When they got home, A'niang was sitting by the yard making paper-folding. Qin Shuang and Yansheng were doing their homework on a wooden bench in the main room.
"Are you back?" Seeing Lu Sheng come in, A'niang hurried over to ask.
Lu Sheng nodded slightly, took off the backpack, and turned his gaze to Qin Shuang inside.
"What happened? Why are you so dirty?" Seeing Lu Sheng's face covered in dust, A'niang quickly took the duster and helped him brush off the dirt on his body.
Lu Sheng ignored him, picked up the fresh fruits in the basket and came to Qin Shuang, "I picked these wild fruits on the mountain this morning, I'm giving them to you!"
Qin Shuang looked into his clear eyes, then looked at the fresh apple he was holding, pursed her lips, and accepted it.
He smiled, patted Yansheng's little head, stood up and poured all the green leaves in his arms into a dustpan.
A'niang put down the things in her hands and saw him standing by the kitchen washing something. She walked over and took a look. It turned out to be a large basin of green dates.
"You...did you go do this so early in the morning?"
A'niang looked at him in surprise, and only now did she understand why he came back covered in mud.
Lu Sheng nodded slightly and said as he washed, "Shuangshuang likes sour food, so I picked some green dates, dried them in the sun, and made them into dried jujubes. We can eat them anytime!"
Qin Shuang frowned slightly, looked in his direction, and when she met his gentle gaze, she turned her head back.
Ah Niang said "oh" and finally turned her eyes back to the basin he had washed, and said angrily, "You too, you went out so early in the morning. I thought you were doing something else. Did you have breakfast?"
As she spoke, she took a warm taro from the pot beside her and handed it to him, "I saved this for you!"
Lu Sheng smiled and pushed it away, "I'm not hungry!"
After saying that, he stood there, looking in the direction of Qin Shuang for a pause. After a few seconds, he walked forward holding a washed green date.
"Shuangshuang, I picked this especially for you. Don't you want to eat something sour? Try this!"
Qin Shuang stared at the thing in his hand without saying a word, her long eyelashes trembling slightly.
He smiled and stuffed something into her hand again, "Try it and see if it suits your taste. The green dates are quite sour these past two days and are not yet fully ripe, so they are just right for eating. After you finish eating them, I'll go get you some!"
Qin Shuang frowned, glanced at the thing in her arms, and unconsciously moved her gaze to his strong arm. Suddenly, a striking wound caught her eye.
She frowned slightly and looked up, "What's wrong with your arm?"
He was stunned and quickly hid the wound, "Nothing!"
The wound was caused by a scratch when he was climbing a tree. However, he grew up in the mountains, so such injuries are commonplace for him.
Yansheng tilted his head to the side, glanced at his brother's unnatural face, then looked at his silent sister-in-law and suddenly said, "I know how my brother got hurt. It must have been when he was helping my sister-in-law pick jujubes. The jujube trees where we live are very tall, and it takes a long time to climb up!"
Qin Shuang frowned and returned his gaze to Lu Sheng's face. Lu Sheng blushed and hurriedly shook his hand to explain, "No, no, I was accidentally scratched while doing farm work. Don't listen to Yansheng's nonsense!"
He was very flustered. He didn't know why, but he always felt nervous when facing her.
Qin Shuang frowned, did not answer, sat for a while, then lifted the curtain and walked away.
