The bus was as crowded as ever; there were hardly any seats available, and even standing was a struggle.
After finally arriving at the department store, both of their clothes were somewhat wrinkled.
They helped each other to even things out.
The entire street was lined with shops. After the restrictions were lifted, those with the courage and savings became the most daring businessmen.
"Zhiyu, look, isn't this dress nice?"
It was a blue and white checkered skirt, similar to Ye Zhiyu's red and white one.
Tang Wenjing clearly knew this too. "I'll buy it, and then you can wear yours, okay?"
Hmph, I'll just hang around in front of Lu Chen then and piss him off.
How could such a little scheme escape Ye Zhiyu's notice? But it was harmless.
"Okay, this one is nice too, you can try it on as well."
Tang Wenjing happily carried the clothes to the small cubicle in the back to try them on, while Ye Zhiyu slowly looked at each piece.
"Li Xi, aren't you annoying? Can't you do it yourself? I'm very busy."
A familiar voice, a familiar name—Ye Zhiyu looked toward the source.
Sure enough, it was Li Xi and Fu Tingshen. The two were pulling and tugging at each other on the street, and Ye Zhiyu could just see them from her angle.
Li Xi's arm was flung away by Fu Tingshen, and the inertia caused it to go numb.
In the Red Flag Brigade, she used the sleeping pills left by the system to control Fu Tingshen and torment him every day.
Fu Tingshen didn't ask for help, firstly because he was ashamed, and secondly because everyone believed that it was the sound of them doing something. The whole village knew about his affair with Lu Li, and poor Li Xi would only believe her side of the story.
He couldn't run away either. Without a transfer order to return to the city or a letter of introduction, he would be an unregistered resident no matter where he went. So he endured it, partly out of genuine fear.
But once they returned to the Fu family in Beijing, it was Fu Tingshen's territory. No matter how disappointed Fu Yan and Xu Ronghua were with their son, he was still their son. How could they tolerate their son being bullied by Li Xi?
The two understood this principle very well, so Fu Tingshen changed his previous obedience and threw Li Xi's things out of the bedroom as soon as he got home, refusing to live in the same room with Li Xi.
Li Xi had no choice but to endure it, because she had nowhere else to go.
If it weren't for the fact that he couldn't bring himself to say the word "divorce," and that there were so many unexpected problems on the way to the divorce with Li Xi, they would have been on completely different household registrations long ago.
With her in-laws disliking and loathing her, and her husband wishing he could kill her, does Li Xi regret this situation?
She regretted it, but...
She regrets that when she was able to contact the system, she didn't try to get more information that would benefit her, otherwise she wouldn't be in such a passive position now.
Unfortunately, the system had been gone for a long time, and she suspected it no longer existed.
She treated Fu Tingshen that way back then because she thought she could help him get into Peking University, and then he wouldn't blame her.
On the other hand, she was really on the verge of collapse. In this second life, she had already snatched Fu Tingshen away, so why was she still inferior to Ye Zhiyu in every way? Her obsession was getting the better of her, and she naturally needed to find a way to calm down.
Who knew that Fu Tingshen would do so poorly on the exam, only able to get into a mediocre university, and that was only because he used connections.
The argument between the two continued.
"Fu Tingshen, tomorrow is my dad's birthday. We're getting married now, so my dad is your dad too. I just asked you to come with me to buy something. Do you have to be so impatient?"
Fu Tingshen's eyes were filled with disdain, as if he had heard a joke. "Your father? Are you sure he still acknowledges you? You pressured them a lot to marry me, didn't you?"
Li Xi pursed her lips, biting down hard on a bit of soft flesh with her two teeth, "No matter what, I am his daughter."
"That's your business, don't bother me."
He turned to leave, but then he ran into Ye Zhiyu, who was watching the show in the shop, and stopped in his tracks.
When Li Xi saw him stop, she followed his gaze.
Ah, it's her.
Li Xi said sarcastically, "What, regretting it now? Too bad, she didn't stay for you."
When Ye Zhiyu realized she had been discovered, she wasn't embarrassed at all; instead, she smiled at them.
"Zhiyu, I've changed, it looks really good..."
Tang Wenjing came out after changing her clothes, constantly looking at her clothes, but she didn't hear Ye Zhiyu's voice.
He looked up. "What are you looking at?"
Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted two bad guys in the minesweeper.
With hands on hips, he said, "Hey, you two shameless bastards, what mischief are you up to now?"
Fu Tingshen's face darkened instantly. Of course he knew Tang Wenjing. She had always disapproved of Ye Zhiyu being with him and was always sarcastic and mean to him.
Li Xi was in a daze. She couldn't remember how long it had been since she last saw Tang Wenjing. She couldn't remember if she had seen her in her past life or this life. She only remembered that the last time she saw Tang Wenjing was when Ye Zhiyu was instigated by Tang Wenjing to break off their friendship.
The two men didn't look too good, and they didn't fawn over her like before, which made Tang Wenjing feel particularly bored.
After paying, He Ye Zhiyu walked past them toward other shops.
"How did these two end up together? Are they really just kindred spirits?"
"They got married."
"Oh, you got married, no wonder... hmm?"
Tang Wenjing suddenly realized, "What? They got married?"
When Tang Wenjing broke off her friendship with Ye Zhiyu, Li Xi hadn't yet started flirting with Fu Tingshen, so you can imagine her shock.
Ye Zhiyu nodded: "Yes, we got married during the Chinese New Year. Li Xi has always liked Fu Tingshen, but I didn't realize it."
"Two bastards." Tang Wenjing rubbed her fists together, turning around to go back and teach them a lesson.
Ye Zhiyu pulled her back and turned her around: "Alright, isn't this perfect? They're hooking up, and I've avoided two scumbags at once. Shouldn't I be happy?"
Tang Wenjing nodded: "That's true."
"Alright, don't let this spoil the mood. There's still so much to see. Oh, and I'm going to Lu Chen's older brother's place tomorrow, so I need to buy some things..."
They continued shopping, while Li Xi...
Fu Tingshen left, leaving her alone to buy some fruit.
Li's father never takes time off for his birthday, believing it would mean losing a day's pay, so he always celebrates it at home after get off work in the evening.
When Li Xi went downstairs, many neighbors who had watched her grow up greeted her.
"Li Xi is back. It must be your dad's birthday today. The whole building smells of your mom cooking."
"Hey, Xiaoxi, I heard from your mom that you got married? That's so sudden. Your family kept it a secret pretty well. If I hadn't asked you last time if you had passed the exam, we wouldn't have known."
"Yes, we're all neighbors, how could we possibly owe you a little bit of wedding candy? And if we don't tell you, where's your son-in-law? Why didn't he come back with you?"
Of all the questions, Li Xi only answered the last one, giving a slight smile, "He's a bit busy; he can't leave school."
"Oh, he's a college student too! That's great. Which school do you go to? My sister insists on going to Nanjing University."
Li Xi couldn't laugh anymore. "Ladies, I'm going upstairs now. Let's talk next time."
"Alright, go ahead and go up. Look at us, we've been talking for ages."
