Chen Leying chuckled, "It's okay if you don't tell me. I'll just dig up more rough stones, and I'll definitely find out later."
Then he stopped talking.
The only sound was the two people tapping on the stone wall.
The little one was bored and sniffed around.
Suddenly, its eyes widened and it jumped straight into Meng Qingyin's arms, its eyes fixed on the stone that Meng Qingyin was tapping.
Meng Qingyin asked in surprise, "What's wrong, little one?"
Why did he suddenly jump into her arms?
The little one kept staring at that spot: "There's food behind the rock."
Meng Qingyin paused. Was there food?
How could there be food in a mine?
She quickened her pace with the stone pickaxe in her hand, wanting to see what kind of food it was.
Soon, all the stones around the rough stone were knocked away, and the rough stone fell off.
Just as the rough stone broke off, a clear hissing sound came from the small pit.
At the same time, a dark shadow rushed towards Meng Qingyin's face at an extremely fast speed.
The shadowy figure was so fast that Meng Qingyin didn't even have time to react.
But the little one was quick; it opened its mouth and swallowed the dark shape.
He chewed it a few times with a "crunch, crunch" sound and then swallowed it.
"It's crunchy, really good." The little one said with a look of relish.
Meng Qingyin: "..."
So the food that the little one was talking about was that dark shadow?
What was that dark shadow?
Is it a monster from the mine?
Meng Qingyin immediately told Chen Leying and Qin Jiu to stop mining and informed them of the situation.
Qin Jiu asked curiously, "A very fast black shadow? What kind of monster is it?"
Chen Leying's focus was on the baby, "So, your pet not only can talk, but also swallowed the monster whole?"
What exactly is Meng Qingyin's pet?
Meng Qingyin: "I wasn't on guard just now, and the monster was too fast, so I didn't see what it was. But you two need to be careful later on, and don't get hurt by the monster."
Nobody knows whether the monster is poisonous or not. If it is, being bitten by it would be terrible.
Qin Jiu took out a small sip of Erguotou (a type of Chinese liquor), nodded solemnly, and said, "Okay, I understand."
Meng Qingyin looked puzzled: "Is now the time to drink?"
Qin Jiu said with a knowing look, "Don't worry about it, I know what I'm doing."
The next moment, he grimaced, "Ouch, the wound seems to have reopened... Boss, did you bring any liniment for sprains and bruises?"
Meng Qingyin replied with six words: "I don't care, you know what you're doing."
"Hey boss, stop joking with me, my wound really hurts. How about I give you the salt I just dug up, and give me a cotton swab of ointment?"
Meng Qingyin readily agreed: "Deal."
Qin Jiu, holding a cotton swab, limped to a corner, and then the torches there went out, leaving everything pitch black.
Suddenly, Qin Jiu exclaimed, "Holy crap, what the hell?!"
"Bang!"
Hearing the commotion, Meng Qingyin and Chen Leying rushed to the corner.
