Chapter 18 Chapter 18 Golden Cage
Unlike his usual calmness, there seemed to be something else behind it. Yan Jiu couldn't tell whether it was worry or disdain.
She stood there for a moment without blinking.
Time seemed to have stopped. Yan Jiu only knew that her eyes must be swollen beyond recognition. She simply closed her eyes until someone put their arms around her waist. Her whole body was suspended in the air and then carefully placed on the bed.
Her body sank into the soft bed, and there was no movement around her. She quietly opened her eyes and found that her feet were bleeding.
Spots of blood oozed out from beneath the white toes, like plum blossoms growing on the snow and falling to the ground.
Yan Jiu realized it belatedly and murmured "It hurts". He stood up and wanted to turn over to take a look.
"Don't move." It was still the same two words, but this time the cold wind was not so biting. In his hand was a long iron plate with an alcohol cotton ball and tweezers on it.
The man lowered his eyes and looked at Yan Jiu who was sitting on the bed. She curled up her weak body and looked like a pitiful puppy. She seemed not to know what had happened. Her beautiful eyes looked at him with a bit of confusion, and her jade-like face was covered with mottled tear marks.
There were bloodstains on the porcelain-like feet. Chen Yuchu frowned, sighed lightly, and pinched the tweezers with his slender finger bones.
But after a moment, a crisp woody aroma came, and Yan Jiu felt her delicate feet being pinched by broad hands. The fingertips were slightly cool, but the skin they touched felt like it was quenched with fire. Her breathing stagnated for a while, and she dared not move.
Yan Jiu found it difficult to accept the thick silence and couldn't help asking, "Why are you back?"
As soon as she finished speaking, she immediately regretted it.
Chen Yuchu was still angry with her, and the best case scenario was to ignore what she said.
Chen Yuchu heard this and his hands kept moving. Yan Jiu didn't expect him to be so adept at such delicate tasks. After he had removed all the glass fragments from her feet, he slowly spoke in a calm tone, "I don't have the habit of staying out all night."
It's the same as saying nothing.
Yan Jiu only dared to complain in her heart, but she did not hide her thoughts, and everything was revealed on her flawless face.
His black suit was stained with rain, and it was obvious that he had just returned and entered the master bedroom. Yan Jiu's eyes flickered slightly, and he pursed his lips slightly, not knowing how to face him.
Chen Yuchu took in all of Yan Jiu's expressions. He twisted the cotton swab with his slender knuckles and wiped the surface of her skin. The cold touch penetrated into her skin. Yan Jiu subconsciously took a breath and pinched the quilt tightly with her fingers to prevent herself from shouting.
It was so painful that she suspected Chen Yuchu was taking revenge on her.
But Yan Jiu knew clearly that Chen Yuchu would not do that.
She didn't know where she got the confidence to confirm this. She clearly didn't know Chen Yuchu at all.
It's still raining outside, and I don't know how long it will last.
Yan Jiu suddenly felt a little confused.
It was raining so hard, but Chen Yuchu came back.
Yan Jiu's mind was as confused as sesame seeds scattered all over the ground, black sesame seeds and white sesame seeds, he couldn't tell them apart even if he wanted to pick them up.
What's more, she couldn't figure out what Chen Yuchu was thinking. She took a deep breath and decided to go back to the starting point since she couldn't figure it out.
Yan Jiu raised her beautiful, thick eyelashes, staring at Chen Yuchu's serious face, and said softly, "Qin Rong, he's my ex-boyfriend."
Chen Yuchu looked normal. He picked up the white ointment and applied it, then tied it around her neck a few times and tied a beautiful knot, then responded indifferently.
Then he put the tray away, got up and went to the bathroom. There was a sound of water in the bathroom. After a while, Chen Yuchu came out. He had taken off his suit jacket, and his fingertips were still a little wet.
He said in a calm tone: "I know."
"Since you know, why are you angry?" Yan Jiu asked bluntly, staring at Chen Yuchu with her almond-shaped eyes. She paused, then decided to go all out. "Or do you mean you don't allow me to socialize at all? If that's the case, lock me up at home. Didn't you say before that you wanted me to sign a marriage agreement? Why not just include this clause in it?"
The corners of her lips curved up, but the smile didn't reach her eyes.
When Chen Yuchu's deep eyes touched her, her brows furrowed. Her voice was soft and smooth, and even her eyes were curved, but the meaning of her words was sharp.
It's obvious that she is blaming him for being stingy.
He didn't answer her immediately. Instead, he slowly unbuttoned his cuffs, setting them aside with a crisp sound. He rolled up his sleeves, his gaze pausing as he noticed his watch had fallen on Jinlou. He casually rolled them up his arm, curling his lips in an ambiguous way. "Okay, then I'll build you a golden cage."
Chen Yuchu's eyes flickered to Yan Jiu's bandaged feet, and his voice became heavier. "At least he won't get hurt."
Yan Jiu turned away uncomfortably, looking at the messy floor. His breath got stuck in his throat and he coughed. He didn't speak for a long time.
I don't know when, my stomach pain stopped.
The rain outside the window was no longer as heavy, and the mottled raindrops on the glass window showed the traces of the storm.
"I'm going to sleep." Yan Jiu said this and buried his head in the quilt. After a while, a muffled voice came from under the quilt, "Be careful not to step on the broken glass on the ground."
