The complete performance truly surprised Yin Zhu, who even raised her hands in a daze and clapped them in front of the mirror: "You acted quite well."
Unsurprisingly, Yin Zhu in the normal mirror also made the same move.
So what is it trying to do?
Would you really give yourself a short film to watch for free?
Thinking of this, Yin Zhu couldn't help but sigh: There are still more good people in the world. Even if some people have died and become ghosts, they still know how to work hard to act and please the audience. Isn't that much better than many pretty boys in China who can't do anything right all day?
Nothing particularly noteworthy happened after that, until Yin Zhu finished playing inside, went out for dinner, and returned, at which point something new occurred.
To be precise, this matter was specially provided by Yin Zhu.
The other chosen ones either went out to look for work or researched new places to live, and none of them encountered this incident.
Among the many chosen ones, the one who made the fastest progress was Mike from the Sloth Kingdom. He followed a native, and after confirming that the person had a place to live, he killed the person, stole the house, and moved directly from the temporary apartment to his new home.
Sin City did not punish him for his actions.
It seems to be just as the initial rules stated:
9. This is a city full of freedom, though it has no heroes.
You can do anything in Sin City; even crimes committed in ordinary countries won't be punished here.
This is a paradise for criminals, and for a serial killer like Mike who should have been imprisoned for a hundred years, it is the perfect environment. There will be no "meddlesome" police officers who will keep pressing the clues, no dutiful detectives to arrest him, and no official authorities to put him in jail and deprive him of his freedom.
Back on Earth, Mike had envied the laws of the Old World, which not only abolished the death penalty but also built comfortable prisons for criminals to enjoy themselves—or rather, repent. Unlike his country, which, although it had taken the lead in abolishing the death penalty, had prison conditions far worse than those of the Old World nations.
In Mike's eyes, the only drawback of the comfortable prisons in the Old World was that the prisoners had to hide their evil nature and pretend to be good people.
Vice City, on the other hand, doesn't need to consider this at all; there are no rules here!
As long as he doesn't offend those terrifying beings, he can hunt down the natives to his heart's content, amass enough wealth, and live freely even if he exposes his true nature.
[0. Sin City has no rules; you'll like it here.]
Mike absolutely loves this world!
If he had a choice, he wouldn't want to go back to Earth. Mike thought this quite naturally as he stared at a beautiful woman passing by outside the window.
There is no doubt that he did not notice the problems with the new home.
For example, the eye looking at him from inside the cabinet.
...
That said, Yin Zhu was lying in her room digesting her food after dinner when she noticed that the lights were acting strangely again.
"I hope the light in my room wasn't ruined by that weird thing in the mirror?" Yin Zhu had just muttered to herself when she heard a knock on the door.
"Hello, I'm a waiter here. Did you report a light problem to the property management?"
Yin Zhu glanced at the indoor light fixture, which was now flashing even more ridiculously, and answered as she walked towards the restroom: "No, you've gone to the wrong place, it's probably next door."
When I got to the bathroom, the mirror was still perfectly normal.
Suddenly, Yin Zhu's pupils contracted as she saw the bandaged, black-robed figure again, this time seemingly approaching her slowly from behind.
Yin Zhu behaves exactly the same both in and out of the mirror.
Then, Yin Zhu began to show a panicked expression, waving her arms at the mirror and even hitting it. The panicked Yin Zhu in the mirror seemed to gradually transform into the version of herself who had been gazing at the mirror with interest earlier.
The next second, Yin Zhu felt as if something was choking her throat, and the air seemed to thin out.
She closed her eyes.
Helpless, desperate.
None of it appeared on Yin Zhu's face.
Because she finally couldn't keep up the act anymore, even her closed eyes couldn't hide her laughter, and the corners of her eyes and mouth turned into three little crescents. Her faint "hahaha" sounded a bit like "goose goose goose" because her throat was being choked.
The hand no longer had the strength to continue pinching; the force quickly vanished into thin air.
Yin Zhu stopped hiding her laughter altogether and burst into laughter, clutching her stomach, amidst the knocking on the door: "Hahahahahaha—" The knocking seemed to be provoked and became even louder, but it had no effect on Yin Zhu.
She was still basking in the joy of having played a prank on the mirror spirit.
After a long while, when the knocking stopped, Yin Zhu finally stopped laughing, straightened up and looked at the mirror, which had returned to normal, with a straight face: "See? My acting skills are no worse than yours."
"You must have felt really good just now, thinking that the psychological suggestion worked well for me, right? Including that hand suggestion, it was pretty good too, like a dream, as if someone really was choking me." Yin Zhu looked at the red mark on her neck in the mirror, reached out her palm and rubbed it a few times, trying to make it disappear as soon as possible.
This is similar to classic hypnosis cases where the body sometimes exhibits a corresponding reaction when the brain is deceived.
The most widely circulated experiment on Earth is the "coin burn experiment." Participants are clearly informed beforehand that they will be tested with a red-hot coin. During the experiment, the hot coin is pressed hard against the participant's arm and then removed. It is found that all volunteers have a noticeable coin-sized burn wound on their arms.
