Chapter 18: The Child Ran Away

Chapter 18: The Child Ran Away

There are four or five wooden puzzles, each with two thousand small pieces. You definitely can’t buy them without two or three hundred dollars.

He had already spent so much money on the last trip to the amusement park, so she was really embarrassed to accept this.

"This is too expensive. I don't want it."

After she finished speaking, she lowered her head and continued what she was doing. He Ji looked at her from the side with her pursed lips, showing her unique stubbornness.

He tutted, leaned against the door, tossed the puzzle pieces in his hand up and down, and sighed, "Since the kids don't want you, then you can just go to the trash can. You're just a waste of space for me to keep around anyway."

After he said that, he pretended to throw the puzzle into the trash can, but Su Yan quickly stopped him.

"Don't throw it away. I'll buy it from you, okay?"

Such an expensive thing can't be thrown away like this.

He Ji felt that one day he would be pissed off to death by this kid. He had gone to so much trouble to find a puzzle with 2,000 small pieces, was it just for her to spend money to buy it?

He gritted his teeth, threw the puzzle aside, and when Su Yan showed a distressed look, he stepped forward, grabbed her waist, and forced her to look up into his eyes.

"Kid, I didn't put so much thought into this just to make the distinction between you and me so clear."

"If you keep separating yourself from me and make me angry, I'll force myself on you."

"I'm giving you all the patience I've ever had. You'd better be obedient and let me in, or I'll dig it out and crawl in myself."

He placed his hand on his chest, pressing against his beating heart through the thin clothes.

His voice was low and hoarse. It was originally rich and warm, but the words he said now made people feel cold on the back, as if a cold wind was blowing.

Su Yan was frightened by his sudden change, and all the hairs on her body stood up.

She just stood there in a daze, as if she was really scared. She didn't respond for two minutes. He Ji leaned over and his dry and hot lips brushed behind her ear like a feather.

"Kid, speak."

Being brought back to her senses by his voice, feeling the warmth from the big hand on her waist, Su Yan opened and closed her mouth several times, and finally uttered a word with difficulty.

After scaring her for a while, He Ji saw that she had finally learned her lesson. He let go of her hand and was about to pick up the puzzle for her, but she ran away like a frightened rabbit.

I didn't expect that she could run so fast. He Ji stared at the wide-open door for two seconds, then smiled with gritted teeth.

The child's legs are not long, but she runs very fast. If he had known she could run, he should have closed the door when she entered.

Knowing that she needed time to sort herself out, He Ji did not chase her out. Instead, he leaned against the table and ate a half-cut watermelon.

He Ji originally planned to go and coax the child the next day, but an accident suddenly happened at the construction site, and he had no choice but to rush over first.

He originally thought that it would only take half a day to resolve, but unexpectedly it took three days. It was not until noon on the fourth day that he came back covered in dust.

Thinking of the wrinkled face of the child every time he saw his dirty self, He Ji put down his hand that was about to knock on the door and went back to take a shower first.

After taking a shower, he knocked on the door for two minutes but got no response. He took the key and went in. He searched the house thoroughly but didn't see anyone.

Thinking she had gone out to buy groceries, he took out his cell phone and called her, but she didn't answer.

Thinking that Su Yan might not have brought her cell phone with her again, He Ji waited patiently.

He waited until four or five in the afternoon.

Watching time pass by little by little, He Ji felt something was wrong. The child would never spend more than half an hour every time he went out to buy groceries.

It has been four or five hours since he came back, and he still hasn't returned.

Fearing that something had happened to her, he got up and went to look for her.

When he was going downstairs, he met a little old lady at the exit of the corridor. He wanted to pass by, but the old lady stopped him.

"Big guy, you are also a tenant in this building, right? Come on, old lady, let me tell you something."

He Ji was anxious and wanted to leave quickly, but was stopped by the old lady.

The old lady is in her seventies or eighties. In her own words, she is buried up to her neck in the earth and has experienced everything. Now there is nothing in the world that she is afraid of.

So when facing He Ji, who had a dark face and looked particularly fierce, she was not afraid at all.

"Don't be so anxious, big guy. I'll just say a few words to you, old woman. It won't take you more than a few minutes."

"Xiao Su, oh, that's your landlord. She's away on a business trip. Before she comes back, you all have to pay the rent to me."

"We'll still pay the rent at the end of the month, just like before. Don't forget."

The old lady wanted to leave after she finished speaking, but He Ji quickly stopped her.

"What's the matter? You still want to hit an old lady like me? I'm old and can't take any bumps. If you dare to raise a finger at me, I will really fall down."

When the old lady saw his face, which was darker than the ash at the bottom of a pot, she was furious. She couldn't remember how many years it had been since she had been scared. This young boy actually dared to show a bad face to her. She was really rebelling against him.

Facing the old lady's "threat", He Ji took a deep breath to relax his face and not look so ferocious.

"You just said the child went away. Where did she go? When will she be back?"

Seeing that he was just asking questions and had no intention of hitting anyone, the old lady breathed a sigh of relief, patted her chest and took two steps back.

Fortunately, she didn't have to meet that weird old man in advance.

"I don't know about that. She's just a little girl, and I'm an old woman, so I'm embarrassed to ask too much."

"But since she asked me to collect the rent, I'm sure I'll be gone for quite some time."

The old lady didn't finish her words. She came to collect rent not to help, but just to get back the money she had lent.

When the little girl left, she borrowed some money from her and said that she would collect the rent from her home.

Originally, she didn't want to lend so much money, but when she thought about the little girl trying to walk out of the room with great difficulty, she couldn't help but soften her heart.

It's pitiful to think about a girl who lost her parents before she even reached adulthood and lives alone in this world.

She felt sorry for her, and since she had watched her grow up since she was a child and trusted her character, the old woman gritted her teeth and lent her the money.

After hearing this, He Ji clenched his fists, turned around and ran upstairs.

"Young man, don't worry. It's not the end of the month yet and you don't have to pay the rent yet." Before the old lady finished speaking, He Ji ran away.

Looking at the empty corridor, the old lady shook her head and said, "Why don't kids these days just listen to what others are saying?"

"The eldest granddaughter is like this, and this big guy is like this too. Alas, people nowadays are too impatient." After the old lady finished speaking, she sighed, leaned on her crutches, and walked back in small steps.

He Ji went back upstairs, opened the wardrobe in Su Yan's room, and looked at the half-missing clothes, his teeth chattering.