After hearing Yan Jiu's words, Chen Yuchu's snow-like and mountain-like brows finally melted a little.
The faint sound of water came from the bathroom again. Yan Jiu poked his head out from under the quilt, took a deep breath, and closed his eyes.
Not long after, Yan Jiu felt the bed beside her collapse in half, and a very fresh vapor came to her nose, and her ears suddenly felt hot.
The little sleepiness I had felt was mostly dispelled.
My brain seemed to be fully charged and running wildly.
She and Chen Yuchu could be considered to have emerged from the brief cold war that lasted less than twenty-four hours and achieved temporary peaceful coexistence.
It was a very adult way of handling the situation. He didn't make a big scene or let everyone know about it, nor did he use overly extreme language to embarrass the other person.
It is indeed Chen Yuchu's style.
But Yan Jiu really didn't expect Chen Yuchu to be angry.
Is he angry or not?
He seemed angry, otherwise he wouldn't have sent her home without even entering the door or saying hello to her grandmother. But the strange thing was, if he was angry, why did he come back?
Until she took the initiative to mention Qin Rong, Chen Yuchu had no intention of continuing the conversation.
Yan Jiu's brows furrowed slightly, and he moved subconsciously. He felt a little pain in his toes, but he endured it without making a sound, and his thick eyelashes trembled again and again.
Suddenly, someone grabbed her hand and a deep voice said, "Do you want to call a doctor to relieve your pain?"
The sudden close distance made Yan Jiu stunned for a few seconds. He swallowed and said, "No, I don't want to make grandma worry."
If a doctor or a servant were to come in the middle of the night, they would surely wake Grandma. She was already sleep-deprived and easily woken up. If she became too worried to sleep because of her, it would truly be her fault.
Besides, it's just a minor injury.
Chen Yuchu: "You'll know sooner or later."
Chen Yuchu was right. At the latest tomorrow, grandma would be worried as soon as she saw her.
"It's too late now, and I'm much better now. It doesn't hurt anymore." Yan Jiu endured the pricking pain from his toes and lied unfluently.
But the trembling from her fingertips had already told Chen Yuchu her physical condition. He couldn't help but hold it tighter, and a gloom fell on his slightly drooping eyelashes. Yan Jiu was hurt in front of him, and she cried when he was not around.
It’s not hard to guess why I’m crying.
It was his ambiguous words that plunged Yan Jiu into suspicion and confusion. This was very similar to the tactics he used in the business world, but perhaps no one would believe that he didn't do it on purpose.
Chen Yuchu's eyes were as deep as the ocean. For the first time in his life, he couldn't control his emotions like a young boy for a woman.
Fortunately, the woman was his wife.
But he had left her hurt.
Yan Jiu didn't know what Chen Yuchu was thinking. His broad and strong hands were still wrapped around hers. Her palms were sweating uncontrollably. After hesitating for a while, she couldn't help but whispered, "How about you let go of my hand first?"
Chen Yuchu stared at Yan Jiu's curled-up figure lying on her side. Her frail back was exposed in pain, and her smooth butterfly bones were reflected in her pink satin pajamas. He spoke with a touch of tenderness, "It's more comfortable to lie flat. Don't press on your injured area."
What Chen Yuchu said made sense, so when he helped her twist her body, she did not resist, but her body was as stiff as a stone, tense all over.
Especially when his fingertips touched her exposed skin, she felt her body was extremely sensitive due to the pain, and her heart trembled with every inch he moved.
There was a lingering heat on her face. She glanced sideways at Chen Yuchu. Perhaps because he had just taken a shower, the man in black silk pajamas looked more charming and profound than usual. The warm light shone on his face, and his flawless outline revealed a bit of gentleness. He only took a glance at Yan Jiu and then looked away, closing his eyes guiltily.
"Go to sleep." A man's deep, magnetic voice came from next to my ear. He quickly turned off the lights in the room, leaving only the wall lamp where he was.
For a moment, the only sound was the gentle sound of turning pages.
Yan Jiu's mind was in a mess, but he didn't know when he fell asleep, his chest rising and falling steadily.
Chen Yuchu stared deeply at Yan Jiu's porcelain-white and translucent face. She was very quiet in her sleep, wrapped in a gorgeous and soft quilt, just like she was living in a golden cage he had built.
His thin lips curled up slightly, and when they landed on her toes, his smile completely disappeared. Under the quilt, the ugly shape of her toes was the bandage he had bandaged.
After a brief pause, Chen Yuchu turned off the wall lamp on his side.
The room fell into complete darkness.
Yan Jiu had a very long dream.
She dreamed she and Chen Yuchu had a fight. In the dream, they weren't as rational as they were in reality. She called Chen Yuchu a jerk, but he wasn't angry and let her continue.
Suddenly he clamped her hands behind her back and pressed her against the wall. He was so close that she couldn't tell if it was his breath or hers. He asked her, "I can be even more of a jerk. Do you want to feel it?"
Yan Jiu saw the bulging veins in his neck, and her blood rushed to her body at an abnormal rate. For some reason, she asked, "What?"
Then, a cool temperature fell on her neck.
......
She woke up.
My first reaction was to look to my side, but Chen Yuchu had already left.
Yan Jiu let out a breath, not knowing what to feel for a moment.
The broken glass on the floor has been cleaned up.
She slept so soundly.
