Chapter 6: Be good at home
He downloaded and installed WeChat again, added He Ji as a friend, and then returned the phone.
"Next time if you have any problems, just call me. If not, just use WeChat video."
Su Yan clenched her phone tightly and did not reply to him.
If you really call him every time, he will get tired of it within three days.
Seeing him get up and go into the kitchen, Su Yan remembered the pile of things that were placed in the refrigerator.
She entered the room, took out the unwarmed rent, and went to the kitchen as slowly as a snail.
Standing at the kitchen door, she hesitated for a long time, and the words had turned around in her mouth several times, but she still couldn't say them.
Finally, He Ji couldn't wait any longer and turned to look at her. "Do you have something to say?"
Su Yan nodded, raised her eyelids to look at him, then quickly lowered her head and slowly stretched out her hand hidden behind her back.
She held a handful of money in her hand and said softly, "This is the money I just used to buy groceries."
He Ji leaned against the sink, looking down at her condescendingly. The red banknotes in his white and tender palms were quite eye-catching.
This kid really refuses to take advantage of others. She even wants to pay for a piece of food herself.
"No need for money. After all, it's just a meal. I'll be very busy later, so you'll have to take care of lunch and dinner by yourself."
Su Yan was stunned for a moment, then looked up and asked bluntly, "Do you still want to come over to eat?"
She thought it was just today. What would it look like if he came every day?
"Not necessarily. I'm quite busy. It would be great if I could come over for dinner one day out of ten days."
He Ji originally wanted to nod, but when he saw how nervous she was, as if she was afraid that he would come here every day, he just made a circle with his tongue.
Since you are not coming to eat, you should take the money.
Su Yan didn't say anything, but her clear eyes expressed everything she wanted to say.
He Ji touched his chin, wondering how to make her willingly take back the money.
This amount of money is really nothing for him who is in charge of most of the construction sites in the city.
But for the little kid in front of me, this should be half a month's living expenses.
She was so nervous that he didn't dare to wave his hand and say no.
"How about this, when you're free, come over and help me clean the room, and this money will be your salary. What do you think?"
Su Yan pursed her lips and looked at him as if he was a fool. This amount of money was more than his monthly rent.
With that kind of money, why doesn't he rent a better place instead of living in this shabby little building?
There is a construction site going on outside. It is noisy and dusty every day.
"Since you don't say anything, then it's decided."
Su Yan opened her mouth, not knowing how to refuse. Finally, she lowered her head, counted out half of the money and handed it over.
She looked stubborn, as if saying that she would not agree if he didn't accept her. He Ji licked his lips and smiled.
"The kid is quite stubborn. Okay, I'll listen to you."
He took back half of the money and raised his chin to the sofa in the living room. "You're tired of standing. Go sit over there."
After saying that, he turned around and continued washing the unfinished dishes.
Since he didn't leave, Su Yan naturally couldn't go back to her room. She sat on the sofa with her back straight, as well-behaved as a primary school student.
She heard the sound of water splashing and the slight clinking of dishes in the kitchen. Her ears moved and she couldn't help but look over there.
In my memory, it was always my mother who was busy in the kitchen. My father said that men should not stay in the kitchen all the time, so he never washed the dishes.
Su Yan has been with very few men, so few that she can only count two now.
The appearance of He Ji broke her stereotype of men.
After washing the dishes, He Ji met a pair of dull eyes. He took out a cigarette and put it in his mouth, then walked towards Su Yan.
He had already walked up to her, but she was still in a daze, not knowing what she was thinking.
He Ji squatted down and touched her face with his hand. The soft touch was just as he imagined.
Su Yan was poked on the face and came back to her senses, only to find that she and He Ji were so close.
The smell of his body rushed towards her forcefully. Every breath she took was filled with his scent. It was not unpleasant, but it made her dizzy.
She leaned back, her face slightly tilted, not daring to look He Ji in the eye.
"I'm going to be busy now, you stay home and behave yourself."
The tone of his instructions was as if he was the male owner of the house. Su Yan glanced at him and saw that he was waiting for her answer, then she hummed softly.
Although she didn't speak, the fact that she responded to me was a good start.
He Ji smiled and rubbed her head, then stood up and walked away with big strides.
After the door was closed, Su Yan, who was sitting on the sofa, dared to look up. She stared at the closed door for a full two minutes before she moved.
The place on the head that was rubbed felt warm and itchy, just like holding a hot pack.
Her face felt hot and she couldn't stand it anymore, so she planned to go to the bathroom to wash her face.
Even deep breaths couldn't calm her rapidly beating heart, so she turned on the faucet with trembling hands.
"Click"
"Beep hiss hiss"
Because I was nervous, I turned on the faucet with greater force. The faucet that I had used for more than ten years finally retired gloriously on this hot afternoon.
Su Yan was caught off guard and splashed with water, instantly becoming a drowned chicken. She was stunned for two seconds, then took a towel to block the faucet.
After finally blocking it, there was no dry place on her body.
The faucet was still overflowing, so she took a basin and put it under it to collect the water, then went to change into clean clothes.
She was too lazy to blow-dry her wet hair, so she just wiped it with a towel and let it dry naturally after it stopped dripping.
The faucet was completely broken, and she had to buy a new one to replace it, otherwise she would have no water to wash her face.
The money in her pocket was also wet. She took it out one by one and spread it on the table, then went back to the room and got a new one.
Before going out, she walked to the window and looked out. The sun outside was particularly strong and so hot that the air seemed to be distorted.
She opened the window a crack, and was suddenly hit by a wave of heat.
After closing the window, she decided to wait until the sun went down before going out.
Sitting on the sofa, looking at the living room where she was alone, she suddenly felt it was too empty.
It seemed that something was wrong with the house after a strong man came in.
When I realized that the stable life that had lasted for four or five years might be changed, I was overwhelmed by a feeling of helplessness.
Su Yan half-buried herself in the sofa, covering her face, not knowing what to do.
When her parents were still alive, she never made any decisions. Even things like buying clothes for herself were decided by her parents.
Renting out the house was the first decision she made, and it took her nearly two years to make this decision.
She originally thought that her life would be so smooth, but who knew that she would encounter something particularly important and serious.
In her panic, she couldn't think of a solution, so she tossed and turned, feeling that she couldn't lie down or sit, and finally she just hid in the corner.
