Chapter 31 Obediently Delivering Money

"You..." Liu Honghua never expected that the Yan family would have such a cunning mind.

Ding Meixiang took out a small notebook that actually recorded how much work the Zhao family had given to Yan Honglan over the past year.

The records were kept in such detail, including the date, the item of clothing, and the amount of income, that no one would doubt the authenticity of the ledger if they saw it.

Moreover, what she didn't expect was that the Yan family would actually dare to cancel the marriage.

The reason she came was because she was certain that Yan Honglan was a girl after all. If she broke off the engagement, her reputation would be ruined, and she would have a hard time finding someone else.

In the end, they will definitely beg them to marry Yan Honglan, and of course, they won't dare to mention money.

Unexpectedly...

Ding Meixiang asked Yan Junting to bring her an abacus and added up all the accounts in her notebook. The final result was 308 yuan.

Ding Meixiang pointed at Liu Honghua, "It's 308 yuan in total. I'll give you two hours to bring me the money, not a penny less, or I'll take you to the police station."

"What if I don't give it to you?" Liu Honghua gritted her teeth, trying to renege on her debt.

Asking her to come up with more than three hundred yuan is like asking her to die.

Ding Meixiang wasn't in a hurry. She gave a cold snort and raised her eyebrows, saying, "You heard about Yun Xiaoqin's incident, right? She's probably on her way to the police station now. Do you want to go with her?"

The news of Yun Xiaoqin and Yun Duoduo arguing and Yun Xiaoqin being taken to the police station has spread throughout the village. Everyone knows once again that Yun Duoduo is not someone to be trifled with.

Even if Liu Honghua isn't afraid of Ding Meixiang, she can't do anything to Yun Duoduo.

Moreover, since it was Yun Duoduo who brought up the issue of asking for money, she certainly wouldn't ignore it.

Therefore, Liu Honghua knew very well that in the end, she would have to pay the money, otherwise her family would be in a worse situation than Yun Xiaoqin.

So, two hours later, Liu Honghua obediently delivered 308 yuan, not a penny less.

Although her son Zhao Qingshan came with her to try and coax Yan Honglan, Ding Meixiang didn't let them in at all. She took the money and drove them away.

Three hundred yuan is a considerable sum. Ding Meixiang was overjoyed, not knowing what to do with it. She had received such a large sum of money all at once; she couldn't possibly spend it all.

Seeing Ding Meixiang's happy expression, Yan Junting said, "Mother, this money was earned by Honglan. Give it to her and let her keep it herself."

Ding Meixiang was calculating what to buy with the money when she mentioned giving it to Honglan, but Honglan was naturally unhappy. "Wouldn't it be better if I saved it for her?" she said.

"Have you saved any money over the years?" Yan Junting took the opportunity to check her accounts.

“I send back quite a bit of money every month, but when I got married, you didn’t have a single penny. It was only because I sent money back that you were able to buy all these things. Do you have any idea where all that money has gone over the years?”

Ding Meixiang felt quite guilty about this, as she really hadn't calculated it.

She seems like a very capable person, but in reality, she's never been careful with money.

As long as she has a little money, she spends it lavishly.

For example, she would give a little money to each of her children, and then she would also give a little to her maternal family. People from the village would often come to her to borrow money. They wouldn't borrow much, and after a while, they couldn't pay it back, so they would just pretend that the matter never happened.

So, that's how her money disappeared.

Yan Junting knew his mother's personality, so he knew he couldn't let her get her hands on such a large sum of money.

Yan Gusheng, standing to the side, agreed with Yan Junting, "Yes, this money should be given to Honglan. She'll be getting married in a few years, so she needs to have some money on hand."

Since everyone said so, Ding Meixiang felt embarrassed not to give it to Yan Honglan, so she handed the money over.

Yan Honglan took the money, but counted out fifty yuan and handed it to Ding Meixiang. "Mom, this money is for you, for my dad, and for Dongdong to buy a set of winter clothes each."

Since it was obtained by chance, Yan Honglan wasn't stingy.

Ding Meixiang immediately took the money and was happy again.

But thinking about Yan Honglan's annulment of the engagement, Yan Gusheng worried, "Hey, everyone in the village must know about Honglan and Qingshan's annulment now. What will we do then?"

Yan Junting was about to speak up to persuade Yan Gusheng when Ding Meixiang waved her hand at him and said, "What are you afraid of? Honglan is going to do business in the capital with her elder brother and sister-in-law. She'll find a man from the capital and marry him. What are you afraid of if people in the village gossip?"

Upon hearing this, Yun Duoduo's lips moved slightly. It has to be said that Ding Meixiang's mind works very quickly; in such a short time, she has already thought of this.

However, in any case, the Zhao family was not a good match for Honglan, and Yun Duoduo agreed to break off the engagement.

Moreover, getting back more than 300 yuan was an unexpected bonus.

In the afternoon, the family originally planned to go to Yun Duoduo's house, but it was still raining. Just then, Yan Junting's maternal grandmother suddenly had something to do and asked Ding Meixiang to go over. Yun Duoduo told Ding Meixiang to go to her maternal grandmother's house first. As for going to her mother's house, there was no rush. It was in the next village and only a few minutes' walk away.

Just then, Yun Duoduo was still thinking about how she hadn't finished making the scarf today and was planning to sell it in town tomorrow, so she couldn't delay.

I'm only staying home for a few days, so I'll earn whatever money I can and not waste any time.

In the afternoon, Yun Duoduo and Yan Honglan started working, and Yan Junting also helped out.

Yun Duoduo had not formally studied tailoring, but she had learned to operate a sewing machine before and knew some simple stitching techniques.
