Chapter 26 A Terrifying Night in the Temporary Apartment

After reading the rules, Yin Zhu casually took off her coat and pounced on the bed: "So soft."

On the surface, the rules themselves seem to have no traps, and it seems to be just as the person who wrote the rules said, that they just hope that tenants can live here safely and with peace of mind.

However, the many prohibited areas inside directly suggest that there is a problem here.

For example, an unusable stairwell, eerie reflections in the mirror, knocking sounds that aren't necessarily from a person, intermittently malfunctioning elevator doors, homeless people, a non-existent thirteenth floor...

If that's the case, then the strange world afterward certainly won't make the Chosen Ones feel comfortable either.

Besides that... "Bang! Bang! Bang!"

There was a sudden knock on the door, followed by Green Bean's voice: "Sister Sun, are you inside?"

Yin Zhu sat up, but did not open the door.

"That's strange, isn't Sister Sun inside?" Green Bean outside the door seemed to be talking to herself, but the soundproofing in this building didn't seem to be very good, so the people inside could hear it clearly.

"They just checked in, where could they have gone?"

The sound grew fainter and fainter, as if the person had moved away. Yin Zhu remained motionless throughout, only lying back down after the sound disappeared.

Because Yin Zhu hadn't gone to check, she naturally didn't know that if she tiptoed to the door, she would see a bloodshot eye peeking in from the outside through the cat's eye.

...

"I see you!" the person outside shouted. "Open the door for me!"

The chosen one inside trembled and dared not open the door, even though the door was being pounded on and was shaking. He knew that the person outside was more terrifying than if he hadn't opened the door.

He was the chosen one of the Kingdom of Gold and Silver Keys, and had been approached by a beautiful woman in the car. However, at this moment, one of the woman's eyeballs was hanging out of its socket, while her other eye was staring intently at the person inside the house through the peephole.

My God, this is terrifying!

He was too terrified to open the door, for that one glance had been enough to scare him out of his wits. The beautiful woman outside, after confirming someone was inside, moved her head back, revealing her full form—a monster with half its head decaying.

Fortunately, he didn't open the door directly, but instead glanced through the peephole.

The door shook violently for a while, but the person inside refused to open it. Eventually, the sounds outside faded away, and the eeriness seemed to disappear.

The chosen ones of the Kingdom of Gold and Silver Keys mustered their courage and looked outside the door again, only to find that there was no one there.

Suddenly, the rotting head abruptly moved from the blind spot to under the peephole, its bloodshot eyes staring intently at the person inside: "Didn't you invite me? Let me in!"

"Ah—" The chosen one of the Kingdom of Gold and Silver Keys was so frightened that he squatted on the ground, covering his head and trembling.

At that moment, he suddenly heard the sound of water coming from the toilet.

Under repeated stimulation, the chosen one of the Golden and Silver Key Kingdom was terrified. He walked shakily into the toilet and found that only the water in the tap was turned on.

Amidst the banging on the door from outside, the sound of water seemed less frightening.

He quickly turned off the tap, and in the corner of his eye, he suddenly sensed something was wrong and subconsciously looked up.

In the mirror above the pool, a figure appeared behind him—the half-rotten beauty from outside the door. She gave a sinister smile and stretched out her hands to the chosen one of the Golden and Silver Key Kingdom: "Baby, I'm in. Why aren't you happy to see me?"

"No--"

With his heart-wrenching screams, after being repeatedly and excessively frightened, the fragile little heart of the Chosen One of the Golden and Silver Key Kingdom finally couldn't take it anymore, and he collapsed.

The camera in the live stream lingered on the mirror. The person in the mirror didn't mimic the fallen Chosen One; instead, like the rotting beauty behind her, they both stared at the camera with eerie smiles.

"The Chosen One of the Gold and Silver Key Kingdom, Mayoro, has died. The dungeon 'Grand Theft Auto' has four challenge attempts remaining."

"Aaaaaaah!"

"No! Mayoro! Our hero!"

"My God, how did she get into the house? Wasn't the door supposed to be secure?"

"Don't open the door, don't look in the mirror!"

"This is absolutely terrifying!"

At this moment, the system voice interrupted all the comments from the Gold and Silver Key Kingdoms, because the maliciously seamless character-splitting began:

"The next chosen one is being drawn..."

...

Undoubtedly, this knocking incident is a recurring plot point; almost everyone who successfully reaches the temporary apartment encounters it.

Most of the chosen ones were startled when they looked through the peephole and didn't open the door for the monster outside. Then they encountered the mirror ghost incident, which ended with covering it with a cloth.

A small number of monsters, like Yin Zhu, who didn't open the door, didn't get the subsequent "bo" (combo). When the monster outside realized that the people inside weren't paying any attention to it, it silently lurked outside the door. But the people inside weren't even curious, and its attempt to intimidate failed, so it had no choice but to slink away.

Everyone here has already cleared the previous dungeon. Even if they memorized the walkthrough, they've all received special training in the country after leaving the world of ghost stories. They wouldn't be so naive as to open the door to strangers, would they?

How could anyone be so stupid as to make such a basic mistake?

Oh, there really is.

So far, out of more than a hundred countries, there has only been one chosen one who opened the door and was torn apart on the spot by the monster outside—Thompson of the Beacon of Light.

He didn't even look through the peephole; upon hearing the voice of the blonde, blue-eyed beauty, he went straight to open the door.

Thus, the United States changed its leadership even earlier than the United States with the Golden Key.
