Chapter 260 Infected vs. Infected

As night falls, the neon lights in the inner city gradually become more visible.

The pale moonlight bathed the entire service center in a cool blue hue, while futuristic light strips illuminated one high-rise building after another.

The service center is mainly for lower-class citizens, so it doesn't have the distinctive architectural style of the commercial streets in the outer city. It's just a few square boxes made of steel with colorful signs hanging on the outside.

The buildings are not far apart, and fortunately there are no windows, so there is no awkwardness of being seen by others.

After a busy day, the ordinary citizens finally had some time to themselves, so they left their homes and began to vent their stress outside.

Nightlife is about to begin.

The service center doesn't have many large shops; it mainly consists of small eateries, drink shops, and entertainment venues. Moreover, the shops themselves don't belong to the lower-class citizens; they are simply hired by higher-class citizens to work there.

Yin Zhu was standing in the corridor outside her room on the sixth floor, looking down at the ground through the tempered glass that replaced the walls.

The neon lights outside kept flashing, and people were having a great time. If you ignored their non-human appearances and unusual walking styles, Yin Zhu would feel like she had returned to Earth.

The nights in China's big cities are just as lively.

Back when Yin Zhu was working in Beijing, if the next day was a normal day off and she didn't have to work overtime, she would occasionally meet up with two or three friends for barbecue as night fell, or go for a stroll in the nearby bar street.

In the bar, the contestants who came from singing talent shows on TV, because they are not signed with a company, can only sing in the bar and attract passersby.

However, the drinks at those places were really expensive. Yin Zhu remembered clearly that she and two friends ordered a large glass of corn juice, which cost sixty or seventy yuan.

Moreover, the bartender looked at them speechlessly, as if asking, "Are you sure the three of you are only ordering one drink?"

"Your drinks are so expensive. We were just tired from shopping and saw you had a lot of sofas, so we came in to rest. One drink is fine for the three of us." Yin Zhu smiled but didn't say anything, remaining silent out of politeness.

"Aren't you going down for a walk?"

Hirano Sane walked up to Yin Zhu at some point, interrupting Yin Zhu's recollection.

"No, it's more fun to watch from up there." Yin Zhu pulled Hirano Shan to her side and pointed in a direction: "Look, that person's arms and legs seem to be installed backwards, so he can crawl on all fours with his face up."

"Infected people are like this; anything can happen to them."

Hirano Sane wasn't particularly interested in the native, but instead paid attention to another native: "By the way... you shouldn't be allowed to climb around in the inner city, right?"

Following Hirano San's gaze, Yin Zhu saw an indigenous person climbing up the building.

This person has long, thin limbs, and his proportions are so distorted that he looks like a stick insect. He is climbing another tall building and has already reached the third floor.

Seemingly sensing Yin Zhu and the other person's gaze, he suddenly turned his head, turning it at an almost impossible angle towards the DE08 building. He looked at the two people with a ferocious smile, then used all four legs to quickly crawl to the other side of the building and disappeared from Yin Zhu's sight.

"What a pity, I forgot to take a picture."

Yin Zhu shook her head, her heart unmoved—could anyone be more twisted than Aunt Cai, who split into N parts and melted on the spot?

"Let's call the police." Hirano San lowered her head and began fiddling with her benevolent spirit.

Seeing that she had already done it, Yin Zhu naturally had no interest in calling the police again, and simply continued to look at the building in the distance.

Perhaps out of shyness, the stick insect-sized aboriginal never appeared again, even making Yin Zhu wonder if everything that had just happened was an illusion.

But this city of Vina is so strange, it can't be a hallucination, right?

Yin Zhu didn't know what she said to the police, but she saw several patrol robots and several people in supervisory bureau uniforms heading towards the DE08 building in the distance to the west.

Since Hirano San said that this person violated the rules and someone is taking care of it, it shouldn't be a big deal, right?

Yin Zhu took it for granted.

"Hurry up!" Suddenly, Hirano Shan grabbed Yin Zhu's arm and pulled her directly towards her room.

"boom!"

A giant black spider, moving incredibly fast, had somehow climbed to this floor and crashed into it, then began to crawl up amidst the shards of glass.

The two had already arrived at the door. Without lingering, they swiped their cards, entered the house, and closed the door in one smooth motion.

At this moment, the black "giant spider" also shed the fragments on its body. Looking around, it realized that the two women who had been staring at it on this floor were gone. The entire corridor was empty except for the glass wall on this side, which it had smashed to pieces.

The stick insect man began to wander the entire corridor, hoping to wait for someone unaware of the situation to leave.

Before entering the room, Yin Zhu recognized him at first glance as the stick insect with the ferocious laugh. Upon entering, he immediately sent a message to the DE08 building's group chat using the Benevolent Spirit Official:

"Someone broke a window on the sixth floor, don't go out."

Considering that the news wasn't sensational enough, Yin Zhu started to build a skyscraper out of thin air, conducting a "how rumors are born" discussion: "That person who caused such a ruckus on the sixth floor is very likely a member of the resistance organization."

As people in the group started typing question marks, the group admin chimed in: "I've already called the police. It seems someone had already called the police beforehand?"

“Yes, I signed up.” Hirano San’s voice popped up in the group chat.
