Chapter 10: Flattery
He Ji took the cup and pinched Su Yan's chin, forcing her to open her mouth.
After careful inspection, it was discovered that a small piece of skin in the child's mouth was scratched.
He pursed his lips, thinking that he had been very careful just now, so how could he have cut her mouth?
He had been looking for a long time, but still didn't let go. Su Yan felt sore from having her neck lifted up, so she patted He Ji's hand.
After being released, she rubbed her neck and secretly looked up at him.
Although she didn't know why her mouth hurt, her intuition told her that it must be related to the person in front of her.
He Ji didn't say anything. He withdrew his hand and silently took the bowl away.
When it was brought back, the porridge was only slightly warm.
He sat on the edge of the bed, picked up the spoon and was about to feed her, but Su Yan avoided him.
"I'll do it myself." She is already such a grown-up and has healthy hands and feet, so she feels embarrassed to let others feed her.
She wanted to eat by herself, but He Ji didn't insist and handed the bowl to her.
"Don't clean my side anymore. I can do it myself. Just take care of yourself."
He Ji knew that she was frail, but he didn't expect her to be so frail. She made herself sick just by cleaning a few rooms.
If he had known that she would be sick, he would not have said that.
Su Yan ate her porridge and looked at him again and again. In the end, she really didn't feel comfortable letting him take the blame.
"Actually, it has nothing to do with this. It's because I got drenched in water last time and didn't dry my hair quickly."
"After taking a shower at noon today, I didn't even dry my hair before going to bed."
Although she spoke very quietly, He Ji, who was paying attention to her, heard it clearly.
When he heard her say that she went to bed without even drying her hair, his face instantly turned as black as ash at the bottom of a pot.
"The air conditioner is on in the room. Do you know how cold your undried hair will feel when it's blown by the air conditioner?"
Doing this kind of thing once is enough, but I didn't expect her to do it twice in a row.
He was angry, so his voice became louder unconsciously. Coupled with his dark face, Su Yan was frightened instantly.
She could hardly hold the bowl in her hand. She looked down at her hand holding the spoon, speechless.
She hadn't been sick for several years, so she didn't pay much attention to this problem. She didn't know that not drying her hair twice would make her sick.
Although she knew it was her fault, she still felt wronged by him being so mean to her.
After He Ji finished speaking loudly, he realized that he had scared the person. He gritted his teeth and wanted to beat himself up.
The child doesn't understand, so just teach him well. Why be so fierce? Does being fierce mean that this thing has never happened?
Taking a deep breath, he moved the stool closer and took a tissue to wipe away the tears from Su Yan's eyes.
"Stop crying, or I'll kiss you."
He didn't know how to coax her now, so he used the most effective method.
Sure enough, after hearing these words, Su Yan took a deep breath and suppressed her tears.
Seeing how obedient she was, He Ji felt a little uncomfortable again. Why was she so obedient at this moment? Would she die if she let him kiss her?
He bit the meat in his mouth, took the bowl from her hand, scooped some porridge and fed her.
"I was a little anxious just now. Don't take it to heart. I meant it for your own good."
With porridge in her mouth, Su Yan nodded.
She knew it, but still felt uncomfortable.
After all, she is not that broad-minded and can act as if nothing happened after being scolded by others.
Knowing that she still had some feelings, He Ji didn't say anything else. He fed her the porridge and went out.
He never came back after he left. Half an hour later, Su Yan, who had regained some strength, stood up.
The living room and kitchen were empty; the people who were supposed to be there had gone home.
She lowered her eyes, and the spirit that had finally recovered wilted again.
Sitting on the sofa with a soft pillow in her arms, she kept an eye on the movement at the door. Every slight sound would make her look up with joy.
After several attempts, she still didn't see the person she hoped for. Her fever had just subsided and she couldn't sit for that long, so she slowly moved back to her room.
Standing by the window, looking at the remaining sharp pieces of glass on the window, her face was tense.
How can I rest if the window is broken?
This is a residential area, surrounded by migrant workers from other places. Although she doesn't want to think of people as badly, it is a fact that people always lose things here.
Although this small building is very dilapidated, in the eyes of outsiders, she, the landlady, is quite rich.
She wasn't afraid before when the windows and doors were closed, but now the windows are gone. What if someone with bad intentions climbs in through the window?
Even if there were no bad guys, there were so many rats here, and if two of them sneaked in, it would be enough to keep her busy.
And most importantly, what if it climbs onto the bed while I'm sleeping?
The more she thought about it, the more scared she became. She rubbed the goose bumps on her arms and went to the living room holding a pillow.
She didn't know if she could sleep tonight, but she would stay here. If there was any movement at the window, she would open the door and run out.
There were people across the street and downstairs, and she thought if she shouted loudly, someone would come out.
She thought too much and scared herself a lot. When she heard the voice, her eyes widened and her body slowly shrank under the sofa.
When He Ji entered the room, he realized something was wrong. He changed his shoes and took two steps inside, then he noticed movement under the sofa.
He walked over and bent down, and saw the child curled up inside with a wary look in his eyes.
He licked his teeth and suddenly felt like laughing.
"What are you doing down there?"
Seeing that it was him, Su Yan fell silent. She felt quite embarrassed in the way she was now.
In order to avoid further embarrassment, she decided to hide and not go out.
She didn't answer or move. He Ji knelt down, bent over, and stretched out his hand to her, "Come out quickly, I bought you a gift."
Speaking of gifts, Su Yan's ears moved. She looked at the calloused hand, hesitated for two minutes, and then slowly moved it out.
Since she didn't need help, He Ji withdrew his hand, sat down beside her, and watched her slowly move out.
Su Yan came out and sat cross-legged on the ground, but she only sat there for a second before He Ji carried her onto the sofa.
"The ground is cold, you can't sit now."
Su Yan didn't notice what he said. All her attention was attracted by the doll on the sofa.
In the huge packaging bag, a pink stuffed animal was squashed so tightly that it looked like a bear.
It's already bigger than her even before it's opened, and I don't know how much bigger it will be once it's opened.
"My tone just now was too harsh. This is just to please you. Forget about what happened just now, okay?"
Su Yan still didn't take his words in. She turned her head, her eyes sparkling, and her tone was very excited, "Are you really giving this to me?"
He Ji didn't expect that he would lose to a rag doll. He leaned sideways on the sofa, supporting his head with his hands, and laughed out of anger.
