Chapter 99 Major Twist

Upon seeing the doctor, Yun Duoduo's heart skipped a beat, fearing that her blood test results would bring bad news.

This doctor wasn't her attending physician, but judging from his appearance, he was probably more senior.

With this doctor being dispatched, Yun Duoduo felt even more uncertain.

Just as she was about to ask, the doctor exclaimed in surprise when he saw Ye Wenyue, "Old Ye, what are you doing here?"

Clearly, Ye Wenyue recognized the doctor who had come. She exclaimed in surprise, "Old Zhou, didn't you take a day off yesterday?"

The doctor, who was called Old Zhou, smiled at Ye Wenyue and said, "More or less. I'm getting old, and I'm semi-retired. Unless there's something special, I rarely come to the ward anymore."

After Dr. Zhou finished speaking, she suddenly pointed to the ward and asked Ye Wenyue, "Old Ye, is the patient in this ward a relative of yours?"

Ye Wenyue smiled and nodded, then called Dr. Zhou into the ward and introduced her to them, "This is my daughter, her name is Duoduo."

Then, she introduced Dr. Zhou to Yun Duoduo, "Duoduo, this is Dr. Zhou. We've known each other for many years. You can just call her Aunt Zhou."

Yun Duoduo nodded to Dr. Zhou and called out as well.

"Your daughter?" After learning that Li Sijie was Ye Wenyue's daughter, Dr. Zhou's expression was very complicated, and he even seemed to find it hard to believe.

I don't know if it's because I think Yun Duoduo and Ye Wenyue don't look alike, or what?

"It's a long story, I'll explain it to you when I have time." Because Ye Wenyue had known this Dr. Zhou for many years and was familiar with each other's family situations, she had always known that Li Sijie was the daughter of the Li family, but she didn't know about Yun Duoduo.

Dr. Zhou nodded, not asking any further questions, but her gaze seemed more complicated than before.

Ye Wenyue didn't notice the complicated look in Dr. Zhou's eyes. She pulled her over to Yun Duoduo and said, "Dr. Zhou, you've come at the right time. It's like this, my daughter is pregnant. She was in a car accident yesterday. She wasn't injured anywhere else, but the doctors in your department said it affected the pregnancy and she needs to be protected. We don't know how things are going. We didn't see any doctors this morning, only a nurse came to draw blood. Could you help me find out when the results will be available?"

At this point, Dr. Zhou glanced at Yun Duoduo, his lips moved as if he wanted to speak.

But in the end, she didn't say anything. Instead, she suddenly pointed outside to Ye Wenyue and said, "Okay, Lao Ye, come out for a moment. I have something to tell you."

As for Yun Duoduo, she didn't explain.

This is a bit strange. The worst-case scenario is that the fetus cannot be saved, so why would you need to tell Ye Wenyue in private?

Ye Wenyue nodded to Dr. Zhou, then greeted Song Qinglian and Yan Junting, asking them to look after Duoduo for now, saying she would be back soon.

After they went outside, Dr. Zhou didn't say anything immediately. He just called Ye Wenyue to a less crowded area at the hospital stairwell, but remained silent for a while, as if there was something he couldn't bring himself to say.

Seeing this, Ye Wenyue immediately asked her anxiously, "What's wrong? Is my daughter's condition bad? Is the baby going to die?"

Dr. Zhou nodded, picked up the report and looked at it again before slowly saying, "Old Ye, it's not that the baby can't be saved, it's that your daughter wasn't pregnant at all."

This was nothing short of a bolt from the blue, leaving Ye Wenyue completely stunned and unable to comprehend what was happening.

Half a day later, Ye Wenyue finally found her voice and anxiously asked, "What do you mean? How could I not be pregnant?"

Before Dr. Zhou could reply, she continued, "It was clearly the doctors at your hospital who said the blood test results showed my daughter was pregnant, and that the fetus might not survive. How come they're saying she's not pregnant now? What's going on?"

Dr. Zhou shook his head, looking very troubled.

After a few seconds, she said, "I'm not sure how to explain this to you. I don't know exactly what happened either, but I can confirm that your daughter is definitely not pregnant. Her discomfort is not due to any miscarriage, but simply because she has her period."

After a pause, Dr. Zhou suddenly added, "Logically speaking, she should have been able to sense it herself."

"This..." Ye Wenyue looked at Dr. Zhou, and she roughly knew what Dr. Zhou meant by what he said.

She meant that Duoduo was faking her pregnancy?

Seeing that Ye Wenyue understood his meaning, Dr. Zhou lowered his voice and said to her, "Old Ye, actually I've roughly looked into this matter. Your daughter only told me she was pregnant after she found out she was going to donate blood to your third son. I'm thinking..."

She paused, waiting for Ye Wenyue's reaction.

Ye Wenyue immediately pressed, "What are you thinking? What do you mean by that, Lao Zhou?"

After pondering for a moment, Dr. Zhou continued, "I'm wondering if your daughter has a fear of donating blood, or if she has some other concerns, which is why she lied about donating blood to your third child."

“Some people don’t understand blood donation. They always think that donating blood will ruin their health. Many people in the countryside think this way. I wonder if your daughter thinks that way too…”

"Impossible..." Ye Wenyue retorted directly. She had confidence in her daughter and knew she wouldn't resort to such tricks.

Moreover, she knew very well that her daughter was not such an uncultured person.

Perhaps seeing Ye Wenyue's somewhat intense reaction, Dr. Zhou suddenly smiled and smoothed things over, saying, "Old Ye, it's really not a big deal. Your third child has already had surgery and is out of danger. Your daughter didn't have any miscarriage issues, so at least there's nothing wrong with her body. That's good news, isn't it?"

Then she pointed to Yun Duoduo's ward and said, "Your daughter doesn't need to be hospitalized; she can be discharged anytime."

Although Dr. Zhou didn't say anything more afterward, her meaning was clear: she believed that Duoduo deliberately claimed to be pregnant to avoid donating blood, and that she watched helplessly as Li Yungang's life was in danger without offering any help.

Ye Wenyue simply couldn't believe her daughter was that kind of person. She immediately looked at Dr. Zhou firmly and said, "Old Zhou, something's not right. My Duoduo wouldn't be that kind of person."

"Have someone else come over. I want to see the blood transfusion and the tests done in person. I need to make sure there are no mistakes in the process before I see the results."

"This..." Dr. Zhou was somewhat embarrassed, as this was against the rules.

Seeing this, Ye Wenyue also became assertive, "Old Zhou, I'll trouble you, or I can have my husband, Old Li, come and see the dean."

Since things had come to this point, Dr. Zhou had no choice but to agree, "Okay, I'll do as you say."

Then, she called over a head nurse from the obstetrics and gynecology department, "Head Nurse Liu, go prepare the syringes, draw blood again, and send it to the lab. Tell them that a pregnancy test is all they need."
