Chapter 154 Apologizing in Person

"This is your room. My room is right next door."

Lu Chen carefully closed the door and placed the suitcase on the floor.

With a swift movement, he grabbed Ye Zhiyu's waist, holding her firmly in his arms. His tense mind and body finally relaxed at that moment.

All the weight was placed on Ye Zhiyu.

Hearing his breathing, Ye Zhiyu patted the arm across his waist, trying to support his body.

"Thank you for your hard work. You must be very nervous."

Lu Chen whispered, "Yes, I'm nervous. I'm afraid I won't perform well and won't get my family's approval, so they won't let me marry you."

"No, Ah Chen is so outstanding, they will definitely like you."

Lu Chen tightened his arms around her, rubbing his chin against her soft hair.

After holding him quietly for a while, Ye Zhiyu gestured for him to loosen his grip and then spun him around in her arms.

Seeing the weariness in his eyes, and touching his stubble, the two slowly drew closer.

Just as their breaths were about to mingle, there was a knock on the door.

"Zhiyu, are you inside? Don't disturb Xiaolu's rest, Dad has something to tell you."

Ye Jinlin came up to check on things out of concern. He saw that Lu Chen's door was closed and Ye Zhiyu's room was empty. Having been in a relationship before, he didn't hesitate to knock on the door.

Ye Zhiyu and Lu Chen paused, and she suddenly laughed out loud, patting Lu Chen's cheek.

"Get some rest, see you this afternoon."

A sweet kiss landed on the corner of her lips.

Ye Jinlin kept calling out, and Ye Zhiyu turned and went out.

He closed the door behind him as he left, and pushed Ye Jinlin away, saying, "Dad, you're the one who disturbed my sleep."

"What are you saying?"

My uncle and his family are just here for a get-together today. They'll go back after dinner, but they'll come back again tomorrow for New Year's Eve. They've been doing this for years.

After seeing her uncle and his family off, her grandparents wanted to take a nap, so Ye Zhiyu took a bath, changed into comfortable home clothes, and went to sleep as well.

Because the curtains were drawn, the room was very dark when I woke up, making me feel like I had slept for a long time.

I went downstairs still half asleep.

The situation downstairs surprised her, yet it also seemed reasonable.

The aroma of chicken soup wafted through the air.

Lu Chen was playing chess with his grandfather, while his grandmother watched from the side, knitting a sweater.

Although Ye Jinlin's gaze was fixed on the newspaper, his perked-up ears clearly betrayed his true thoughts.

"Xiao Lu, you're really good! Who taught you chess?"

"Fortunately, I learned it from my high school Chinese teacher, and I study it on my own at home later."

"It's better to do it yourself. It's been a long time since anyone has played with me so enjoyably."

Ye Zhiyu: "What, what? Ah Chen beat Grandpa?"

Lu Chen: "No, Grandpa thinks three steps ahead for every step he takes. I haven't reached that level yet."

Grandpa Ye was flattered by the praise, "You're not bad either; anyone else would have won."

"No, no, I still need to practice my skills."

Ye Jinlin: "Sycophant."

Ye Zhiyu massaged Ye Jinlin's shoulders: "Yes, yes, my dad's chess skills are second only to my grandpa's."

"Alright, you guys are all so eloquent, making this old woman look clumsy with words."

"Xiao Lu started cooking the chicken soup at noon, and it should be ready soon. I'll go make some pancakes for you guys."

Lu Chen stood up. "Grandma, I'll go."

Grandma waved her hand: "No need, no need. You stay here with them. I'm not so old that I can't move around yet."

Ye Zhiyu shook her head at him. Her grandmother, Dai Lin, was a painter, but she hadn't painted anything she wanted to paint since 1967.

Her favorite thing to do every day is to cook different kinds of food for them, and she is happy when she sees them eating happily.

Ye Zhiyu led Lu Chen to his grandmother's former studio, which was filled with his grandmother's paintings from her youth. The paintings were stacked on the walls and the floor, covered with cloth.

It was covered in dust, which also buried Grandma's hobbies.

"May I take a look at it?"

"certainly."

Ye Zhiyu lowered the curtain that was blocking the view, and a thick layer of dust fell down with it.

The two coughed repeatedly, choking on the fumes.

A vibrant array of colors comes into view.

There are magnificent mountains and rivers, elegant bamboo and chrysanthemums, beautiful ladies, and several oil paintings.

My grandmother's specialty is traditional Chinese painting. She also studied oil painting, but she wasn't proficient in it.

"Hmm?" Lu Chen noticed several portraits.

Ye Zhiyu looked in that direction and said, "That's a portrait my grandma drew of me when I was little."

Seeing how focused he was on watching, Ye Zhiyu blushed slightly and stood in front of him to block his view.

"Don't look anymore, I was so ugly when I was little."

Lu Chen: "No, she's very cute."

His eyes were full of sincerity, but Ye Zhiyu was unwilling. Although she had transmigrated later, she still felt a strange sense of shame.

"Go away, go away, retreat, retreat, retreat."

Lu Chen smiled and pulled her into his arms. After a moment's thought, he asked the question that had been bothering him: "Ayu, your mother..."

I felt it was impolite as soon as I started, and I slapped myself in annoyance.

Ye Zhiyu grabbed him, saying, "What are you doing? There's nothing you can't ask."

She nestled in his arms and nuzzled against his neck.

“My mother was a military doctor who died in the line of duty, and my father raised me by being both his father and mother.”

"She is a hero."

"Yes, she is a hero, and I have always been proud of her." The original owner's greatest idol was her mother. Although her memories were hazy, there was always a woman in her mind whose face she couldn't see clearly, gently calling her Ayu.

——

After dinner, Ye Zhiyu was about to take Lu Chen out for a walk to digest their food and enjoy the night view when an uninvited guest arrived.

"There are a lot of people outside..."

"You understand me!"

The two were about to leave when Ye Jinlin, who was watching them from behind, came into view.

Suddenly someone called my name, and I looked in the direction of the call.

Frowning, I saw the Fu family of three. Fu Yan was in front, wearing a smirk, while Xu Ronghua and Fu Tingshen stood on either side of him.

Fu Tingshen stood with his legs slightly unnatural, presumably because he had been beaten after returning home.

Seeing that Ye Zhiyu was just frowning at them, Fu Yan almost lost his smile. Ye Zhiyu would never have dared to treat him so rudely before; she always treated him with utmost respect when inviting him in.

He couldn't help but curse his son, Fu Tingshen, in his mind again.

"Zhiyu, it's been half a year, don't you recognize Uncle Fu?"

Ye Zhiyu said calmly, "Of course we know each other, but I don't think we need to keep in touch now."

A toad crawling on your foot, it doesn't bite but it's annoying. Tomorrow is New Year's Eve, and it just has to come and ruin the mood.

"Look at what you're saying. Our two families have had a friendship for so many years. Do you think it'll all be gone just because you had a little conflict with Ting Shen?"

Fu Yan acted as if he was very tolerant of the younger generation's lack of manners.

Ye Jinlin was naturally unhappy with his attitude and came out from behind.

"Battalion Commander Fu, don't downplay your own son's mistakes so easily, or I'll seriously doubt your work ethic."
