Chapter 17: Don’t be embarrassed
Su Yan stopped eating noodles and looked at him with a blank expression. "I was so quiet, and you could hear me?"
"Yeah, I got that from being scolded behind my back so many times."
Su Yan: “…Oh!”
Su Yan ate half of a small bowl of noodles and couldn't eat any more. She secretly touched her bloated stomach and burped a little.
She was already so full, so He Ji naturally wouldn't force her to eat anymore. He reached out and poured the noodles in her bowl into his own.
He has done this several times. Although Su Yan is still not used to it, she is not as embarrassed as she was at the beginning.
After eating, she couldn't go anywhere. If she looked up, she would see the photos on the wall, so she could only lower her head and play with her fingers.
He Ji didn't move after finishing his meal. He tapped his fingers on the coffee table, attracting Su Yan's attention before speaking: "Where's the headband you bought yesterday? Why aren't you wearing it?"
Su Yan didn't answer. He Ji raised his chin as he walked into the house and said, "Go get one. It will look good on you."
Su Yan twisted her fingers together without moving. Feeling embarrassed by his stare, she mumbled, "It's too small. It's pinching my head."
The headband is too long for her ears, so if she wants it to stay put on and not fall off, she has to clamp it tightly. She wore it for two or three hours yesterday and it still hurts.
He Ji had never worn this before, so he naturally didn't know that it would hurt if worn for a long time. Now that he heard what she said, he directly pulled the person over.
He was so strong that Su Yan had no chance to resist. She was pulled to sit next to him. Just as she was about to struggle, a thick and long leg stretched out and pressed down on her knee, and she was unable to move.
The strong masculine scent was overwhelming, enveloping her completely in an instant, and the warmth from one arm and thigh seemed to be able to burn people.
Before she could open her mouth, a broad chest gradually approached her. She wanted to step back, but a big hand grabbed the back of her head.
"Don't move, let me see."
A deep and hoarse voice sounded above his head, and a faint smell of tobacco came as he spoke. It was not unpleasant, but rather a bit fragrant.
Su Yan's cheeks were slightly flushed. She tilted her head slightly and let the rough hands gently brush away the fine hair behind her ears.
Being close to her, He Ji could smell the faint scent of shampoo from her hair and the scent of her body after bathing.
"What kind of shampoo do kids use? It smells pretty good."
Su Yan didn't answer, and He Ji didn't care either. He carefully pushed her hair aside.
A finger-sized red spot behind the ear is particularly conspicuous against the fair skin.
He Ji pressed his teeth against his cheek and clicked his tongue, thinking that children's skin is so tender that even a headband can make the skin red. How can he exert force in the future?
If she accidentally uses too much force in the future, others will see the red marks on her body and think she has been abused.
"It's red, but it's not serious. It will be gone in a day or two." The small red mark was so conspicuous that He Ji's throat felt itchy. He didn't dare to look at it any longer. After he finished speaking, he let go.
After he left, Su Yan immediately sat up straight, pursed her lips, and stood up straight, just like a student who was listening attentively to the teacher's lecture.
After two minutes of silence, she looked up at He Ji, then quickly lowered her head when he looked at her, and then looked up and down again after a few seconds.
After she repeated it five or six times, He Ji lost his patience and moved his butt towards her. "What are you doing? If you want to see it, why don't you just look openly?"
Su Yan looked up at him blankly for a few seconds, then pointed at his leg with a red face, "You're still pressing me!"
He Ji was not unaware of it, he just wanted to see how long she could endure it.
He moved his legs away and pinched Su Yan's face. "Be bolder next time. Say it directly if you have anything to say. Don't hesitate. I'm not a tiger. I won't eat people."
Although she knew that he would not eat people and that he wanted her to speak more, she had lived alone for so many years and had become accustomed to silence.
Habits are not so easy to change. She wanted to say more, but she really didn't know how to start.
I often don't talk, but I don't get annoyed at all and I am still so patient.
"I have some watermelon over there. Would you like to have some?" He Ji asked when he saw her talking again.
Su Yan: ...
I just ate too much, how can I eat anymore?
She glanced at He Ji's still flat stomach and wondered where all the noodles he ate had gone. So many bowls of noodles, almost enough to fill a large watermelon.
He Ji understood her doubts, but deliberately misunderstood her meaning and whistled at her, "How about it? Do you want to touch it?"
"Huh? What are you touching?"
Su Yan asked subconsciously, and when she saw He Ji's eyes, she understood what he meant, and her face turned red.
"Don't feel embarrassed. It's normal to be curious about things you don't have."
As He Ji was about to lift up Su Yan's clothes to let her touch her, Su Yan was frightened and suddenly jumped up, stumbling over and saying that she was sleepy.
He Ji glanced at the clock hanging on the wall. It was just nine o'clock. He leaned back on the sofa, looking like a big boss, and laughed.
"Kid, it seems a little early to go to bed now!"
Su Yan didn't say anything, her little face flushed, she stood there, at a loss.
Her face was filled with anxiety, not even a hint of sleepiness. He Ji licked his teeth and waved at her, "Do you like playing puzzles? I have a few with 2,000 small pieces. Would you like to play with them?"
The last time I saw a puzzle in her room, it was about the size of an A4 paper. She must have put the puzzle together over and over again, and the picture on it was almost blurred.
A 2000-piece puzzle?
Su Yan's eyes lit up when she heard that. She even forgot why she had avoided him just now. She took two steps towards him and nodded vigorously, "I like it."
No matter how much she likes staying in her room, she will get bored after so many years. Besides reading, her favorite thing to do is puzzle.
I can’t remember when I bought the painting at home. It has been pieced together over and over again over the years and has been worn out to the point that the pattern is no longer clear.
"If you like, go cut me a plate of watermelon and I'll give you the puzzle to play with."
Su Yan exclaimed, then asked in a low voice, "Will it be very expensive?"
"It's not expensive, very cheap, probably just the cost of my water bill for a month."
"Then you don't have to pay the water bill next month." Su Yan quickly took over, fearing that he would regret it if it was too late.
He Ji nodded, "Okay!"
"Let's go, cut some watermelon for me and get the puzzle." He stood up and clapped his hands, motioning Su Yan to go over with him.
Su Yan followed him over. When she saw the jigsaw puzzle he took out while cutting the watermelon, she was stunned. "Wooden?"
Even if she was stupid, she knew that wooden puzzles were not cheap and were several times more expensive than paper puzzles.
His monthly water and electricity expenses are at most thirty yuan, so it's no problem for him to buy a few paper puzzles, but if he wants to have what he has in his hands, he's dreaming.
